Awakening of the Scheming Wife
Chapter 120: Weird? Yes!

Chapter 120: Weird? Yes!

Jemma’s parents looked hesitant to leave. They did not trust Vincent as they knew that he would definitely prefer Jemma’s well-being over their younger daughter.

"I said I will take care of it and I will. But until everything is done, I don’t want to see your faces or get a call from either of you." Vincent saw their hesitation and warned them seriously.

His cold voice sent chills down the middle-aged couple’s spines.

They swallowed their saliva in fear and nodded.

Their eyes slowly turned and fell on their daughter.

Before they could say another word, Vincent warned them, "You are not allowed to contact Jemma either. Now, please leave."

They did not dare to speak anymore. Even though they felt hesitant to leave, they still fled the house as if a fire was about to catch them from the back.

Seeing their fleeing backs, all the four people in the houses heaved sighs of relief.

"What exactly happened, Brother?" Vernon asked as he walked towards Vincent.

Helena walked to Jemma and sat beside her and held her hand to give her some encouragement to stay strong in these tough times.

Jemma smiled at Helena and gave a nod, thanking her for her support.

"We don’t know either. My in-laws suddenly came here and said that there was a ransom call in the middle of the night. The kidnappers apparently kidnapped Jemma’s sister and they wanted..." Vincent sighed without continuing his sentence.

Helena recalled Jemma’s parents’ words from earlier and then Vernon’s words from the morning and connected a few dots. She gasped and placed her hand over her mouth in shock.

Everyone looked at her.

Helena softly asked Vincent in shock, "Brother Vincent. Do you mean they are asking for..."

She turned to look at Jemma without saying anything.

But Vincent and Jemma immediately understood what she meant while Vernon did not.

Vernon asked, "Why did you stop in the middle of your sentence? What did they ask for? If it is money, it is easy to handle, right?"

Vincent and Jemma sighed looking at Vernon’s innocent face.

Then they looked at Helena and nodded their heads as Vincent replied, "You are right."

Vernon understood that Vincent’s comment wasn’t directed at his words but at Helena’s.

He was confused. It isn’t that he did not understand. But he did not want to understand. It was too scary to think in the direction his mind was telling him to think. He did not dare to.

[Sigh! Vernon really! I know he already understood what was happening. He just did not dare to think so. But if he continues this act of confusion, it will only waste our time. I think we should hurry up and plan for the rescue.]

Vernon heard Helena’s thoughts and pursed his lips. He knew that she was right. He also felt touched that she did not really think that he was stupid. She understood him the best.

He sighed and said, "Are they asking for Sister-in-law in exchange for her sister?"

Vincent looked at his brother in surprise. He nodded, "Right."

"He actually dared to ask for my sister-in-law in exchange for her sister? Is his brain dead? Who would lose one life to get back one life? Also, shouldn’t he know that our sister-in-law is more important to us than her sister? Why would we give her away to get her sister?" Vernon grumbled and scolded and also wondered.

He actually did not understand what the kidnappers were thinking.

While he was speaking, he used the word ’he’ instead of ’them’ the whole time, and Jemma realized that.

She frowned and couldn’t help but ask, "Do you know who the kidnapper is?"

"Uhh..." Vernon felt caught and he hesitantly looked at his brother for help. He did not know if he could speak or not. It is not that he wanted to hide it from Jemma.

First of all, he did not know how to explain the matter to her. He already had a lot of trouble explaining it to his brother. Thankfully, Vincent isn’t a person who would ask a lot of questions. He would just listen to what Vernon had to say and he would look into the matter and decide himself about how to handle the matter.

But Jemma wasn’t like that. She is a very curious person. Just like Vernon himself.

If she heard a piece of news, she had to get to know everything about the matter. From A to Z. Everything.

She wouldn’t let the matter go until she was satisfied.

How could Vernon talk about the matter of his ’dream’ in front of such a person?

Secondly, he wasn’t sure if Vincent wanted Jemma to know that the Seventh Prince had lustful eyes on her. Anyone would feel disgusted having such a person behind them.

So, he did not know if he should tell her or not or how he should tell her.

"You mean, Vincent knows as well?" Jemma saw his reaction and asked in astonishment.

"We are not sure. We are just guessing," Vincent said.

"Who is it? Wait, how did you guess? You mean someone wanted to harm us for a long time and you have been hiding it from me all this while?" Jemma interrogated her husband.

Helena took her hand back and moved a distance away from her, so the fire wouldn’t direct her way out of the blue.

Vernon, too, decided to stay as an audience and moved away. He went and sat beside Helena and the young couple watched the ’show’ innocently.

If one were to look at them, they could see the hint of excitement in their eyes. They really looked like kids, ready to watch a good show on the TV.

"It’s not like that," Vincent sighed.

"Then what is it like? You knew something but hid it from me. Tell me if I am wrong," Jemma stood up from her seat and placed her hands over her hips overbearingly.

Helena was stunned by this. She had always seen Jemma and Vincent acting lovey-dovey all the time. They might bicker from time to time but she never once saw Jemma placing her hands over her hips and looking at Vincent seriously.

She placed her hand over Vernon’s shoulder and whispered in his ear, "Should we do something? This looks serious."

Vernon looked at her and grinned, "This is serious? Where?"

"..."

They turned their heads to look at Jemma and Vincent.

"I did not hide anything from you. It is just that Vernon came to me yesterday and said something." Vincent tactfully threw the bomb at his younger brother.

Jemma frowned. She turned to Vernon and questioned him, "I saw you taking Vincent away yesterday. I thought it was something business-related. Is it related to me?"

"Umm..." Vernon did not expect he would be under the spotlight all of a sudden and was stunned.

He grabbed Helena’s arm and immediately hid behind her.

"What are you..." Helena was stunned and questioned Vernon. She couldn’t complete her question as she felt an intense gaze on her. She turned to look at Jemma and gave an awkward laugh, "He he."

"He he?" Jemma looked at her.

Helena lowered her head.

Jemma looked at everyone in the room and asked in exasperation, "So everyone knew but me? What exactly is it? Why couldn’t you guys tell me?"

"There is nothing that we couldn’t tell you, Honey," Vincent said.

Jemma understood that her husband wanted to tell her everything and looked at him calmly waiting for his next words.

Vincent took a deep breath and took a glance at Vernon before talking to Jemma, "You remember when Vernon came to me yesterday and wanted to talk something with me, right?"

Jemma nodded.

"He took me aside and something... weird." Vincent did not know how to explain the matter better than using the word ’weird’.

"What weird? How weird could he get than he already is?" Jemma deadpanned.

"Hey, sister-in-law. I am still here, you know? Also, how am I weird?" Vernon came out from behind his wife and pouted as he asked.

Jemma just looked at him and scoffed, not defending herself at all.

Vernon pouted more at her reaction. He went back to hiding behind his wife once again- this time, it was to sulk.

Everyone else ignored him completely.

"Well, he said that the Seventh Prince, whom I introduced yesterday to you, would try to harm you later after the party. So, I have to be careful," Vincent continued, not caring about how his wife and his brother bickered. He was used to it already.

"The Seventh Prince? I didn’t like him at all when I met him. Didn’t Vernon take you away long before the Prince came to the party yesterday? How did he know he would harm me long before his arrival?" Jemma doubted.

She did not doubt that Vernon could be wrong. Her only doubt was how he knew before. This showed how much she trusted this younger brother-in-law of hers.

"That was what I said was weird," Vincent shrugged, not explaining anything more as he did not exactly knew more than that anyway.

Jemma turned to Vernon and asked, "How did you know, Vernon?"

"I am weird. I don’t know anything. Hmph." He continued to sulk and pulled Helena so that she wouldn’t let Jemma look at his face.

Helena looked at his childish actions and cleared her throat in embarrassment. She looked at Jemma and explained, "Actually, Sister Jemma, Vernon saw some things in a dream. Weirdly enough, some of those things were really happening."
