Awakening of the Scheming Wife -
Chapter 62: First Lesson? Yes!
Chapter 62: First Lesson? Yes!
He never knew that Helena was investigating such a thing.
Fine. He was a bad husband for not knowing that Helena had been going through a few things during this time.
But why didn’t he find anything about this matter later as well?
He never heard a single word about Helena’s mother’s family or her brother who had gone missing all these years.
No such man came into their lives claiming to be Helena’s brother.
So, what exactly happened in the previous life?
And, what changed in this life?
Is this change a good change? Or a bad one?
Slowly, Hubert changed the topic and lightened the atmosphere.
"Did you offend someone recently? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have to come here for work today at all." Hubert asked out of the blue.
He had thought for long and hard before he came to this conclusion.
"Ummm..." Helena had a look of awkwardness as she gave him a guilty smile, "I am sorry for the trouble. I did not think much of it, and somehow, it ended up this way. It was because of me that you had to travel suddenly like this."
She really felt guilty about this matter. She also did not understand Faye’s father’s actions this time around.
Yes, she had offended him. As a punishment, he wanted to keep her away from meeting Hubert.
But he should have acted against her instead of acting against Hubert, right?
Such a wilful old man he was! She grumbled to herself.
Vernon heard her thoughts as well and nodded in agreement.
No matter what, Hubert is the police Commissioner. Does he have to move the old man around just to teach a young girl a lesson for having a slip of the tongue?
Hubert understood Helena and smiled, "You don’t have to feel guilty for my sake. Don’t worry. This wasn’t too much trouble for me.
"But you should have to be careful when dealing with others in the future. You should treat this as a lesson and learn from it. I can see that whatever you have done this time was something small. That’s why that person gave you such a ’small’ punishment.
"You may feel that this punishment wasn’t ’small’ at all. But in the world outside, this really is considered as small. They just wanted to delay your work for a little while. That’s all.
"But if they felt really offended, I can definitely be sure to say that they had the way for us never to meet each other."
Helena was stunned. She had never thought of this matter in this direction. She just felt indignation because she was wrongfully troubled because of Faye.
It was Faye who came to trouble her. She simply retaliated. What wrong had she done?
But now, she has learned that the world is not about who is right or wrong. Instead, it was about the power the person held.
Faye’s father held the power to stop her from achieving her goal.
So she had to be careful not to offend him even if she had to suffer a little.
Now, she even had to be thankful that the lesson she was taught was too ’small’ and nothing too grave.
Whatever happened this time looked too insignificant.
But for Helena, this small incident acted like an eye opener.
She shouldn’t act like a young girl who can do whatever she wants anymore.
Firstly, she had no mother anymore.
Secondly, her relationship with her father was strained.
Lastly, her husband wants to maintain his distance from her.
In short, even though she was surrounded with people, she was still alone in this world right now.
She can’t be as willful as she was before. She had to be cautious. She had to learn to maintain some restraint in her actions.
She shouldn’t speak whatever she wants out loud.
She had to be cautious with what she spoke and what she did from now on.
After all, if Faye’s father really took this matter a bit more seriously, she would have never found out about her mother’s family or her nephew. This matter would have been in the dark for her.
Just a slip of her tongue, and she would have suffered a great loss.
[It wasn’t worth it.
It really wasn’t worth it.
I have to speak carefully from now on.]
She had learnt her first lesson, which would change her life from then onwards.
From the side, Vernon couldn’t help but frown. He heard everything. He understood her thoughts clearly.
But she was a bit too careful, wasn’t she?
Even if someone wanted to do something against her, she would always have him and his family behind her, supporting her, right?
But why couldn’t she think of this matter like that?
He felt someone scratching his heart. He felt it itch. He felt uncomfortable.
"I understand what you are saying. Thank you, Uncle Hubert. I will remember your words carefully," Helena sincerely bowed her head to thank the old man, who carefully guided the junior even though he didn’t have to get involved.
Hubert saw how sincere she was and smiled.

Helena and Vernon went to the restaurant that Helena had mentioned the night before for breakfast.
Helena saw a familiar silhouette in the parking lot and stopped in her tracks.
"What happened? What are you looking at?" Vernon looked at her and asked in confusion.
Helena shook her head. "I thought I saw someone familiar. But he just got into the car, and I missed him."
Vernon followed her gaze and looked at the car that was leaving the parking lot. When the car took a U-turn to leave the lot, Vernon caught a glimpse of the man who was driving.
He looked at his face and felt he was familiar.
He had seen that face before. But he couldn’t remember where.
"Who is he?" Vernon asked Helena.
Helena shrugged, "I don’t know either. I met him yesterday at the cemetery and had a small talk. He was the one who suggested this restaurant to me as well."
Vernon nodded and did not take this matter to heart, and the couple entered the restaurant.
