After that, they began heading toward the depths of the mountain range. Daniel had achieved his goal—reaching Rank C—just within the first few hours of entering the mountain.

He had even obtained a Rank B Fallen and one that was a half-step away from Rank B, which were unexpected strokes of luck.

Of course, after killing Nariok, he had naturally gained some EXP as well, but he had forgotten to check the notification.

Naturally, he should have left the mountain by now. But for some reason, he wanted to take a look into its depths before leaving. He also left one of his Fallen near the mountain's exit so that, in case anything went wrong, he could escape using [Fallen Step].

He didn't know why, but his intuition kept pulling him toward the mountain's depths, as if something there was drawing him in.

The path was long, and even with Vorak's speed, it would still take a few hours to reach it. That's why, halfway there, he decided to take a look at Nariok and Velmord's panels.

[ Name: Nariok ]

[ Race: Fallen ]

[ Rank: Grand Fallen ]

[ Power Level: Comparable to a B-level Awakened ]

[ Skills: Decay Curse (A), Shadow Step (A), (B), Blood Reflection (S), and more… ]

[ Stats:

Physical Strength: 39,700

Mental Strength: 35,700

Intelligence: 290

Endurance: 87,900

Mana: 15,500

Loyalty: 100% ]

Some of his stats were on par with Zargort, or slightly weaker. Others were much stronger.

For example, Nariok's mana was nearly twice that of Zargort's. The same was true for his intelligence.

Then Daniel took a look at Nariok's skills. Unlike Zargort, who had only a few, Nariok had many.

He browsed through them, looking to see if there was anything worth copying. Shadow Step was somewhat similar to his own Fallen Step.

The difference was that Shadow Step allowed movement through shadows—a great skill for assassins and spies.

Although such a skill wouldn't be that useful for him, he continued checking the rest of the skills, and two of them caught his eye:

[ Decay Curse (A): Anything touched—whether an object or living being—is cursed and begins to physically and spiritually decay over time. ]

[ Reflective Shadow (S): Use shadows to defend yourself, hide within them, and transform them into shields. ]

"Which one should I pick?" Daniel took a thoughtful stance, genuinely torn between the two.

Both were powerful and had many potential uses—one was destructive, the other defensive.

He looked once more at the rest of the skills to see if there was anything else of interest—and fortunately, there was one more that caught his attention.

[ Shadow Weapons (S): Allows shadows to be used as weapons to attack enemies. ]

After some thought, Daniel decided to pick this one. With it, he could perform hidden attacks and use it as a surprise element in combat.

In PvP fights against enemies close to his own level, this could be very useful.

After that, Daniel shifted his attention to Velmord's panel. Velmord was a half-step away from Rank B, and Daniel had some expectations of him.

Moreover, in their battle, he had shown some impressive skills, and even though he wasn't comparable to Daniel in terms of stats, he had still managed to inflict significant damage on him.

But his panel wasn't that impressive. In fact, it was nearly equal to Azrakh's, with not much difference except that Velmord had more skills.

And he did have some good ones—like Final Breath, the same skill that had nearly killed Daniel.

[ Final Breath (S): When on the brink of death, use your remaining vitality for one last counterattack and hurl a death aura—belonging to the King of Death—at your enemy. The stronger you are, the stronger the aura. ]

This skill was perfect for Daniel. With it, he was certain he could even take down a Rank B if needed.

It was a self-sacrificing skill—a one-time-use ability—because its result was the death of the user.

But for him? He didn't mind dying—he could simply return to life.

He chose the skill without hesitation.

A smile appeared on Daniel's face. Now, he finally had a way to kill and defeat a Rank B without Zargort's help.

Though the skill reminded him that the death aura was still within his spiritual sea. He looked into his sea of spirit and noticed cracks forming on its surface.

"I need to do something about that soon," Daniel sighed. The only solution he could think of was to reach Rank B.

By ranking up, he might be able to neutralize the death aura. Of course, maybe understanding the Law of Death could help, but he had no idea how to do that.

"After leaving the mountain, I'll get ready to challenge the Tower," he decided to stop playing around and prepare to challenge the second floor once he got out.

Conquering the second floor should help him reach Rank B, and that way he could also neutralize the death aura—assuming the rate at which it was destroying his spiritual sea didn't increase.

Normally, most Awakened challenge the second floor of the Tower as soon as they reach Rank D, though it's a foolish thing to do.

Second-generation geniuses challenge the second floor after reaching Rank C, so they can use the Tower's benefits to reach Rank B.

After that, he focused forward again. They were getting close to the entrance of the mountain's depths.

"Master, this is where the Wraiths live," Nariok said respectfully as he followed from behind.

Daniel nodded and looked around. This place was truly abandoned—worse and scarier than any graveyard.

He could feel a strong presence of death aura here, like the air itself was dead. The trees were all dried up, the ground was gray, and scattered skulls could be seen on the ground now and then.

Daniel was fairly sure those were the skulls of people who had entered the mountain to explore, only to meet this fate.

"Wraiths aren't dangerous?" Daniel suddenly asked.

"Most of them are between Rank C and B. The problem is their numbers—if they attack all at once, it'll definitely be trouble," Nariok replied respectfully.

Daniel nodded. In that case, he'd summon the rest of the Fallen too.

"Hm? Damn it—watch out," Daniel suddenly said, sensing something.
