Chapter 65: The Talk? Yes! 2
Helena narrowed her eyes and studied Vernon’s expressions clearly.
She could see how frustrated the man was, but she did not feel pity for him.
No matter what his thoughts or plans were, in the end, it was she who was humiliated.
If not for him, she wouldn’t have to go against her father who had to blackmail her.
She took a deep breath. "Fine. Whatever happened had happened. Let’s put that in the past for now. I want to know what you want to do now. What are your plans for our future? What exactly are you thinking?
"This time, I want you to talk to my face instead of pulling such things behind my back. I don’t care what you want. But I want you to tell it to my face. I think I am not asking for too much from you right?"
Vernon shook his head, "No. You aren’t asking too much from me."
"Good. Now, please tell me." Helena intertwined her fingers on the table and looked straight into his eyes as she asked him to speak.
Vernon took a very very deep breath. He got the chance to leave her. This is his chance to change his future for good.
He looked at Helena and answered seriously, "I want a divorce."
He found a slight shift in Helena’s pupils but except for that, there was no change in her expression whatsoever.
Helena blinked her eyes a couple of times. She leaned back in her chair and asked, "Why? I want a reason."
"I don’t know what our future will end up like. I don’t want to take any risks," Vernon said.
The present Helena and the Helena he had in his mind were completely different. He wasn’t sure if this Helena would end up like that Helena in the end or not.
He wasn’t sure why she ended up like that in his precious life in the first place.
No matter what, he wasn’t ready to take the risk.
Instead of trying to understand Helena and changing her to change his future, he would like to cut her off from the beginning to be on the safe side.
He doesn’t dare to take any risks.
After all, the risk doesn’t involve just himself but his entire family.
[Seriously! This man is getting more and more ridiculous as time goes by. What is he talking about? Who in this world knows their future? If everyone went by his logic, then wouldn’t there be no one married at all?]
Vernon sighed.
He agreed with her logic as well. But he couldn’t explain his side of the story to her. He could only let her continue thinking that he was ridiculous.
If he could save his family from future troubles, then what is being called ridiculous? He doesn’t care even if she calls him all the bad names in the world in all the languages as well.
Helena crossed her arms, "So, what are your plans for after the divorce?"
"Huh? What do you mean?" Vernon asked in confusion.
"I think my question is simple. You should have some plans for your life after the divorce, right? What are they?" Helena asked again.
Vernon blinked his eyes before he slowly shook his head, "None."
"None? How can you divorce without thinking about what to do later?" Helena asked again.
"Why can’t I?" Vernon asked back.
"What will your future end up like after the divorce?" She asked.
"Huh?" Vernon felt like he had heard this somewhere.
No, he said this somewhere.
Then he slowly realized that he had just said those words a second ago to Helena.
Isn’t that the reason he used to ask for a divorce?
If he wanted a divorce because he wasn’t sure of their future, then how could he ask for a divorce without making plans for his future?
Vernon understood that Helena was using his own words against him.
"Helena," He sighed. "I understand what you mean. I really do. I might sound stupid and ridiculous to you. But, I have my reasons. I need to have this divorce."
Helena looked at him without saying anything.
"You don’t have to give an answer to me immediately. You can take your time. There is no hurry at all," Vernon said again.
"What do you mean?" Helena raised an eyebrow and asked him.
"Ehem. Actually, I checked and found that a divorce can be applied only after at least a year of marriage. Until then, no one can apply. So, even if we want a divorce right now, we can’t. So, we still have a year." Vernon explained what he found about the divorce laws.
Helena’s lips curved upwards. She wanted to laugh at him but she stopped herself.
Was she the only one who found this entire scene funny?
She took a deep breath to calm her emotions and nodded, "Fine."
"Huh? Fine?" Vernon was confused. (Fine? What’s fine? Fine with the divorce? Or is it fine to think about the divorce?)
"Let’s get the divorce," Helena said.
"What?" Vernon was stunned.
The main reason Vernon had been planning ways to get rid of this marriage without talking to Helena was because he was sure she wouldn’t agree with the divorce in the first place.
After all, he had asked for a divorce in his previous life and she rejected him outright without even thinking about it. She even scolded him before leaving the room after rejecting.
But why did she agree to the divorce so easily in this life?
He couldn’t understand and was thus stunned.
Helena looked at him and casually shrugged, "Yes. Let’s get a divorce. If you don’t want me, then why would I want you? It is not like I have to have you, right?
"Firstly, it was our families who wanted this marriage for us. Then, we both had no one in our lives and agreed to continue with this marriage. If you had told me before the marriage, everything would have been way simpler than this."
