Chapter 59: Seniors? Yes!
Chapter 59: Seniors? Yes!
"Oh! You mean that? Yeah, I am feeling better. Thank you so much," She thanked him sincerely.
She finally understood why he had been making jokes with her for so long. He just tried to divert her attention from the sad things she was thinking about earlier.
The man casually shook his head, indicating there was no need to thank him. "So, who is inside?"
Helena looked inside the cemetery, "My mom."
"Oh. Since when?" He asked again.
"Newly joined?" Helena tried to joke. "Just brought her here for her admission. I hope she becomes friends with everyone here."
She talked like she brought her daughter to join a new school.
The man chuckled along with her and nodded, "Sure. Don’t worry. My parents are both inside. I am sure they will take care of her for you."
Helena was stunned. But she smiled and nodded, "Then I will have to thank your parents in advance. Since when have they been here?"
"Oh, they are just a few months seniors," The man answered.
They continued talking like everything was normal and they were just there to meet their family members in their school.
Neither of them showed any pity to the other or said a word of ’sorry’.
It was because they understood.
Sometimes, hearing sorry wasn’t helpful. It would sound like the other person was pitying them.
But have a conversation as casual as they were having right now? It somehow felt simple and perfect.
They both smiled while talking about their loved ones, forgetting their sadness.
After a long while, the man asked her, "Are you going back now? Maybe your husband is waiting for you, right?"
Helena shook her head, "Actually I wanted to stay alone for a while. Do you know any good places to visit around here?"
"I do know a few places. So, you aren’t a local here? Then why did you bring your mom here?"
"Well, my mom loved this place. So, I wanted her to settle here so she could enjoy this peaceful place as she had always wanted." Helena smiled, reminiscing about her mom.
The man nodded, "Yes. This is my favorite city as well. Because of me, my parents had to bring me here almost every year."
"Oh? You are not a local either?" Helena was surprised. She totally thought that the man belonged to that place for some reason.
The man chuckled and shook his head, "No. But I feel like I have an affinity with this place. It just pulls me towards it."
He closed his eyes, leaned backwards, and breathed in the air with a smile.
Helena looked at his nostalgic expression and remained silent.
After a few more words, they bade goodbye to each other and left the cemetery.
Helena took the man’s suggestions and visited a few places all on her own.
Suddenly, she thought to herself while she was having her dinner at a restaurant, "I didn’t ask his name."
Then she thought she might never meet him anyway and let the matter be.
After dinner, she did not want to look around the city anymore and went back to the villa.
She saw Vernon sitting on the sofa alone.
Helena frowned. She thought he would pretend to sleep again by the time she got home.
"You are still up?" She asked while placing her bag at the side.
"Yeah. I was waiting for you. What have you done today?" He looked at her in worry.
She smiled and shook her head, "I just roamed the place a little. Visited some good places."
She sat by his side on the sofa and asked, "Have you had your dinner?"
"Yes. With everyone else. You?"
"I did as well. I went to this good restaurant. I liked the food there. Maybe we should go there tomorrow. You will love it as well."
Vernon smiled and nodded, "Sure. Let’s go then."
They somehow made this small talk for as long as they could, not daring to bring up the heavy stuff they had talked about at the cemetery earlier.
Helena sighed and looked at him, "I am feeling a little tired today. Should we rest for now and talk tomorrow? Or should we talk now?"
Vernon looked at her smile, but could see that she was really tired. He shook his head and smiled, "What’s the hurry? We can talk tomorrow. You should go and rest right now."
"Thank you," Helena smiled and got up.
They went to sleep, but this time in different rooms, on different beds.

Helena woke up and went downstairs to meet everyone for breakfast.
"Where is Vernon?" Father Ford asked her.
Helena blinked her eyes. She did not know. She thought he might have come here already. Then she replied, "He is coming."
No one noticed anything wrong with her.
The helper served them with food on the table and everyone started to eat when Vernon joined them as well.
As they were eating, Helena’s phone rang.
She looked at the phone and excused herself to take the call.
When she came back, Vernon looked at her, inquiring about the call.
Since he sat right beside her, he saw the caller ID on her screen.
She gave him a nod.
After everyone was done eating, the couple excused themselves and left.
"What did he say?" Vernon asked as soon as they were out of everyone’s hearing range.
"He said that he is free and can meet us in an hour," Helena did not hide anything from him and answered sincerely.
Vernon nodded, "Then we should leave right now. Get ready."
"I am ready. I just have to bring my purse. You get the keys," They arranged their tasks immediately and started scurrying.
They reached the meeting place by the appointed time.
"Who are you here for?"
"We have an appointment with a Mr. Coleman." Helena gave the name.
"Please, this way." The man led the couple towards the room Hubert was in.
When the man knocked on the door, they heard Hubert’s voice from the inside, "Come in."
