"The elves sent an army to take Ilaris?" Daniel asked in surprise.

He hadn't expected the elves to act so soon—or even realize anything had happened—but on second thought, it made sense.

It had been about a month, and he was sure the elves had noticed the death of their spy—the elf who had taken Liara's shell.

Still, what really surprised him was that the elves had sent an army to the Central Plains. That could stir up the wrath of all the forces in the region.

"Yeah, it's been three days now. The entire Free Zone of Erin is under siege—except for one entrance, and that one leads straight into the mountains."

"That's why I didn't see any elves on the way here," Daniel nodded.

"So how did you end up at the governor's manor? Where's Ilaris? Is she okay?"

"When the elves surrounded the area, they said they were looking for a Dark Elf. And well, Ilaris is the only Dark Elf here, so it didn't take long for them to detain us."

"But I revealed my identity as a Lionheart, and they let me speak to the governor. Thanks to that, they treated us with respect, and Ilaris is now with the governor, waiting for us," Andreas explained.

"How much of the truth did you tell him?" Daniel asked seriously. If these idiots had spilled everything, it could cause problems.

Though, for him personally, it wouldn't matter much. Ilaris would be hunted no matter what.

"We didn't say much. Ilaris was scared that if she said anything, the humans would arrest and imprison her."

Daniel nodded, and they continued walking.

"So, why the mask?" Andreas suddenly asked along the way.

"For safety."

Andreas nodded in understanding, and after a few more steps, they arrived at the entrance to the governor's office. A few guards were posted there, but upon seeing Andreas, they didn't cause any trouble and allowed them in.

After knocking and receiving permission, they entered the room.

Sitting behind a desk was a middle-aged man with a serious face. Ilaris was sitting on one of the couches in front of the desk, looking nervous and slightly frightened.

The moment she saw Daniel and Andreas enter, she stood up and rushed toward them.

"Thank goodness you're okay." Ilaris almost went in for a hug but stopped, realizing it might be embarrassing.

"Had a good time in the human world?" Daniel asked with a smile.

"Not bad. Honestly, it's a lot better than the mountains," Ilaris replied.

Then Daniel turned his attention to the middle-aged man.

"Greetings, Governor. I'm Alex." He gave a slight respectful bow.

At the mention of the fake name "Alex," Ilaris and Andreas exchanged a strange look. Isn't his name Daniel?

"No need for formalities, young man. We're both from the same world," the middle-aged man said, standing up and walking calmly toward Daniel.

Even though Daniel's face was hidden, the man didn't seem to care. He'd seen many young people who liked to hide their faces for various reasons.

"So you're an Otherworldly too?" Daniel asked quietly. He had somewhat expected it.

After all, this city had too much of his own world's culture. It made sense if its leader was from the same place.

"Haha, that's right. Come, sit down," the governor nodded and gestured for them to take a seat.

"What country are you from, young man?"

"The Republic of Medes."

"Oh? Then our countries are allies. I'm from the Kingdom of Krask."

They spent several minutes making small talk. After getting to know each other a bit, they finally got to the main issue.

"Alex, your friends haven't given me a clear explanation over the past three days about why the elves are after them. And now the elves are putting even more pressure on us. If I don't get a good reason soon, I'll have to hand over the Dark Elf," said Governor Leo.

Daniel didn't answer right away. He first looked at Andreas and Ilaris. Andreas didn't need to worry—he was a Lionheart, and no matter what happened, he'd be protected.

But Ilaris had no background, and on top of that, she was too innocent and naive.

Still, he doubted handing this girl over to the elves would be a good idea. After all, wasn't she in a way a fruit of the World Tree?

Even so, unless the girl agreed herself, he couldn't just hand her over…

"They don't actually care about the Dark Elf. What they really want is what's inside the mountain," Daniel said.

"What's inside the mountain? What do you mean?" Leo frowned.

"You probably don't know, but inside the mountain, there's a tribe of Dark Elves. They fled from the elves decades ago… because they stole a branch of the World Tree."

His words hit Leo like a bomb.

Even Andreas and Ilaris stared at Daniel in shock. They hadn't expected him to actually tell the truth.

Ilaris clenched her fists tightly. If Daniel really told them everything, including her true identity, the entire world would come after her.

Fortunately, it seemed she didn't have to worry...

"You're joking, right? No, do you even realize what that means? We're talking about the World Tree here!" Leo's voice rose with fear and disbelief.

"I didn't know either. But when we were captured by the Dark Elves, we found out. The only reason we're still alive—and managed to escape—is because of Ilaris," Daniel explained with an innocent smile.

At the same time, his explanation not only made sense, but also painted Ilaris as the savior of a descendant of the Lionheart family. That way, even if Leo wanted to, he couldn't hand her over so easily anymore.

More importantly, Daniel wasn't doing this just for Ilaris. In fact, he hadn't planned to reveal the truth at all.

But when he thought more about the situation, he realized it might be better to stir up some chaos… all because of the Death Legacy.

According to the Hero, there was one other person who knew the location of the Legacy—a man who had made the mountain infamous by spreading rumors.

The same man who lured countless powerful experts and caused their deaths, allowing the Pagoda to survive to this day.

Daniel suspected that man would challenge the Pagoda again. And what would happen if he realized the Legacy wasn't there? He would definitely come after Daniel.
