Chapter 93: Playboy With Standards
Chapter 93: Playboy With Standards
Stuart stared at her in disbelief, his lips twitching slightly as if he was trying to work out what to say. When he finally spoke, disbelief was evident in his voice.
"Really? You both give off the same aura while acting. So much that i’d completely believe if you tell me right now that you had the same acting tutor as her."
"I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment or not," Avery shrugged it off. She and Emma did have the same tutor and attended the same academy, but Emma had gotten the tutor’s entire focus since everyone thought she liked acting more.
"It’s a compliment," Stuart stated.
"Thank you then."
Stuart gave a small nod, hesitating to say more. Rubbing his hand against his lower lip like that would help him work up the courage to speak, he cleared his throat.
"I also have some corrections to make. I didn’t want to say this before as from what I heard, it’s your first time on real set. But I thought that with your first time being almost perfect, telling you earlier would go a long way," he said, his words coming out in a rush. "It’s alright if you don’t want to hear though."
Avery furrowed her brows at him, intentionally pretending as if she found his words suspicious. Tapping Jodi beside her, she whispered in a voice loud enough for Stuart to hear,
"You think I should hear the corrections he has to make?"
"I don’t think so. Why would an esteemed senior in the industry even bother speaking to us, talk less of pointing out our mistakes?" Jodi whispered back. She was speaking the truth. Avery might be totally unaware—just like she had no idea about Stuart’s playboy romors—but the A-list actor was known to keep to himself on set, and immediately shoots was over, leave the location.
It was the reason why the man had countless projects with Emma McCAllum, as the B-list actress was the only colleague he was known to act informal with, both on set and off set. Their chemistry was also super awesome, as both audience and critics always testified.
Jodi continued, "Except he has an ulterior motive. You don’t think he will ask you to pay him right, Ava?" she joked.
"Of course not. He should know I don’t have anything to offer or I won’t be here as a slightly privileged extra," Avery replied, with the same teasing lilt in her voice as the latter.
"Alright," Stuart interjected, halting the not so secret discussion they was going back and forth between the two ladies, "You two can stop talking about me like I’m not here." He totally got the message they were trying to pass across; ’we aren’t interested if you’re trying to flirt’. He was a man for the women after all, and he had all rejection tactics stored at the back of his mind.
Just that now, he really wasn’t trying to take any of them to bed. For now, at least. He shook his head slightly to clear his head of stray thoughts, "Your voices were loud enough for me to hear."
"Oh, you heard that?" Avery cupped her hand over her mouth, mock surprise vividly expressed on her face.
"Guess we weren’t as discreet as we thought then," Jodi chuckled.
Stuart ran a nervous hand through his brown hair, clearing his throat for the second time in minutes.
"Now that you know I’m not doing this with any ulterior motive in mind, do you want to hear the corrections?" he asked.
Avery shook her head, "Not yet. I don’t believe you want to do this just because... nothing. I think there has to be a particular reason."
"If you must know then," Stuart sighed, "I have a selfish reason for doing this."
"Bingo! That’s what we need to know," Jodi chimed in.
"I don’t mind telling you but... I really don’t think Ava would want to hear. She’s probably tired of hearing anything that has to do with that name now," Stuart replied.
Avery’s heart spiked, her hands which had been resting idle beside her few seconds ago, now gripping her coat tightly. She pretended to think for a few seconds more before saying,
"If it’s about the family my murderer lookalike came from, then you can tell me. Maybe knowing more about them would help me avoid situations like today," she said, adding after a short pause, "Like Valentina said there was a creepy air around me because I glared at her, I could find a way to change the way I glare at people."
"Oh please," Jodi hissed, rolling her eyes, "If she hasn’t completely forgotten what happened with her family like she said, why is she here on set then? Asides that, she does a bunch of live streams where she does nothing but shop, eat and go on mini vacations with her dead cousin’s card. I know I shouldn’t downplay her grief just because she seems happy but still... I can’t explain why she seems to be an hypocrite after the issue with your similar dresses earlier today."
Avery stayed silent and no one else spoke. The silence between them, broken by the occasional sounds of the waves lapping against the shores, soon ended when a thought popped in Avery’s mind.
"Stuart," she called, prompting him to turn his head towards her, "You are the lead actor. Shouldn’t you be with them in the tent? You and Valentina need to spend enough time together so chemistry can be cultivated, if that’s the right expression."
"I am Stuart Salvador. I wouldn’t be this great if I had to spend time with each leads to enable sparks between us both. At most, we might just need a night together," Stuart said.
"A night..." Avery murmured, her tone holding a subtle meaning that was well obvious to the others, "Will you have to spend a night with Valentina tonight? Or perhaps... you two already spent the night together?"
"Nah," Stuart shook his head. "I might be a playboy but I have standards. There’s also a pyramid of my standards and at the top...do you want to see who is there?"
"If we won’t be prying!" Jodi exclaimed, before Avery could say anything.
