Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 84: Plan For The Day.

Chapter 84: Plan For The Day.

"Oh my god, finally!" Avery yelled out loud in excitement, her eyes glued to the phone as she read the few lines of instruction in the email that had been sent to her.

She couldn’t be bothered by the fact that Nancy was downstairs in the kitchen right now, and that the older woman would think something was wrong with her for screaming that loud. She was just too happy to think about that.

Few minutes ago, the email she had been diligently waiting for for the past few days had finally arrived. It contained the go-ahead for her to continue living her life as she used to, from the assistant that was assigned to her by the Sherman Agency to combat and manipulate the results of the recent social media uproar about the similarities between Ava Donovan and Avery McCallum. And she had translated the meaning of the email to be... now that everything seemed to have been settled completely, she was free!

"Don’t just be of your best behavior; instead, go out of your way to help people on set today. Even if anyone wants to pick fights with you, let them have their way. We can’t afford to manage another round of unnecessary media attention and bad image," she read the message out loud, her smile growing broader the more words she read.

If it was any other day, Avery would probably be displeased that she had to suck up to people for no reason at all. But not today. She was finally leaving the house after two weeks of cooping herself up in here, and she was not just going anywhere, she was going on set! She would enjoy herself on one hand, and on the other hand, she would provoke Valentina for the second time.

Could a day look any more promising than this one?

"Miss Ava, are you okay?!" Nancy’s apprehensive voice flitted up the stairs, taking down Avery’s excitement by a few notches.

"I’m okay, Nancy!" she called back. Her hands flew across the screen of her phone as she placed a call to Jodi, and as if the latter had been waiting for it, the call connected almost immediately.

"Morning, Ava! I was just about to call you. You won’t believe what I’m seeing right now!"

"And you also won’t believe what I just saw. I got the approval to leave!" Avery gushed with utmost excitement. She could basically hear the confusion in Jodi’s voice when she asked,

"The approval to leave? From where and to where?" Without sparing a second to hear Avery’s answer, she continued, "If it’s about the recent misunderstandings with the press, then you don’t have to leave. It was in the news this morning."

"What was—Don’t tell me there was something else about me?!" Even though she hadn’t heard the answer, Avery could already feel her earlier excitement dwindling gradually. She could not afford to miss today’s shoot, especially not when the chances of her getting another gig soon was close to impossible.

She had to show her skills now and create another headline that could overshadow the one about her similarities with Avery McCallum.

Her similarities with herself. How stupid did that sound?

"No, that’s not it," Jodi’s small laugh broke into her thoughts, jolting her. "I meant the opposite actually. The stuff about you was cleared by all major press stations earlier today; Don’t you watch TV at all?"

"They forbade me from watching it."

"Ah... that’s true. So what is it now? Am I to stop by at the penthouse?"

"I’ll be waiting," Avery stated, "I’m almost done dressing up but..."

"What?" Jodi asked, when she was quiet for more than three seconds.

There was a loud sigh before Avery replied, "I don’t know what would be appropriate to wear. I’m used to wearing formal clothings alone but that would be inappropriate for today. Do you have any suggestions?"

"You asked the right person," Jodi replied, her voice holding a hint of fake smugness. "Wait for my message. I’ll send a few suggestions and you can chose the one you like best."

"Alright, will be waiting. And thank you."

"You’re welcome. I’ll hang up—"

"Wait!" Avery interrupted her all of a sudden.

"Omg, Ava, what happened? Why yell when you can just stop me gently?"

Avery ignored the question and went straight to what she had suddenly remembered when she stopped Jodi from hanging up.

"I forgot to ask. You said all major press stations cleared my identity earlier today, how did they do that?"

"You have a phone, Ava. And you are allowed to use it now," Jodi sighed, "You can just check it out yourself. I’m hanging up now so I can get ready and," her voice turned fierce, "don’t you dare stop me!"

Beep!

Avery dropped the phone on her study table, letting her gaze linger on it for seconds more than necessary as if it was a surprise gift bag. She wasn’t sure if searching out the news would improve her mood this morning or dampen it instead, so she was restraining herself from doing it.

Better safe than sorry.

She turned to hurry out of the room, while skimming over her schedule for the day in the back of her mind. She had to feed Lake and Thorne, hurry to school together with Jodi as it was a while since she’d been there, get to the location for the shoot and if she had time after that, return to campus for an evening study class or tutorial so as to cover what she missed during the two weeks she was absent.

What else...? Yes! She had to find a way to visit the McCallum headquarters building. Even if she would only be able to stay outside and stare at it from a distance, she had a feeling she would be able to guess how things were going with just that.

"2 weeks were wasted, Avery. You don’t have much time left," she reminded herself.
