Vol. 4 - Ch. 165 - A Faltering Start

Honnou put his forefoot forward, stepping on the ground with a force. Then, he swung his arm---from where the lava was unceasingly flowing out---towards the white monster in distance.

As the smell of burnt air dominated the atmosphere, the lava coiling around Honnou's arm suddenly took the shape of a bowling ball-sized sphere. Honnou put all his strength in his hand and pitched that forward.

The magma ball traversed the space with a faster-than-eye-could-perceive speed while leaving behind a trail of burnt air.

(Incredible, so this is the might of Honnou Itagaki!? This display of strength...I still don't have any skill to produce firepower of that range. No, not just him. Rest of the preemptive attack unit just as well---)

Just as Tenji had keenly felt what it took to be the first grade explorer from up close, all sorts of long-range attacks came flying toward white monster from every possible direction. The all-out, concurrent offensive encompasses all sorts of elements from each direction.

It wasn't just Honnou. All the members of the preemptive attack unit immediately launched their strongest long-range attack at the cue.

"Rrrr......"

However the monster didn't show even the slightest movement.

There's no way these attacks were in its blind zone. The attacks of all sorts were indisputably akin to that grand actor of the moment that you would consciously or subconsciously never miss out in this dimly lit space.

However that monster remained standstill, never once breaking its eye contact with the waning gibbous moon in the sky---like the philosopher entranced by its sublime charm.

Nary an attack missed as they struck the monster squares.

Boom Boom*...echoed the falling thunder like sound as the aftermath of attacks sent forth shock waves in all directions.

The timed attack off the world famous explorers---packed with their whole soul and spirit---splendidly crashed into that guy's body.

Ultimately, the onslaught of attacks—red, green, black, and blue—culminated in a colossal explosion, with the monster's position at its epicentre. Each attack resonated with the next, amplifying their collective power to a new level through a chain sequence of resonance.

---It was the display of skill's multiplication and amalgamation.

Tenji had heard about it, and it wasn't something that could be achieved just by the flip of a hand...or so he had learned in school. It was a technique of transcdental caliber that relies on various element like fellow explorer's timing to their intent to attack affinity etc to mesh together and spark a resonance of an unbelievable level.

He truly had never got a chance to rest his sight upon such spectacle and the fusion of skills akin to a miracle naturally spellbound him. As a matter of fact, the shock waves from the aftermath reached even to his location that was so far. Perhaps, he would never forget this sensation.

(A world from their perspective huh...the very limit that they command...)

He could bet this was a moment as rare as a helio comet, unseen by all but just the few.

The firepower was over-the-top to burn down even a first-grade monster from the earth's surface. And he estimated it would have pushed even the notorious zero-grade monster 'Petrification Witch' to her grave. ---Atleast, that's how strong it was supposed to be.

However all his thoughts come to halt at the sudden voice.

"Ruuu."

It was just one word it uttered, and the aftermath of the raging explosion suddenly vanished. It was as if no one had attacked earlier, as if someone had pushed the reset button.

What should have been their target stood at the centre, where the explosion should have taken place. Its body sparkling clean, without a scar, wound or even a speck of dust, like a newborn it was.

(......No freaking way!?)

Tenji was even wondering if he was hallucinating.

The attack just now had even decimated the black cocoon that was still covering its lower half body. And just like its upper half body, the lower half was similarly a construct of straight lines.

Everyone present there gazed at the bizarre visage of that monster, and had the same thought, "I have never seen a monster like it before."

"It really turned out to be so."

Commander Kujou muttered under her breath.

Tenji and Fuyuki immediately sensed her underlying meaning. She had already expected to see the scene played out like this! She was apparently sure that the attacks wouldn't work on the said monster.

At the same time, something began to appear around that monster. A strange object like the fluff part of dandelion appeared like it was bouncing in the air, releasing a faint light.

The thing had appeared out of the thin air, and in the blink of an eye.

Kujou, who had been observing the monster at the lead, took in a deep breath the instant she noticed them. And after what seemed like an act to fortify her resolve, she calmly ordered.

"It's your turn now. Decimate these underlings."

" " " " " " "Yes, Commander!" " " " " " "

Chariot spared no further moment and started acting on their strategy the moment she uttered command.

Everyone, including Tenji, jumped off the cliff's edge without any hesitation and stepped into that nature driven central depression. Their foremost mission was to 'eradicate the underling.'

They all shuttled through the trees like a streak of lightning and moved in to close off the distance between them and the monster.

Tenji, too, was dashing through the forest alongside them. There was no student, no professional at the moment. All that matter was if they were capable of fighting, and they showed not a bit of hesitation toward Tenji and company just because they were students.---They didn't say it, but their 'we're not going to wait for you if you can't follow up' intention was pretty clear.

They were just crossing the forest when a hazy strip of light ran past them for an instant.
