Chapter 113: A Clan Of Undeads

Daniel reacted instantly, grabbing the attacker and slamming it hard into the ground.

"Huh? A skeleton?" His eyebrows raised when he saw the creature was an undead.

Suddenly, the lifeless eyes of the skeleton began to glow, triggering Daniel’s danger instincts. Without wasting time, he ripped the bony head from its neck.

[ You killed an Undead and gained 10 exp. ]

Daniel ignored the notification and looked up, sensing something above him—hundreds of arrows were raining down from the trees.

"What the hell is this now?" Without hesitation, he activated [Royal Barrier].

A shield formed around him, blocking all the arrows and sending a wave of force back equal to the arrows’ impact.

It was a skill Daniel had obtained after conquering the Colosseum Dungeon, though he hadn’t expected to use it in a place like this.

After deflecting the attack, he scanned his surroundings. He was completely surrounded by undead. Even in the trees, small-bodied undead stood holding crossbows aimed at him.

"So that’s what the map meant with the skull symbol, huh?" Daniel didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He had just stepped into the mountain and was already met with this surprise.

"Ha-ha! Foolish human! You made a big mistake entering our territory! Now you shall be an offering to the Great God of the Dead!"

A deep, terrifying voice echoed from behind the undead, drawing Daniel’s attention.

The undead parted, and a larger skeletal figure wearing a cloak and holding a staff stepped forward.

"Oh? An undead that can talk? And it’s C-rank too, huh?" Daniel looked at the skeleton with curiosity.

"How dare you ignore my words, human!" the undead said again, clearly angrier this time.

Daniel ignored him again and pulled his sword from his inventory. Undead might be weak, but they gave decent exp, and there were plenty of them here.

"You! Filthy human! Capture him!" the skeletal figure barked and turned to the others.

The undead rushed at Daniel. Those in the trees fired arrows, while the rest charged in with weapons.

Without hesitation, Daniel began slaughtering them. Most of them were between F and D rank. Aside from the talking one, none seemed to be C rank.

[ You killed an F-rank Undead and gained 7 exp. ]

[ You killed a D-rank Undead and gained 49 exp. ]

Notifications kept popping up in his ears, but Daniel just ignored them.

[ Crimson Judgment ]

Realizing it would take too long to kill them one by one, he used the skill.

Hundreds of blood-red swords appeared above them and rained down on all the undead. In a matter of seconds, they were all killed.

[ You killed a total of 82 undead and gained 690 exp. ]

A smile appeared on Daniel’s face. If this kept up, he’d reach C-rank by tomorrow.

"You damn human! How dare you kill my children! Die, you cursed scum!" The only remaining undead, shocked and furious, shouted.

"Curse of the Black Sun!"

He raised his bony hands and launched a dense, black curse shaped like a sun toward Daniel.

"Oh? A curse user?"

Seeing the incoming curse, Daniel immediately reactivated [Royal Barrier], reflecting the curse back at the undead.

"Ahhh! No! How is this possible?! It hurts! Aghh—"

The curse spread across the skeleton’s body, turning its bones pitch black.

Daniel walked up to him and stared with curiosity. He thought undead couldn’t feel pain. What was going on? Was it mental pain?

Either way, he hadn’t expected to meet an undead capable of casting a curse. That kind of skill was extremely useful—especially for assassins.

To Daniel’s surprise, the light in the undead’s eyes faded and it... died?

Daniel began laughing. He doubted a curse like that could really kill a skeleton.

He’d had to crush the rest of the undead to make sure they stayed dead too.

"Alright, enough acting. You better answer my questions, or I’ll really kill you."

Daniel grabbed the skeleton’s head and held it up.

"It didn’t work? But how?! I’m sure my acting was flawless!"

The skeleton opened its eyes again and looked at Daniel in fear.

What kind of monster was this human? He was clearly a lowly D-rank... so how was he this powerful? The only reason he’d targeted him in the first place was because he was a D-rank!

"Are you going to answer my questions or not?" Daniel asked coldly.

The skull went quiet, then nodded up and down to indicate yes.

"Good. Are there more undead besides you guys?"

"Yes, Great Human. A tribe of us exists, led by a Lich."

"A Lich? How strong is it?"

From what Daniel knew, Liches were generally between half-step B-rank and full B-rank.

If it was half-step B, he could deal with it. If it was full B, then he’d keep his distance.

However, what really caught his attention was the existence of an entire undead tribe—something that couldn’t be ignored, and not just because of the exp.

Currently, his financial resources were running low, and from what he knew, undead—just like goblins—had a strong obsession with collecting gold and jewels.

He couldn’t possibly pass up such a good opportunity to refill his finances, could he?

"Our leader is a mighty Lich who rivals the gods—" Before the skull could finish, Daniel started squeezing it.

"You better explain it properly, or I’ll crush your head."

"Okay, okay! I made a mistake! Forgive me!"

After that, the skeleton explained everything. The Lich who led the undead tribe was actually half-step B-rank.

Apparently, it was planning to hold a ritual tonight to reach full B-rank by absorbing the flesh and blood of the humans they had captured.

According to the skeleton, they had dozens of humans imprisoned. The undead only targeted weak humans to ensure they could capture them easily.

"When’s the ritual happening?"

"Tonight, Great Human. We were patrolling to make sure the area was secure."

"Good. How many undead are over there?"

Daniel asked with a smile that to the skeleton looked nothing short of demonic.

"Around 1000, Great Human."
