Chapter 79: Darkness? They have to face it!

"How did your husband know about this matter?" He asked her softly.

She shook her head, "I don’t know either. The next day after we met, we both went to the restaurant you recommended. I saw you in the parking lot there. That was when my husband saw you and said that he knew something and wanted to warn you. So, I went to the cemetery to find your details and then he called you."

She did not withhold any information and explained everything to him clearly in case he would misunderstand something.

She then continued, "Also, please don’t blame the person in charge of the cemetery. I used too many tricks to get your information out of him. If you blame him, I will feel guilty."

Merlin looked at the tab in his hands. The screen showed Helena’s cheeky smile on the CCTV camera. He could already guess she was doing some acts to get the information from the person in charge.

He laughed out loud, "Fine. Fine. I won’t blame him. Happy? But just because your husband said that he wanted to warn me, you did everything for him? Didn’t you doubt that he would do something to me because he doubted our relationship or something like that? You trusted him so much?"

Helena blinked her eyes. She was calm for a second. She never thought of something like that at all.

After a few seconds, she shook her head and chuckled, "No way. Vernon is never an insecure person. If he had any problem with me interacting with you, he would say it to my face directly instead of going behind my back and doing something to you.

"And trust? Of course, I trust him. I married him for a reason after all. If I couldn’t even trust him this much, why would I marry him?"

Merlin heard her words and laughed softly, "Hmm... that’s a valid point. I am happy that you married a man you can trust so much."

Helena smiled, "Thank you." She could feel that he was genuinely happy for her and thus thanked him sincerely.

"So, you really are fine?" She asked him once again to be sure.

"I really am fine," He answered once again with patience. "How do you want me to prove it to you?"

Helena thought for a second before she got an idea, "I have an idea."

"Oh? What is it?" He seemed interested in what she would come up with.

"In three days, we will have our company’s anniversary party. You have to come there and meet me. When I see you with my own eyes, I will be sure that you are fine. How is it?" Helena smiled cheekily.

"Ha ha ha ha...." Merlin laughed out loud, "You cheeky girl. If you want to invite me to your party, you could have done that directly. Do you have to go in such a roundabout manner like that?"

"He he. I just wasn’t sure if you would come if I casually invited you to our party. So, I have to have some tricks up my sleeve, right?" She cheekily grinned.

She turned around and saw Vernon looking at her.

She waved at him and mouthed, "Merlin," while pointing her finger at her phone.

Vernon was stunned and blinked his eyes. He mouthed back, "He found out about my call?"

Helena pursed her lips and nodded but her eyes seemed to shine brightly.

He mouthed again, "Did he ask about me?"

Helena casually stuck her tongue out, saying it didn’t matter much and she handled it.

Vernon sighed in relief and nodded.

"So, are you coming to the party?" She asked on the phone.

"Does your husband know that you invited me? Is he okay with it?" Even though Merlin had no bad ideas about Helena, from his assistant’s reaction the night before, he felt that the others would think differently when they saw the friendship between him and Helena.

Even if they did not care about the others, they couldn’t ignore Vernon’s feelings about this matter.

No matter what, Merlin would never want Helena’s married life to be disturbed because of him. So he had to be cautious.

"Vernon? Why would he mind?" Helena did not understand and asked.

Vernon raised an eyebrow at her, asking what they were talking about.

She told him directly without mouthing this time, "I invited Merlin to the anniversary party. He was asking if you knew and would mind me inviting him. Do you mind?"

Vernon blinked his eyes in confusion, "Why would I mind? Isn’t he your good friend? You should invite your friends. What is there to worry so much about?"

Helena nodded, saying that’s what she thought as well.

On the other end of the call, Merlin’s lips twitched.

These two young lads. They were really suited to each other. They never thought in the way the others thought.

They had such pure minds, he wished they would stay that way forever.

That is how a human feels. When they see something beautiful, they would hope that it will stay beautiful for a long time. They would hope it would never be destroyed.

The relationship between Vernon and Helena looked so beautiful for Merlin as well. From the bottom of his heart, he hoped they stayed the same without any maliciousness of the world destroying their pure minds.

But, he was wrong. They couldn’t stay that way for too long.

Vernon had already opened his eyes and started to see a few things after living a lifetime.

On the other hand, Helena was still pure-minded, but it wouldn’t stay the same for too long.

She had no choice but to face the darkness of the world and see everything in a new light.

In just a few days, she will have to see the first stage of such darkness in this world and she has to grow up no matter what. She had to think of ways to escape such darkness... but at what cost?
