Awakening to a Special-Grade Explorer -
Vol. 4 - Ch. 208 - A glimmer of hope
The condensed thunder cloud spinned and fired like a laser.
"Gruuu!?"
The monster instinct kicked in, warning it of the attack it mustn't face directly, and hurriedly tried to escape sideways. But his attempt was stopped by a thunder cloud, transformed into a wall, restricting the monster's movement. Even more thunder cloud walls appeared in the right, left, or back side of the monster, completely fixing it in one spot.
At the same time, a figure donning red-wine armour abruptly appeared right behind the monster.
"Why am I always relegated to this boring task? It's really freaking mad to be stuck with a shield role."
Jay murmured out his complaint while sealing the monster's movement from behind, who had been flustered and looking for a chance to escape. Monster tried to turn around, however it suddenly noticed its body was no longer moving according to its will.
"Grruuuu!?"
"Don't bother, this is the effect of my bloody sand range's extra skill which activates when there's zero distance between me and the target. Fret not, I'm currently invincible, so let's head for the underworld together."
The words had just poured into the monster's ear when everything around it was painted in red.
"Oh, I just remembered. I never said that I can only use this skill in defence, right? Haha, you see, 'attention' is the hidden clause for my ability."
"Grruuu......"
Jay had purposely set his teleportation destination to be within the range of attack. Typically, his ability was something he could only use for defence, but he had managed to turn it into one of his attacks.
And soon, the fusion attack of Leon's full-powered spiral and Aubraka's thunder cloud swallowed the monster instantly.
The fusion attack unfurled the moment it touched the monster's skin and soon, white fumes started rising from monster and Jay.
"Grrrruuuu!?!?"
The monster released an anguished howl, feeling a scorching sensation asssiling right at its core. It was especially more unbearable after being pushed into a weakened state, having tanked the attack of Ibuki Douji and Ootakemaru. The might their attack harboured within itself might be that last straw that broke camel's back.
Maybe, this outcome was to be expected from the combination of zero-grade explorers.
"A-Amazing......what an incredible burst."
An unwitting voice echoed into the battleground.
Each and all the explorers were left awestruck by the unbridled might. There were some who had been thinking of joining fray in help should the need arise, but it took them only a moment to realise there was no place for mere explorers like them to support them.
They could have proved to be a valuable force, should there be one single zero-grade explorer. However, they could only end as mere onlookers when there's the three of them.
The more they saw them in action, the more they felt their insignificance.
Overwhelming technique, absolute practicality of abilities and the incredible combination makes them unconsciously gasp.
"So this is the might of a zero-grade explorer. Nope, I don't think I can ever reach that."
"There's just too much disparity between us."
"But with this, maybe we can win!"
Everyone shared the same thought. This incomparable firepower might truly put down the weakened monster for eternity. The explosion settled down and just as silence had once again made its way to the battlefield---
"Grruuuuuuuu!!"
That irksome voice resounded yet again.
The bodies of explorers standing there shook in tremor. Was there no end to that monster? Everyone collectively thought.
However, before they could be completely overtaken by despair, a gleam of hope suddenly appeared within them. ---The monster stood there at what was the epicentre of the explosion, its body beyond recognisable. A good half of its body was already carbonised, turning pitch black like coal. The rest of the body was in a completely tattered state. It was apparent the monster's healing power was running slow to even recover muscles completely.
At last, that tenacious monster had its one foot finally in death's door.
"We can win!!"
"Finish it!"
"Everyone, let's give it the final strike!"
The explorers who thought they would remain onlookers grasped their weapon and stood resolutely at the given chance. They wouldn't stop until they at least deliver an attack to that wretched monster---with that determination, they willed their shaken footsteps to move.
Meanwhile, the monster, as if perceiving the change in momentum, released another last ditch howl.
"Grrrruuuuuuuuu."
But before anything could happen, Monster's body was suddenly entwined with a radiance.
No, it required some correction actually. The radiance wasn't the precursor to the monster activating its technique.
In contrast, it---a cord of light was instead acting to bind its body, snatching its freedom.
Immediately after, the surrounding was filled with floral scent.
"Say, you beast. What was your purpose in the end?"
A tiny, shrivelled hand of a human appeared out of the monster's chest, piercing through it. Undoubtedly, that shrivelled hand targeted the monster's vitals. The hand appeared bare bone, with wrinkly skin, but as an aura of light covered it, only a foolish person would dare underestimate the damage it could inflict.
"Grrrrr."
"I guess you're just like me, someone who left behind in the next era."
For an incomprehensible reason, the monster silently listened to those words without flailing its limbs. A copious amount of blood spilled out its mouth in the stream, showing no sign of ever stopping.
Yet, as the monster showed no sign of rotting away, Limey further murmured in a faint voice.
"We both have rough, huh. But let's end this fate today. ---<Ursula=End>!"
The temperature of Limey's hand jumped up in the twinkle of an eye, followed with the intensification of light aura, presumably to burn the monster's body completely from inside. At the same time, black, muddy stream something started spilling out from all over the monster's body. It was as if Limey was purifying its existence.
As the time passed, the monster's movement started to become dull. Finally, the will to live harbouring in its eyes showed sign of dispersing.
"............Hu......rt...'naw mure pewn......" (no more pain.)
Drip
A tear slid down from the eye of the monster.
“I will never forgive you. It’s because of you I can no longer feel my legs!
"............Hu......rt...'naw mure pewn......"
"Give---"
'Give up,' Limey wanted to say this when the monster's body suddenly turned liquid and started to drip down. It wasn't that the monster's body was melting from the purification, it's body literally had become liquid.
Leon, who was overlooking the scene, turned toward all the explorers present and shouted in an enraged voice never heard before.
"Don't let it escapeeeeeeee! Find out each speck of that bastard!!!"
The explorers, who had looked at all this happened, felt their body trembling when facing the unexpected situation and Leon's howl, and quickly took their battle stance, preparing for whatever was about to come.
Then Leon turned his sharp gaze toward Tenji and said,
"Tenji! Use your power at full force. Don't hold back! I will take care of everything. "
Leon had just done shouting his command when the situation took a turn.
Monster's body escaped, or more like slipped out of Limey's light cord by virtue of its viscous liquid like shape it had turned into. It fell into the ground and splashed all over, the fragment of its body creating a puddle of water. Then the puddle showed signs of stirring.
"Raaaaaa."
"Riiiiiiiiiii."
"Ruuuuu."
Soon, those pubbled started to take a form and turned into deformed size white monster. Their number surpassed 500 easily. The next moment, they started to run in every possible direction.
Flustered, explorers swiftly make their teams and as Leon had instructed, chased after those monsters. They finally could take down those smaller versions, but in reverse, their numbers were too much to quickly sort them out.
On the other side, two shadows appeared beside Tenji, someone he trusted even more than his life.
"Leon-san is right, there's no time to hold back. It will be fine, amn't I your ally? I will always be by your side no matter what others have to say."
"Fuyuki-kun......"
"He's right. Besides, isn't it set that a master is a disciple's support forever? I'm your master. I will have your back always. That's why, go all out, my disciple!"
"Chisato-chan......understood."
Fuyuki and Chisato take turns to encourage Tenji, who was having apprehension about it. It was their support that Tenji nodded strongly, despite about to fall down at any moment and summoned the Book of Enma, releasing the true power of his calling.
"All Hell Gate---Release."
Following his motion, Purple and azure hell gate started appearing out of ground, almost covering the whole dungeon. The gate opened and from there, an endless number of hell beasts, the resident of hell bearing the appearance of demon---Flame Demon, Snow Demon, Goblins etc stepped into the present world.
"Flame Demon, Snow Demon."
Tenji called out to two familiar demons with his blurry gaze.
Hearing his words, the two demons, warden of hell, immediately showed themselves before Tenji and knelt down, seemingly offering their greeting to their king.
"Clear out every single monster. It's an order."
" "Understood." "
"Also, no need to be secretive in action. Just go all out."
Receiving their king's order, the swarm of hell beasts immediately dispersed around.
