Chapter 32: My woman and children

Chapter 32

Aaron stretched his arms above his head tiredly and leaned back into the lounge chair, groaning slightly as the pressure eased off his neck. He had spent the entire morning reviewing pending contracts his PA had sent him. He needed to go back to work. He knew his PA was capable, but the pressing matter with Katherine was still holding him back.

He sighed. He needed a break from staring at the screen too much before his eyes started to sting. He took his phone out to check a new SMS from his PA and grunted. This man didn’t want him to rest at all.

He closed his eyes, caressed his eyeballs, letting his head fall back on the chair rim. He just needed some minutes. Then something blurred past the lounge doorway.

Fast.

He sat up straight immediately. The silhouette looked familiar. He tilted his head, frowning.

Katherine?

Her hair was in a messy bun as she walked faster, her shoulders tense with a furrowed brow, and she clutched her phone like her life depended on it.

What’s wrong? Aaron’s body moved before his mind caught up. He stood quickly, slipping his phone into his pocket and followed her immediately.

He knew his PA wouldn’t let him hear the rest of this for ditching work on him again—but Katherine.

Whatever it was—whatever had her rushing like that—he wasn’t going to sit back and wonder. Not with that look on her face.

.

The headmaster’s office door was slightly ajar when he arrived. The moment he stopped at the door, the atmosphere was tense with two angry parents.

Katherine stood at the far end of the room, her back partly turned, her posture tense yet she stood defiantly with her head up in front of her twins. Jasmine and Hanith sat quietly in two chairs—Hanith’s shoulders were hunched as if he wanted to hide himself, while Jasmine’s eyes shone unapologetically.

A loud, arrogant voice filled the room. "—And what exactly can you do?!" The woman’s voice was loud, sarcastic, her finger jabbing aggressively in Katherine’s chest.

Aaron’s jaw clenched at the blatant assault and disrespect. He walked in. "Are you talking about my family?" His voice was cold, carrying a command that made all heads turn to him.

"Daddy!" Jasmine shouted excitedly, squealing as her eyes lit up and she practically jumped from her seat and ran to Aaron. Aaron picked her up with no effort.

"My princess," he smiled softly, caressing her red face.

"Daddy," Hanith smiled, a proud relief in his voice.

The room dropped silent at the kids’ proclamation.

Their father?

The headmaster was shocked, shifting in her seat, while Ms. Tina blinked—the last time she checked, the kids didn’t have a father. Tyler’s mom stopped mid-rant, staring at the new man that came in.

Her lips parted in surprise. The man who walked in was tall, composed, and the air around Aaron carried weight—like he commanded attention. The resemblance, especially to the son, was uncanny.

He was their real father.

Tyler’s mother was stunned. She hadn’t expected someone so different to show up. Her expression altered as her mouth twitched, yet lifted into a defensive stance.

She couldn’t back down now. She wanted an apology from the woman and her children.

Katherine turned, blinking—unsure if he was really the one. But with Jasmine in his arms, her eyes widened with surprise and relief. She didn’t know how he found them—but God, she was so glad he was here. She felt the tension loosen from her chest because he was there now. She swallowed hard, feeling a lump in her throat as the corner of her eyes glistened with tears.

She felt so relieved by his presence.

Aaron wanted nothing more than to hug her right there and reassure her he’d take care of everything—but before that, he had to deal with the nasty woman.

How dare she?

Aaron’s gaze moved back to the woman, who still had her finger on Katherine. Aaron removed her finger. His voice lowered an octave.

"You were saying?" He was expressionless as he raised a brow, challenging.

He reached into his blazer pocket, pulled out a handkerchief, and wiped his palms slowly—methodically—like he had just touched something dirty. Then he dropped the used handkerchief on the ground —discarding it like nothing.

The woman’s expression twisted in anger. The man was treating her like dust.

"You’re the father?" she asked skeptically, even though it was painfully obvious to everyone in the room. Tyler’s mom gritted her teeth in anger and humiliation as the man didn’t respond.

"Your daughter assaulted my son!" she barked, trying to compose herself after earlier humiliation. "This is a serious matter—she used a pencil to strike him! I want disciplinary action—now!"

Aaron blinked slowly, quite shocked at the incident. A proud smile made its way to his lips as he looked down at Jasmine, who turned her head away, and at Hanith, who clung to his leg.

Then he turned to the woman. His voice dropped lower. "My daughter stood up for her brother." He looked the woman dead in the eye. "If your son knew how to speak without insulting people, maybe he wouldn’t get hit with pencils." He shrugged.

The woman gasped like she’d been slapped. "You don’t even know what happened!"

Aaron didn’t have to know what happened. He could put one and two together. From the way Jasmine clenched her fists and how Hanith looked roughed up a little, he could guess what happened.

"I don’t even want to know. Because whatever happened—your child deserved it." He took a step forward, and she instinctively backed away. "My sweet daughter wouldn’t have hit your—" Aaron looked over the woman’s shoulder to Tyler, who squeaked fearfully at his gaze—"son if he didn’t do something to warrant it."

Katherine sat on the chair, watching it all unfold with her twins. She twiddled her fingers as her heart beat faster. Her eyes were mostly on Aaron—the way he carried himself, the sound of his voice, the way he defended the kids—made her breath hitch.

Aaron turned slightly to the headmaster and the teacher, who looked like they wanted to be anywhere except this office.

"Was there any damage?" he asked flatly.

"N-No," the teacher stuttered. "No blood. No damaged property or anything."

"Good," Aaron clicked his teeth and turned to Tyler’s mom. "Then this conversation is over."

Her face was red with anger. Her chest heaved. Her shoulders squared. Her voice rose again in defense. "Who agreed that this conversation is over?" she laughed humourlessly. Do you even know who my husband is?!"

Aaron chuckled—a disinterested, mocking chuckle. "I don’t care. But if you’d like, I can have my lawyer call you instead."

That was it.

That was the moment she visibly shifted. Her mouth opened, then closed again. Her whole façade crumbled and she fell back onto the couch.

The headmaster, trying to mediate, cleared her throat.

"Twins’ daddy... I believe we can handle this internally. There’s no need to escalate further. The children are fine, and we can—" her voice was shaking.

"Escalate?" he scoffed. He didn’t look at her as he crouched instead and pulled both twins closer.

"Then you shouldn’t have stayed still when my woman and children were being talked down to," he said.

"You okay?" he asked quietly.

Jasmine nodded and immediately leaned into his side, holding onto his shirt as Hanith clutched his other hand tightly.

Aaron stood with each arm wrapped around them, turned to leave but stopped and looked at Tyler’s mom.

"And one last thing," he said, his voice lower now, heavier. "I suggest you keep your son away from mine. If anything like this happens again, we won’t be having this conversation in a school office."

As they walked out of the office, Katherine’s heart continued to pound diligently. Aaron had called her his woman —that was all what ringing in her ears. And she felt her neck getting hot.

Maybe her body was reacting to the hot weather.

Maybe, though.
