Babies' Secret: My Ex Wants Me Back!
Chapter 51: Don’t call her that!

Chapter 51: Don’t call her that!

Chapter 51

There was one thing humans should never shrug off or brush off—that’s the gut feeling!

Exactly, the gut feeling is never wrong. Just follow it.

So why gut feeling? Since yesterday, when the nanny called Katherine that the kids weren’t back from school, she brushed it off, telling the nanny maybe Aaron had picked them up from school—the first instance.

When she got home last night and noticed the apartment was silent, she thought maybe the kids and Aaron were still together—second instance. She didn’t know whether she was stupid or foolish. How could Aaron and the kids be together and he didn’t call or inform her? Or where would the kids sleep if they stayed overnight with Aaron? But her mind didn’t think of that.

She thought she forgot—or it skipped her mind. So foolish.

Now her gut feeling was giving her a snarky comment—"You see?"

Katherine wanted to pull her hair. She didn’t know what to feel or what was going on. It was like since yesterday, there was a void in her mind and head that she couldn’t worry about her children, and here she was listening to the school’s nonsense—that the twins were picked up by a family friend.

Family friend her ass!

Katherine could only think of one thing: ask Aaron. And Aaron’s response nearly made her crazy. Yes, they weren’t with him. "I told you I’m meeting a friend."

Yes, Aaron told her—and she forgot.

Her incompetence.

After dropping her phone, she didn’t think twice before running to the school, her hair disheveled, her heart pounding frantically as her eyes darted around like a crazy woman.

She saw the teacher at the door and grabbed Ms. Wumi by the hand. "Explain to me clearly. When did I ask someone to pick my kids up?" she asked, her voice shaky as her hands were cold.

"Ma’am, yesterday the lady brought a note with your signature—"

"Signature my ass!" Katherine yelled, staring at Ms. Wumi who looked visibly shocked. "When did I ever have someone pick my children up?" she said. Other people, noticing the commotion, stared at the two of them before the headmaster walked to her and gently told her to take it to her office.

Katherine followed the headmaster, yet her eyes frantically looked inside the classroom—maybe her children were among them and the school was playing pranks on her.

"Ma’am, please sit," the headmaster offered as soon as they arrived at her office, but Katherine didn’t budge as she tapped her feet anxiously.

"I’m not here to sit. Where are my kids?" she took out her phone to call the nearest station when the door was yanked open—not dramatic like the last time she was here.

Aaron, looking disheveled—his hair messy, strands sticking out, shirt worn inside out and messy, one side tucked in and the other side out. His feet were covered with bathroom flip-flops.

Katherine, seeing Aaron, ran to him, tears spilling from her eyes as she grabbed the front of his shirt. "You didn’t take them, right?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Aaron felt his heart pull. He grabbed the hand clutching the front of his shirt. "I didn’t. If I did, I would have let you know."

Katherine looked at Aaron like all hope was gone as she took a step back before falling to her knees. "My children—our children—are gone. I’ve not seen them since yesterday," she cried, her body shaking with tears. "T-They said someone picked them up," she sniffled as Aaron crouched to her level and pulled her into a hug.

"I’m going to find them," he said with conviction. After noticing Katherine had calmed a little, he gingerly picked her up and placed her on the sofa gently. He caressed her puffy face adoringly, then turned to the headmaster and teacher who squeaked.

"So, will you explain how my kids were taken under your watch?" he smiled—but the smile was frightening.

"A lady came," the headmaster said, quickly scattering the folder on her table, then took a piece and passed it to Aaron.

Aaron stared at the piece of paper with a somehow Katherine-like signature. "You’re telling me with just this piece of paper that can be forged, you gave my children out?" he bit out, then turned to Raymond who was standing at the doorway.

"Bring out the CCTV camera." Raymond said, and the headmaster and teacher looked at each other.

"We’re sorry, we can’t—"

"You can’t what?" Aaron sharply turned, his hands slammed on the table, which squeaked, causing the lady who spoke to shake in fear.

Raymond took out his ID and flashed it to the women to show them he was a security agent. When the footage was brought, they watched the interaction of the twins with the woman and how she took them to the garage. How she actually chloroformed the children and put them in the car.

Aaron ground his teeth in anger. If he caught this person that did this to his children, the person wouldn’t live to tell the tale as he clenched his hands.

Raymond squinted his eyes, zoomed the garage scene, then paused when the car was large. He pointed to the plate number. "That’s it!"

"That’s what?!" Katherine, who had been sitting quietly, asked.

"Oh, I’m sorry," Raymond apologized. "Let me quickly analyze the number." he said.

Aaron went to sit beside Katherine, rubbing her shoulders reassuringly as they waited for Raymond to trace the plate number. He wouldn’t forgive whoever was behind this.

After some minutes, Raymond clapped his hands. "I’ve gotten a lead. It’s from Federal City."

Katherine’s heart thumped in fear when she heard the city, her mind going spiral—but she didn’t want to believe it.

Aaron could see the fear flash in Katherine’s eyes and gently rubbed her hands together. "Let me take you home," he murmured, his gaze and eyes gentle.

"What about our children?"

"I’ll bring them, I promise," he said, raising their joined hands to his lips and placing a kiss on it.

Sad to do, Aaron called Mathew to pick Katherine up as he waited for Raymond to give him more details.

"So the car stopped at XXX and boarded a plane to Federal City. After Federal City, it took a cab to XXX cafe and—" Raymond paused when his phone dinged with a notification, and he checked a picture.

Raymond had received information from his people.

"And?" Aaron urged him to continue.

"And your mom—"

"My mom?" Aaron asked as he gritted his teeth in anger. He didn’t want his kids to have anything to do with her for now. How the heck did she know? She took his children without permission.

He took his phone and scrolled to his mother’s contact, calling her.

The first ring, she didn’t pick. Aaron rubbed his hand through his hair as he saw the call had been diverted to a video call.

"Where are my children?" he asked—no greeting, no pleasantries—only to see Brenda chuckle, yet her eyes glinted.

"My son, is that why you didn’t greet your mother?" she said. "I know that girl has poisoned your mind again," she muttered, then passed the phone to the kids.

Aaron saw the twins. They were sitting with snacks served on the table, Jasmine sipping juice. Jasmine, seeing who was on the screen, grinned cheekily. "Uncle Piano!" she waved her hand while Hanith smiled with his eyes, looking happy to see him.

Aaron sighed in relief, his tense shoulders slumping, but he glared at Brenda. His voice hardened. "How could you?" Aaron bit out in anger.

Brenda’s lips curled up. "I had to see them for myself. I deserved to know the truth."

Aaron’s hand trembled as he gripped the phone tighter. "You don’t get to decide that, Mom. You don’t get to take them behind our backs."

"You were hiding them from me?" she asked in a bitter tone. "I’m their grandmother."

"And I’m their father. You lost that right six years ago when you chased her out!" he snapped, his russet eyes blazing with anger.

Brenda scoffed, her lips in a thin line. "What about you?" she asked rhetorically, and Aaron flinched. "I just want you to know that I won’t let that bitch raise my grandchildren."

"Don’t call her that. You don’t—" Aaron wasn’t able to finish his sentence before Brenda hung up.

Aaron slammed his phone and ground his teeth in anger, then turned to Raymond. "We are going to Federal City now."
