Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 81: Weakling.

Chapter 81: Weakling.

"Your attention is needed in room 12," Avery informed the first attendant she saw at the bar, just as she had promised Emma.

She waited until she got a positive response, before turning away from the bar. Pressing her lips into a thin line, she swept her eyes around the room in search of Archie.

To apologize.

Even though it would be pretty much useless at this point, she still wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she didn’t do this. She had unintentionally robbed him of money, his efforts, and his reputation just so she could avenge his telling Assistant Mia of her relationship.

"Shit! I’m so fucked up," she muttered to herself, an exasperated sigh escaping her lips. Why did this always happen whenever it was her turn to throw a tantrum?

Everyone else did it and it would be totally fine but when it came to her, things always escalated until they went beyond measure and resulted in insults being sent her way.

"Are you waiting for someone here, Ma’am?"

Avery turned abruptly at the sudden question from a passing waiter, nodding her head slightly.

"Did you see a tall man with glasses on and uh..." she trailed off, trying to remember anything else she could use to describe Archie without mentioning his handsome face, but words failed her. She couldn’t even remember what color or kind of clothes he had on earlier, as she had been so fixated on their argument while trying to restrain herself from getting distracted by his presence.

The waiter smiled, "A tall man wearing glasses. Do you have his name?"

She opened her mouth to answer him, but decided against it in the last minute. She had planned to make their meeting look like an accidental one, and having a waiter she who she was searching for was definitely not going to help her in any way.

"You know what? Never mind. I can just look around on my own," she said, "Thank you."

The waiter bowed slightly and turned to leave, leaving her alone to continue her fruitless search. Minutes later, she had rounded all corners of the inner restaurant and had now proceeded to the outer restaurant which she was used to.

"He didn’t leave us here, right?" she began to mutter, when her eyes caught the familiar raven black hair at the end of the hallway.

She cast a quick glance to make sure the hallway was empty and when that was confirmed, began to tiptoe her way towards Archie. As she neared him, she noticed he was standing in front of a private room—though not as luxurious as the one on the innermost part of the restaurant—whose door was slightly ajar.

"Hey," she whispered as soon as she got behind him and was shocked when he raised his hand up, as if signaling for her to keep her mouth shut.

She opened her mouth to start another conversation when a loud voice filtered out of the room they were standing in front of.

The voice, Avery noticed, sounded familiar to her for some reason.

"I have seen him only one or twice but we didn’t really talk much because I considered him far superior to my family," the voice said. "But now that his company is kinda having problems, what do you think he needs most?"

Avery’s head whipped around, recognizing the person inside the room immediately. Valentina. And the girls surrounding the latter, she recognized them to be her friends.

"Why are you watching—"

This time around, Archie didn’t only signal her to stop talking, he turned towards her with a sharp glare that sent the exact same message.

Inside the room, Valentina continued speaking, completely oblivious to the fact that what she thought was a private conversation with her friends had now turned public.

"Someone guess, what do you think he needs most?"

A mischievous smirk on her face, one of the other girls in the room replied Valentina, "If I am to guess, I’ll say he needs some comfort in form of a lady who has good back-up as family and can also help him forget the troubles of the day through a steamy night together. Omg, Val! You’re so lucky to have met Archibald Donovan!"

Archie? Avery’s eyes flickered with surprise, turning her head to meet the gaze of the man beside her. So he had been standing here because he was eavesdropping on them talking about him?

"A—" she cut herself off, when she heard her cousin start talking again.

"Luck isn’t associated with this in any way," Valentina muttered, her voice bearing a hint of smugness when she added, "He’s acquainted with my cousin Arthur so I’m sure if I put my heart to it, I can definitely get to meet him. And if I meet him..."

"You are definitely going to conquer the weakling of a man with your girl power!" the other girls chorused.

Outside, Avery watched the ongoing conversation with jaws slacked in shock. From the way Valentina and her friends discussed just now—considering their chorus and all—it was more than obvious that this wasn’t the first time they were having such a conversation.

But did it have to be about Archie?! Valentina and her friends dared refer to him as a weakling of a man?!

She had to snap out of her thoughts when Archie pulled her away from the door.

"Aren’t you shocked?" he asked, "I featured in a gossipy discussion among those girls, and my name was mentioned in a negative—"

"Don’t take them serious," Avery interjected, forcing a small laugh. "Like you said, it’s just a normal conversation among girl."

Archie shook his head.

"It’s not. And maybe if they had stopped earlier, they would not have annoyed me to this extent," he stated, retrieving his phone from his pocket.

He took a few steps away from Avery and placed a call, speaking immediately the call connected without bothering to lower his voice,

"Luca?"

The affirmative answer from the other end spurred him to continue, "Leeds restaurant. Valentina McCAllum and some girls came in minutes ago, I guess, considering their meals haven’t been served. You can find their identities, right?"

"Hey!" Avery whisper-yelled from behind him, though she still maintained a distance from him. "What are you doing?"

"Showing them how weak I am," Archie replied in a bored tone.
