Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 85: Perfect Time To Arrive.
Chapter 85: Perfect Time To Arrive.
The taxi had stopped for a while now but the ladies remained in the back seat, staring at each other as if they were speaking through their eyes.
The driver, sitting in front, hesitated to break the silence to tell them they had arrived at their destination. But just when he summoned the courage to do it, one of the ladies—the blonde haired one—beat him to it.
"Do you have the elevator card with you?" she asked.
"In my backpack."
"Your script book?"
"That’s in my backpack too. I wouldn’t leave that at home."
"Flat sandals or slippers?"
"Those too. They’re in my backpack."
A relieved sigh, then..."Finally, your brothers-in-law?"
"In my backp—No! I left them back at home with Nancy. She promised to drop them off at the daycare on her way out. Are we good to go now?"
"I guess so," came the bland reply.
Then they broke eye contact and pushed the door open from each of their sides, stepping out of the car with a broad smile, albeit fake. They had arrived at the set minutes ago in the taxi and were supposed to alight, but Jodi had chosen that exact time to ask Avery if she had all the kits to make her comfortable throughout the day. The both of them weren’t to be represented by the agencies for the meantime, so they had to take care of themselves all through.
"Thank you," Jodi appreciated as she paid the driver. She watched the car drive off for a few more seconds, before turning to Avery. "Are you ready now? Most of them might want to ask sensitive questions concerning what happened through the past two weeks; there might even be reporters waiting there, are you sure you’ll be okay?"
"I will," Avery nodded, determination flickering in her eyes. The only part she might find hard to handle was if her past identity was being insulted by the reporters. Apart from that, she was sure she’d be able to handle the rest.
"If you say so. I’ll be around if you need me," Jodi assured her, while patting her gently at her back. "Let’s go."

The sun-kissed beach pulsed with the vibrant energy of a summer party. Soft golden sand stretched along the shoreline, lined with swaying palm trees and colorful beach umbrellas that dotted the landscape like a rainbow-hued patchwork quilt. The sound of laughter and music filled the air, mingling with the sweet scent of coconut sunscreen and the salty ocean breeze. Beach-goers lounged on sun-kissed loungers or played in the waves, their joy infectious as they soaked up the sun’s warm rays.
The location for the day’s shoot was a beach, since the scene they would be acting out was a beach party, a dramatic one. It was a very important scene as that was where the female lead and male lead met again after the 3 years they’d spent apart from each other.
Avery was representing the male lead’s fling for the night while Jodi, was standing in as his best friend who accompanied him to the party as a date.
"If it wasn’t for those cameras, jeez. This place would have been perfect for me to relax," Jodi spoke up, tilting her chin in the direction of the strategically placed cameras around the area.
A nervous laugh escaped Avery’s lips, her hand tightening around Jodi’s and eliciting a quick glance from the latter.
"What’s wrong, Ava? Are you alright?"
"I am," Avery nodded. "It’s just...I was wondering how your first professional shoot was, considering how relaxed you seem here."
Jodi laughed out loud, the corners of her eyes crinkling in amusement.
"I won’t ask if you are being serious right now because ’seem’ is the right word. Trust me, Ava, I’m far from relaxed but it’s just that I’ve learned being nervous or anxious doesn’t solve anything," she stated. "So I try as much as possible to assure myself everything would be alright. You can try it too; it’d definitely work."
As they walked along the shore with hands linked together, Avery responded, "I’m guessing it has to do with the time we arrived here. It’s already 11’am and the sun is up. We shouldn’t have gone dropped by at school."
"What were you expecting, Ava?" Jodi rolled her eyes. "Shooting will commence 1’pm. Were we to have arrived by 7’am only to join the team in setting the props, huh? We arrived at the perfect time!"
"I don’t think—"
"Miss Donovan?" a loud yell interrupted Avery, and she lifted her head to see the director jogging towards her with a waving hand above his head.
"Should I be scared that he’s coming to meet me when it should be the opposite?" she whispered.
"I don’t think so," an answering whisper came. "If you squint your eyes, you’d see that he actually has a smile on his face. So I say rest your nerves."
There was another yell just before Leroy got to them, "Miss Sinclair!"
And this time, both Avery and Jodi knew not to fear since the smile on his face was clear now.
"Good afternoon, Manager James," Avery greeted, her words echoed by Jodi as soon as he got to them.
"It’s surely a great one," Leroy agreed. "I’m particularly excited about your presence today, Miss Donovan. You can’t imagine how relieved I was when I saw the news earlier today."
"Same here," Avery returned, reciprocating his smile with a genuine one of her own. Even though she hadn’t seen the news, she was still relieved, "I’m glad you still wish to have me on the team."
"Actually, it’d be stupid of us to swap you out when you are just the perfect fit we were searching for. That aside, the waves your name made on the internet these past few days would serve as good publicity for our movie," he said. When Avery eyes shrouded with confusion, he quickly added, "If you don’t mind, of course."
Avery blinked at him, the email she received from the assistant earlier that day appearing in her mind eye. She had been asked to suck up to people...that meant she couldn’t refuse requests, right?
"I don’t mind," she replied. "After all, I’ll also benefit from the movie’s popularity."
