Awakening: God-Tier Adaptive System
Chapter 60: Conspiracy

Chapter 60: Conspiracy

Lyra nodded, and with a slight pushed, the bars gave way.

She slipped through first, then Neo followed.

They found themselves inside what appeared to be a warehouse

Large crates were scattered around, marked with various languages and address codes.

’Judging from the walls, we’re in the central section of the warehouse,’

Fortunately, most of the workers were gathered near the entrance. Lyra would also pick up on any nearby presence with her senses, giving them another layer of safety.

Still, Neo didn’t rely on that alone. He scanned the walls and ceiling, checking for security cameras.

After a quick sweep, he confirmed they were standing in a blind spot—at least for now.

"Yeah, we’re safe for now," he lowered his voice.

Next, he examined the labels, noting the countries they came from.

Most were from the two largest manufacturing nations in the East.

But he wasn’t really that surprised.

This kind of setup was expected in a place like this—efficient, well-supplied, and backed by the usual giants.

He wandered over to one of the crates and noticed a fragile sticker slapped on the side, along with a logo that looked like a single red bottle.

Inside, he found a treasure trove of wine, each one carefully packaged and sealed.

’Nice.’ He chuckled to himself as he moved on to another crate, this one filled to the brim with bottled beers.

CLICK.

The bottle popped open.

As he took a sip, his face scrunched up in distaste. "Oh man, this beer sucks,"

Neo began to search through the crates, his eyes scanning the labels.

As he searched, he couldn’t help but think about how nice it would be to have a cold beer from back home - something that would taste like comfort and nostalgia.

But there was none.

He sighed and took another sip of the subpar beer, wincing at the bitter taste.

"Guess I’ll just have to settle for this,"

While he continued to drink, he noticed her watching him with interest.

He smiled and handed her a bottle, thinking she might appreciate it as well.

But as soon as she took a sip, her face contorted in distaste.

She almost threw the bottle off, her hand jerking back in surprise. "Ugh, what is this?" she asked, her voice laced with disgust.

Neo chuckled, amused by her reaction. "American beer taste better" he said with a grin. "But I guess it’s better than nothing."

Lyra looked at him like he was crazy.

"Better than nothing? This is awful!" She handed the bottle back to him, who took it from her with a laugh.

After he finished the two bottles, he realized that it barely registered in his body. He felt no buzz, no dizziness, and no impairment of his senses.

But he didn’t dwell on it too much, instead, he tried checking the crates for something more substantial. Like food.

Although he didn’t get hungry as fast as normal humans, it didn’t mean that his body didn’t need any nutrients at all.

As he rummaged through the crates, Neo’s eyes landed on a stash of canned goods. He pulled out a few and examined them.

They were mostly beans and sardines, but one can in particular caught his eye - corned beef.

He opened the can and was about to eat the contents when Lyra suddenly appeared beside him.

"Give me one!" she exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with excitement.

They both started eating, the smell of processed meat filling their noses.

Once they gotten their fill of food, they carefully put back the lid of the crates, making sure to leave everything as they had found it.

"Let’s move," he ordered.

They continued deeper into the facility, keeping close to the walls and moving between crates for cover.

As they advanced, more workers came into view—some unloading supplies, others moving carts or checking inventory on handheld devices.

Thanks to their keen senses, the two were able to navigate the entire warehouse.

Their heightened awareness of their surroundings allowed them to avoid detection, slipping past security cameras and dodging workers.

It also helped that there were fewer people around, likely because most of the warehouse staff were off taking lunch somewhere.

Neo’s eyes landed on a rack. "Look, vests and jackets,"

"Let’s grab them so we can disguise ourselves," he suggested.

Without wasting time, Lyra began to sort through the rack, searching for vests and jackets that fit them both.

Neo joined in, trying on a few different sizes until they found ones that fit comfortably.

With their new disguise in place, neither of them aimed for the obvious exit.

Instead, they scanned the area and found a service door hidden behind a stack of crates.

Quietly, they slipped out in an alley.

"Air..." she inhaled, her voice filled with relief.

Neo let her enjoy her moment before breaking the silence.

"Can you track the Awakener now?"

"Yes," her nose twitched while she pointed toward a two-story green building in the distance crowded with patrolling mercenaries.

The building itself was quite large, likely capable of fitting 20 rooms without issue. It was either an office or a barracks.

’This will be more complicated,’ he sighed.

With that level of security and CCTV cameras, there was no way to enter without being noticed unless they have a way to turn completely invisible.

So, they decided to head to another location first, one that would give them a better vantage point to observe the building more easily.

"Let’s wait," he said, his voice low and even. "Maybe he’ll come out of the building, and that would be our best chance to get him."

Lyra nodded in agreement.

But she suddenly tensed. "There’s another one!"

Neo’s head snapped towards her. "Another Awakener?"

"Yes, and this one is even stronger!"

"Where?" he asked, his voice urgent.

"It’s.." Lyra began, but before she could finish, a dense mist enveloped them.

He instinctively reached out for Lyra, his hand closing around her arm as he pulled her close.

"What’s going on?" he whispered.

"I don’t know," she whispered back. "But I think we’re not alone."

Surrounded by the thick mist, Neo and Lyra narrowed their eyes at the sound of approaching footsteps echoing through the alley.

Neo’s instincts immediately went on high alert, and he could feel his body tensing up, preparing for a fight.

He glanced over at Lyra, who was standing beside him, her eyes fixed intently on the direction of the footsteps.

Her hand transformed, and he could see a hint of tension in her shoulders.

Whoever was approaching radiated immense danger, and Lyra fought to suppress her fear, determined not to step back.

Suddenly, everything went silent. The footsteps stopped, and they found themselves back to the pier.

Lyra looked around, confused, as if trying to process what had just happened. Neo did the same.

It was as if the entire thing had been a dream. But it felt so real. The fear, the tension, the sense of impending danger - it all still lingered in their minds.

She turned to him, her eyes questioning. "What just happened?"

He was about to say something when he paused, seeing an envelope on the ground.

It was partially hidden in the shadows of the alleyway, and it looked like it had been dropped or thrown away.

But he knew for sure it hadn’t been there before.

’Did the person who trapped us in that weird illusion drop it?’

It was the only conclusion he could come up with. He dropped to one knee, opened the envelope, and his eyes widened as he saw the contents.

Inside the envelope were two cards labeled "D Rank Awakeners." Along with them was a letter detailing the identities of the cards—one for him and one for Lyra.

It was different from the access card he received earlier. This one looked more like a license.

He kept reading the letter, and with each line, his shock grew.

Whoever left this envelope clearly wanted them to steal these identities.

’Who’s helping us? And have they been watching us this whole time?’

Just the thought of a hidden force observing them made him uneasy.

If it was true, it meant someone was pulling the strings all along, without his knowledge.

’Now that I think about it, Suhana’s appearance and her giving me that card was too much of a coincidence.’

It was as if she had intentionally given him that card, so he could access the facility and meet Lyra.

’Maybe there are other clues,’ he thought, flipping the letter over.

He saw a logo — a snake eating its own tail. At the bottom was a quote.

"To restore balance, we must first confront the cycle we’ve created, for only in consuming our past can we give birth to a better future." he read aloud.

’Consuming our past... giving birth to a better future...’ he trailed off.

’Could it be a secret organization trying to sabotage this whole operation? And from the looks of it, they’re insiders or they wouldn’t have been able to give me this IDs.’
