Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 98: Not a Weird Person; Just different.
Chapter 98: Not a Weird Person; Just different.
As expected, after the picture Stuart posted the previous day and his act of tagging her, she had met countless ’prospective’ friends waiting for her on campus today. While some of them had been content with asking if she was really going to delve completely into the acting industry, the better part, like the group of girls that just departed, had begun by asking her who her father was and what important connections she had in the society, before proposing to be her friend and invite her to lunch, tea or dinner.
She had successfully fended off a lot of people before lectures started and within the thirty minutes since it had ended, she had fended off even more people. Some came to ask if she could get them an autograph from Stuart and much to Avery’s annoyance, others came to ask for help in getting Valentina autographs.
Though she had simply smiled and accepted their requests with a perfunctory ’I will try as much as I can’, Avery had no intention of helping them ask Valentina for autographs.
When the last of them finally left her table, she let out a loud sigh and stood from the comfy chair. She hurriedly packed her books into the backpack, deciding to zip it on her way out, when she caught sight of Alice by the door.
"Fuck. When does this ever end?" Avery muttered beneath her breath. Her inner thoughts as she approached Alice, contrasting sharply to the bright smile on her face, "Hi, Alice! Been a while."
"Two complete weeks," Alice pointed out, her wide smile showcasing her perfect set of white teeth. As soon as Avery got to her, she slipped her arm into hers and pulled her out of the crowdy lecture hall, saying, "Let’s go to a secluded place, please. I don’t have the strength to sign another autograph today."
"Another autograph?" Avery’s echoed, curiosity evident in her eyes. "Have you signed a lot today?"
"Countless!" Alice corrected, the word coming out in a small cry.
"I thought that phase should have passed. Today’s not the first time the students are seeing you...right?" Avery stated her observations, "The other day, you came to the hall to invite us to RNW but no one disturbed you."
Alice nodded, "That’s because my bodyguards were standing by the doorway. I asked them to take a few hours off today and that’s the reason I’m currently suffering." She turned around a corner that had few students passing by and continued to lead the way down the path, until they got to a small cafe.
"How are you doing by the way? The news blew up about your resemblance with Avery McCallum; are you okay?" she asked, as she pushed open the door and a bell rang in the distance.
Avery shrugged, feigning nonchalance while taking a quick glance at her watch.
’30 minutes left,’ she noted inwardly. Avery wasn’t supposed to be here, as she had planned to ’accidentally’ run into Charlotte Ross on her way home. But there was also no way she was leaving now. Alice had a good reputation she could benefit from, and the Shermans owned the agency Archie signed her with.
It was obvious from all angles that she had to keep on good terms with Alice.
"Look at that. I knew those hate comments were brutal," Alice’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"No, it’s alright. I could manage."
"Really?" Alice questioned, and when she got a nod in reply, she relaxed.
They took their seats at one corner of the cafe, placed their orders and continued their conversations while waiting for it.
"Really," Avery affirmed, "I refrained from logging in on any of my social media accounts so I’m guessing that’s the only reason I’m alright now that it has died down. The hate comments...I understand it. Everyone is expected to hate a murderer, after all."
Avery was expecting instant agreement with her last few words from Alice, so she was totally shocked when the latter leaned forward and shook her head.
"So sorry, Ava. I might hate other murderers but I can’t bring myself to hate Avery McCallum. It’s just... I don’t hate her but I also don’t like her," Alice confessed.
"What...does that mean?" Unable to hide her confusion, Avery stuttered. When the reply didn’t come as early as she wanted, she guessed, "Don’t tell me you can’t believe Avery McCallum murdered her family."
"That’s one..." Alice nodded, "But that’s not the actual reason. I don’t know why too. Maybe it has to do with me not knowing her or any of the people she reportedly killed. The day it was announced, breaking news kept dropping one after the other. We didn’t know what to believe and what not. We didn’t see the bodies of any of the four people that died. I know it’s strange but that’s just how I am," she laughed, a dry one.
Avery stared at her, speechless and even more confused than she was earlier.
"Now don’t look at me that way. I’m not a weird person; just different, I guess," Alice stated. She leaned forward again, her eyes twinkling with mischief as she continued, "But you know why I also don’t like her?"
"Why?" Ava asked immediately. She had followed Alice here just for formalities but here she was, starting to enjoy their weird conversation.
"Because..." Alice lowered her voice into a tiny whisper before replying, "I thought if she wanted to murder her family members, why didn’t she put Valentina at the top of the list?"
"What?!" Avery asked, her voice holding a tinge of disbelief.
"I mean..." Alice proceeded to explain, "I don’t know who were the other family members she killed and what their behaviors were. But I think no matter how bad they were,, none could have been as worse as Valentina. Avery McCallum should have started the wipeout with that leech and contributed to cleansing scums off the face of this earth!"
