Awakening to a Special-Grade Explorer -
Vol. 4 - Ch. 199
Tenji strided toward the centre of the battlefield unobstructed.
With the hellfire acting as a veil of separation, their hand would simply be swallowed by the hellfire should they try to reach out to him. Chasing after him was another futile idea, unless they want to turn cinder. Furthermore, they had the hunch they shouldn't call him out for some reason.
There was no basis behind that, except just call it their intuition.
And yet, that student seemed more suited to this place than anyone else here.
Tenji boldly walked toward the centre of the battlefield, with each step he took, a path without flames was built for the king to pass. In a moment, Tenji was at the centre of that infernal torturous ground.
"Kid, there's something I need to tell first."
"Hmm, what is it, Ibuki Douji?"
Ibuki Douji's tone was a bit stiff as he continued.
"There's not much time left for me. The longer I remain in the present world, the more exponentially the debt of compensation would increase for you. There are only five minutes left before it would be beyond your upper limit of endurance. Do you understand what I mean?"
"I know. I was already prepared the moment I invoked that."
Although he say that, Tenji couldn't hide his nervousness as he audibly gulped.
Ibuki Douji, who sensed Tenji's feeling, switched his gaze back to the monster again.
The monster's chunk of flesh and bits were squirming their way toward one place to reform the body again.
"I guess it's time to match the output to its regeneration speed. Heh, even as the king of the present era, it shouldn't be able to do anything once it gets on the gate. ---<O' Flames of Purgatory>!"
Ibuki Douji followed with another blast of hellfire at the monster so easily as if he was merely handing out the second serving of food.
A preposterous size of flame slammed into the monster with a loud booom!, which once again blasted away the monster's bit of flesh in all directions. The monster didn't even have any voice organs left in that blast, yet his anguish filled howl somehow echoed in the battlefield.
Watching this bizarre scene, Ibuki Douji spoke again.
"It was still a newborn king who had yet to expand its horizon. But it has somehow managed to put its hand on the door beyond after continuously eating my hellfire. I couldn't clearly make out the situation but it seemed to have opened a slight crack on that door. It's almost as if it is resonating to it's stubborn will to survive."
Perhaps out of slight irritation, Ibuki Douji said and took a short pause.
"Ibuki Douji, you always spoke in such a roundabout way. Can you just be clear for once?"
Tenji asked in an exasperated tone against that Ibuki Douji. While Inuki Douji wasn't exactly using archaic phrasing, his habit was getting the better out of him. It's almost like he was allergic to speak clearly, or bluntly for the sake of words.
Ibuki Douji than spoke while pondering something.
"It's impossible to kill it within the remaining time. I could have achieved it if I unleashed my full strength here, but then your body would crumble away. In short, it's impossible to put it through the gate of hell with just the strength of one horn."
Tenji had a faint inkling this might be the situation. He had felt Ibuki Douji's slight impatience vividly even before coming here. Though that inkling turned into a fact after he saw the situation here.
The monster showed no sign of yielding no matter how many times it was given the baptism of hellfire as it just kept regenerating endlessly.
This was an odd sight in itself. This hellfire was designed to inflict unimaginable agony throughout one's whole body from just a fingertip's touch. It was an endlessly propogating torture for eternity, a mere expression of 'it's akin to swallowing thousand pins for breaking the promise' couldn't even begin to describe even a fraction of it.
Yet, the monster continued to regenerate itself. Was it because of its obsession to live, or simply the survival instinct? There was no correct answer availbale but the fact remains that it was still alive after facing the torture.
It was at that moment Ibuki Douji suddenly flashed a bold grin and switched his gaze to Tenji. His eyes were reflecting his endless ferver and thrill that he was feeling.
"However there's one way to push that in a checkmate situation. As long as we can achieve that, even a small fry like you can slaughter it wantonly. And it's to grow another horn. But the price you will have to pay for it is the anguish beyond death as compensation. Kid......want to hop on my suggestion---oh, it seemed it was boorish of me to ask the obvious."
Ibuki Douji showed his most ferocious grin yet.
At the end of his gaze was the future king, calmly raising the corner of his mouth to say 'why ask the obvious?'. He properly understood his king's resolve right there, that he would see it to the end.
"But of course, Ibuki Douji. In for a penny, in for a pound, no?"
"Kukukuku...... bravado is just as important indeed."
"Oh please, at least call it my courage."
Ibuki Douji snorted at Tenji's display of bravado.
"Then I shall answer that 'courage' of yours. I'll make you grow a second horn."
