Chapter 41: He’s mine

Chapter 41

Amanda couldn’t calm down, not after what she’d heard days ago. Her head was banging and her heart racing every second she thought about it.

Aaron... the twins... Katherine.

That bitch!

She couldn’t wait for Brenda to do something. She didn’t have the patience. She didn’t know whether Brenda’s action would be quick or not. She too must do something. She couldn’t just sit here forever and wait till Aaron completely slipped away from her.

That’s impossible.

Amanda picked herself up and headed straight for Katherine’s office. She needed to talk sense to Katherine and tell her to fuck off to where she came from. Her heels clicked aggressively against the grand floor.

When she got to Katherine’s office, she knocked out of formality before entering without waiting for permission.

Katherine raised her head from her laptop, shocked to see Amanda in her office. She could sense trouble from Amanda and smiled tight-lipped at her.

"I just want to talk," Amanda said sweetly—too sweetly—her voice coated with fake innocence, just like her face.

Katherine hesitated but still nodded. "Alright." She moved slightly from her seat and folded her arms. "Talk," she muttered, her index finger tapping her arm.

Amanda strutted in like she owned the place. Her eyes scanned the office as she clicked her tongue in disgust, and her fingers trailed across the edge of Katherine’s desk like she was inspecting for dust. Then she finally turned around to face Katherine, her eyes glowered.

"I know they’re his," she said slowly, tilting her head as her eyes pierced into Katherine’s. She wasn’t sure yet, but she wanted to gauge Katherine’s reaction—maybe she’d get the answer she wanted.

But Katherine didn’t respond. She simply stood in the middle of the room with her arms crossed, uninterested.

Amanda watched her closely, trying to read even the smallest twitch on her face, hoping for a reaction, yet Katherine’s face was expressionless.

Amanda clicked her tongue annoyingly and continued, "Aren’t you shameless? Ehn?" Her voice raised slightly. "Running after a married man."

Katherine blinked, staring at her emotionlessly as she moved to sit back down. She didn’t have time for this; she wanted to face-palm herself.

Amanda sneered, her eyes burning with anger and jealousy. "Looking for who to become a father for your bastard children," she spat.

And that statement made Katherine’s eyes snap up. Her jaw clenched as she glared at Amanda.

Amanda smirked like she’d gotten to her. "I heard you and that blond guy talking." She rolled her eyes. "At least that one is always there for you, right? So why are you running after my husband?"

Katherine pressed her palm to her temple, already feeling the headache building up. This was exactly why she didn’t want to entertain the intruder that walked into her office. She should have trusted her instincts and sent Amanda away.

Amanda leaned forward on the desk, her voice low, "Either you disappear or I make sure everyone knows you’re a manipulative little liar."

Katherine kept her calm, her eyes narrowing as Amanda leaned even closer.

"He’s mine, Katherine. Mine. You? You just popped out some kids."

Katherine finally let out a long sigh and rubbed the bridge of her nose. "He is yours, as you said. And married to you—congratulations," she replied flatly. "So why are you here fighting me? You should hold your husband tightly because he’s the one escaping."

Amanda’s face darkened. "You!" she snapped, pointing a finger at Katherine. "You better stay away from him or else—"

"Or else what?" Katherine rose from her seat, grabbing Amanda’s pointed finger with an iron grip. Amanda gasped, trying to yank her hand away, but it didn’t budge.

Katherine raised a brow challengingly. "Say it. What will you do?"

Amanda gritted her teeth and yanked her hand back as Katherine finally let go. She held her aching finger to her side, throwing one last glare before stomping out the door.

The moment Amanda left, Katherine let out a deep breath—the one she didn’t even realize she’d been holding. Her body trembled slightly as she slumped back into her chair. Her heart was thudding loudly, and she could hear it in her head. She rubbed her arms to calm the chill on her skin.

But before she could fully gather herself, the door opened again. Her body jerked up in alarm.

"What do you want again?" she snapped, thinking Amanda was back. She raised her head to see Mathew duck his head in.

"Oh, it’s you," she exhaled, relieved, as she dropped her head into her hands for a second.

Mathew tilted his head, stepping into the room. "What’s up, Katty?" His boyish charming face was marred with concern immediately.

Katherine gave a tired smile. "I’m good, thank you."

"I just saw Mrs. Knight stomping off on my way here..." he trailed, walking closer, eyes scanning her face.

"Don’t mind her." She waved her hand dismissively. "She just came here to talk," she said.

"Okay," he said in a low voice, but he wasn’t convinced as his brow furrowed worriedly. "Are you sure you’re okay?"

Katherine nodded again. "I’m okay, thank you." Then her lips twitched as she looked at him expectantly. "So—" she trailed off.

"So what?" Mathew asked suspiciously.

"You and Amelia." Her tone was light, teasing, eyebrows wiggling playfully.

Mathew’s face immediately shifted. "No, Katherine. Nothing. Absolutely nothing," he said too fast, waving his hands. "I just helped her, that’s all. Don’t go cooking up any wild thoughts in your head."

Katherine chuckled, resting her chin on her hand. "I didn’t say anything o."

"I know you," he groaned. "Your silence is already loud. You’re already picturing ten things that didn’t even happen."

She laughed harder this time, her earlier confrontation with Amanda slowly easing out of her chest.

Mathew smiled too, though his eyes kept flicking back to her face, still not completely satisfied with her "I’m fine."

But for now, he’d let it go.

They both stayed like that for a moment, letting the laughter fill the room, clearing the bad taste of Amanda’s presence.
