Awakening of the Scheming Wife -
Chapter 77: Romantic? No!
Chapter 77: Romantic? No!
Seeing the shark’s happy back swimming in the sea, Merlin smiled and continued to enjoy his fish.
There was no more screaming or groaning from pain. There was no more flapping around the cruise ship in the water.
With no sounds, the only sound that could be heard was the sound of the fish frying.
They could smell the frying fish and the spices added to it. But Merlin felt a light scent of blood with his sharp senses and frowned.
He wanted to enjoy this fish. Even though he did not usually care about the smell of blood, it wasn’t exactly his favorite either.
He just casually looked at his men and twirled his index finger in the air.
Immediately they got some water and mops and whatnot before hurrying around to clean the area.
In a few minutes, the entire deck shone with sparkles.
They had done this so many times that they did not need too much time to get such an excellent result.
Merlin smiled in satisfaction and continued to eat his fish.
"Did you find the man who called me?" He asked his assistant.
His assistant walked towards him and nodded, "Yes, Boss. I found him. His name is Vernon Jeffery."
"Jeffery? That name sounds familiar. But I don’t remember any Vernon. Who is he?" Merlin asked.
"Boss, Vernon Jeffery is the younger brother of Vincent Jeffery." His assistant immediately cleared his doubts.
"Vincent? I know him but we haven’t had any contact before, right? Why is his brother involved in my matters all of a sudden?" Merlin mumbled to himself.
His assistant heard his words as well but since he had no answer, he did not give any reply.
"So? How did Vincent’s brother find my contact information? He called my personal number and not my professional one. That was what’s been bugging me all this while," Merlin asked seriously.
Letting his personal number out to the strangers is a big taboo in their field of work. Once it falls into the wrong hands, then he will be done for just like that.
"Ehem," The assistant coughed and cleared his throat. "Umm... boss..." He had something to say but he wasn’t sure how to say that.
Merlin looked at him and then at the men around him.
They were all his trusted men. So he just casually waved his hands, "Just say it. What are you mumbling around for?"
"Ummm... Actually, I looked into this matter and found out how Mr Vernon got your number." He still looked hesitant as he spoke softly, without giving all the information out at once.
"How?" Merlin frowned and asked. He was curious and also angry at his assistant for dillydallying.
The assistant lowered his head and spoke softly, "Mr Vernon and his wife found your number after asking for it from the person in charge at the cemetery you went to a few days ago."
Merlin frowned.
He understood why his assistant looked hesitant to speak. It was because he didn’t want to bring up his parents in front of him, lest he felt sad again.
But he was more confused about Vernon’s matter.
"How did they know about my visit to the cemetery? What exactly is going on with them? Also, you said that he went there with his wife? Who is she? Why did he bring a woman to the cemetery just for my sake? Is he crazy?" Merlin’s frown only became deeper and deeper as he thought.
If he went alone to the cemetery to find his details, it is one thing. But he even had to bring his wife. He knew Vincent. Vincent is a young man almost around his age. His younger brother should be younger than him.
So old would that younger brother’s wife be?
She should be a young lady, right? Why would he bring such a young lady to a cemetery to gather the negative energy for no reason? This made him lose the little bit of good impression he had on Vernon.
The assistant did not reply. He had no answers to these questions. What would he say?
"Show me the picture of that man," Merlin asked with a slight hint of irritation.
"Here, boss," His assistant was already ready with everything his boss might ask. He gave his tablet to his boss, which showed a picture of Vernon.
Merlin swiped the picture to the right and saw another picture of Vernon. This picture was of him standing at the entrance of the cemetery.
It was taken from the CCTV cameras from the cemetery.
"He is standing outside? He didn’t go in? His wife isn’t by his side? Did he send his wife to find the information about me?" He mumbled to himself.
"No, I think I saw this man before. Where did I see him?" He thought to himself.
He had definitely seen him before. But he couldn’t remember when and where.
His finger subconsciously swiped on the screen once again. There was an image of Helena inside the cemetery, enquiring about Merlin.
When Merlin saw her face, he froze. "It’s her?"
"Boss? Do you know her?" His assistant did not expect this and asked in surprise.
"Yeah. I did meet her before," Merlin answered him, but he did not elaborate much.
But he was enlightened about the entire matter immediately.
It wasn’t that Vernon sent a young lady to find out about him. It was because the young lady knew him that she went inside.
Also, the young lady’s mother was inside. So, she was familiar with the person in charge of the Cemetery and not Vernon.
So, he should let his wife ask for his details or they would have never got Merlin’s information at all.
"What did you say her name was?" Merlin smiled and asked.
"Boss, it’s Helena. Helena Ford." His assistant did not understand why his boss was smiling while looking at that woman on the screen, but he answered immediately.
But, he couldn’t help but glance at his boss’s face from time to time. He wondered if his boss was interested in this woman.
But she was a married woman.
"Boss, she is married," He couldn’t help but softly remind his boss from the side.
Merlin frowned and looked at his assistant, "I know that. What do you mean by saying that?"
How could he not understand what was going on in that little head of his assistant?
But he did not like that.
He adored the lady named Helena for some reason, but when his assistant looked at that adoration with a colored tint, he did not like it.
If a man liked a woman, should it have to be romantic? Couldn’t it be because of some normal adoration or admiration?
He did not admire Helena. He did not know much about her to admire her.
But for some reason, he really liked that young lady. When he saw her, he wanted her to not cry. He wanted to make her laugh. He wanted to see her smile.
But that doesn’t mean that he had any sort of romantic interest in her. He just felt that she looked cute like a kitten.
Seeing Merlin’s dangerous gaze, his assistant trembled in fear. "Boss, I didn’t mean anything. I just want to remind you that she is the daughter-in-law of the Jefferys. Can we even have any connection with them? I don’t think that’s appropriate, right?"
Merlin frowned when he heard his words. He pursed his lips, not saying anything.
Deep down, he knows his assistant was right. He shouldn’t have any connection with the Jeffreys.
He took a deep breath and looked back at the screen in his hands. He saw Helena’s smiling face on the screen.
She looked like a doll when she smiled.
His finger swiped left and he saw Vernon’s face again.
That was when he realized where he had seen Vernon before.
He saw the man at the cemetery that day when he met Helena.
He had seen her from a distance and thus didn’t see his features clearly. That was why he couldn’t remember when he had seen him before. Now that he saw Helena, he recalled everything.
He stopped thinking about his assistant’s words for a while.
Instead his mind was racing about what could have happened with Helena and Vernon before they called him.
He was a smart man. Once he found a few crucial points, it wasn’t very difficult for him to connect the dots.
He couldn’t help but smile thinking about Helena.
He looked at his assistant and said, "I want her number."
His assistant blinked his eyes. ’Did my words go into a deaf ear? He still wants to talk to a married woman?’
But he did not dare to say anything to his boss. He was already warned once. There is no way he would go against him once more.
Not when he was close to the shark at least.
With that thought in mind, he shivered before taking his phone out and giving the phone number he had already saved in his phone just in case while investigating.
He got Vernon’s number and thought that that would be enough. But luckily, he got Helena’s number as well and saved it. If he did not do that, he would have been proven incompetent by his boss.
He couldn’t help but pat his chest, ’Lucky me! Lucky me!’
"Here, Boss," He gave the number.
Merlin took the phone but did not dial directly. He had a mischievous smile and used his own phone to dial the number.
