Awakening: God-Tier Adaptive System -
Chapter 56: The Goal
Chapter 56: The Goal
’Yeah, that’s enough resting,’
He stood up, stretching his arms and arching his back to relieve the tension that had built up during their long journey.
"Let’s take a look at the top," Neo said, his gaze fixed on the mountain range that loomed before them.
"Okay," she nodded, and started climbing.
The incline was sharp, but she tackled it with ease, her movements fluid and surefooted as she led the way up the rugged terrain.
The ease with which she navigated the treacherous terrain wasn’t a result of superior physical strength, but rather a testament to her honed instincts and deeply ingrained muscle memory.
This innate ability to adapt and respond to her surroundings created a noticeable gap between their skills, one that Neo couldn’t help but acknowledge.
He made a mental note of this, recognizing the need for him to develop and learn how to control his tiger form better.
So, he started observing her movements, and slowly but surely, he was getting the hang of it.
The secret lay in nuanced control, where every step and jump required just enough force.
He began to notice the way she distributed her weight, shifting her center of gravity to maintain balance, and the subtle pressure she applied to each footfall.
As he mimicked her techniques, his own coordination and agility improved, his body adapting to the demands of the rugged terrain.
THUD!
They finally reached the cliff of the mountain, and from their spot they saw endless lands.
"Holy shit, are we really in an island? Why can’t I see any ocean?" Neo looked around but even the horizon only showed lands.
This means that they’re basically in an a very large island. He also noticed the place they had been earlier—now burned and completely destroyed.
It seemed the zombies had already been dealt with.
He wasn’t really surprised. An outbreak like that could only be stopped by completely obliterating everything.
If his guess was right, the person Lyra found dangerous was the one responsible for it. It was probably someone with fire-related powers, considering the type of damage done.
"Look over there. Is that the Main Sector you mentioned?" she asked, pointing ahead.
He transformed his eyes, focusing on the distant object she was pointing at, and it was still barely visible.
’The hell...’
’That’s not just a just a town.. that’s a damn city. How the hell does something that big exist without the world knowing?’
Though they were far away, he could estimate its massive size by calculating the distance.
’I don’t get it....Something this big should have been picked up by satellites already. ’
The world was more connected than ever, with satellite footage and mapping technology readily available to anyone with an internet connection.
Amateur cartographers and conspiracy theorists had made careers out of scouring the globe for hidden secrets and unexplained locations.
He was pretty sure that social media influencers, and self-appointed journalists would love a topic like this.
And yet, somehow, this massive walled city managed to evade detection.
Then it hit him.
’The government... The Oligarchs... The top 0.1%’
’This means not even satellite footages were safe. They must have had some kind of arrangement with the organizations that operate the satellites, ’
CRACK!
Neo’s fist connected with a boulder, the sound of the impact echoing through the air.
’Darn it, how big is this organization, and what the hell am I dealing with?’
The weight of the world seemed to be crushing him, making him feel like he was fighting a losing battle.
’Can I even do it?’
Doubt crept in, whispering in his ear that he was no match for this behemoth.
Maybe he was indeed shooting too far, trying to take on an enemy that was too powerful, too entrenched.
The thought of escaping the island and forgetting everything began to seem like a tantalizing option.
Why bother fighting a battle that seemed impossible to win?
Why risk everything when he could just walk away and leave it all behind?
The temptation to give up was getting stronger, and for a moment, he felt like he was teetering on the edge of surrender.
[DING!]
[MISSION: REACH THE WALLED CITY]
[REWARD: GOLD RANK BOX]
The system’s notification was like a spark that reignited the flame within him.
His eyes lit up with determination as he remembered his power.
’That’s right. The system’s still with me. As long as I complete missions, and feed Gluttony. I’ll keep getting stronger.’
He might not be powerful now, but his ability to keep growing stronger was his ticket to do the impossible.
With the doubt cleared up, Neo took a deep breath and began to think of a plan.
His mind raced as he considered everything—the danger, the location, his system, Lyra, and other variables—to find the best solution that offered the highest chance of survival.
’I got it,’
He looked at her and said, "We will hit the other smaller and nearest towns first."
Lyra’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Why?"
Neo hesitated for a moment before responding. He met her gaze and felt it was okay to let her in on his secret.
"I have the ability to grow stronger by devouring other powers," he explained, his voice low and serious. "That’s why I was able to get your tiger transformation."
She accepted it without hesitation. Her loyalty had grown too strong for doubt to matter.
That gave him the confidence to share even more.
"But it has a cooldown of 24 hours, so my plan is to hit a sector and find someone there with useful powers and absorb them. I’ll keep doing this until I’m strong enough to take on the Main sector."
The plan sounded logical, so she nodded.
"Good, now we need to find a base first, and I think that spot is perfect," Neo pointed to a river that flowed through the landscape.
The river connected to three towns, each larger than the one they had left behind.
They had more buildings and what looked like a bustling population.
"Let’s go!"
