Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 75: Kissable Lips.
Chapter 75: Kissable Lips.
"I don’t care."
Archie shrugged with obvious nonchalance.
"Doesn’t matter. I’ll say it anyway," he smirked. "Whenever you say the f word, your lips look like they are begging to be kissed."
"What...what the hell did you just say?"
"Exactly what you heard," Archie deadpanned. He had dropped the fountain pen in his hand few seconds ago and his blue eyes were now boring straight into Avery’s brown ones.
While she stayed quiet, stumbling upon words to use as a perfect comeback at what he said, Archie rose from his seat and took out a face mirror from God knows where.
He placed it before her so she could see the reflection of her face.
"Repeat the word ’fuck’ and you’ll see I was right," he requested, schooling his face into a persuasive expression.
Avery closed her eyes and shut it tight, forcing herself to inhale short rasps of breath for the next few seconds. She wasn’t the one to be murdered here today; Archie was.
When she finally opened her eyes, both he and the mirror were still there.
"I am not here to entertain you, Archie. Can we please talk like normal humans?"
"Were we talking like aliens before this?"
Avery released a loud sigh. He was after her mental health; she was sure of it now. But there was no way she was letting him frustrate her and bask in the amusement the aftermath would bring him.
Whether he liked it or not, she was directing today’s conversation.
"Why did you tell my grandfather’s assistant about my relationship with Brian?" she asked.
"Who told you I did?" He blinked, and for a moment, Avery was almost convinced he was innocent.
However, she was quick to stop and remind herself that was his stronghold. Deceiving people.
A mirthless chuckle escaped her lips,
"I can associate you with all sort of bad characters, but lying was definitely not one of them. Are you proving me wrong?" she asked, a sly smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
Archie narrowed his eyes at her, examining her posture and expression for a few more seconds before a smile bloomed on his face, "You didn’t come to ask if I did it, Ava. You just assumed."
"And I assumed correctly, didn’t I?" She raised her brows.
"Of course, you did. You are always right," he gave a small nod. "So are you here just to ask me to own up to snitching on you?"
Avery nodded.
"That and your apology is what I need. Then you’ll tell Assistant Riley you were only lying, and after that, you are to solve whatever problems that will be caused by this stupid public revelation. You wanted to offend me; why bring Brian into it and cause me trouble?!"
"Probably because he’s so stupid, just like you of course. A perfect match," Archie deadpanned.
"Say whatever you want," Avery shrugged, not about to let herself get affected. "I only need you to do those things I outlined!"
"I won’t do any," Archie disagreed. He placed the mirror on his desk and walked around the table to stand before her. "There’s a faster and more effective solution."
Avery squinted her eyes. "Which is?"
"Break up with him."
She scoffed, "I should have known. Your aim is to make me lonely, ain’t it? You take my brother away at times I needed him, gave my sister opportunities you know she won’t be able to turn down on specific days you know I’ll need her. It isn’t surprising that you want to take Brian away from me too."
"If you needed someone, you could have called me," Archie said, with utmost seriousness evident in his furrowed brows.
"Really? I could have called you," Her voice was laced with sarcasm. "Does all these look like a joke to you?!" she yelled. "You take every fucking thing away from me all for your own happiness and—"
"I didn’t take it all yet," Archie cut her off. He straightened, so he was towering above and peering down at her. "Want me to take it all?"
"Do your worst!" she hissed.
"You think I should?" he asked back, but Avery could not find it in herself to reply immediately.
She opened her mouth but no words came out. His eyes...heated and glowing, were challenging her to say a word. To spur him on and see what he would do. But as much as she wanted to do exactly that, the charged atmosphere warned her not to.
"I really don’t think you would like that," he continued in a whisper, leaning down so their faces were just a few inches from each other. He was staring straight into her eyes as if that was where her answer was, where he was getting her real answers from.
"Now..." he drawled, "I think you would like it. Your eyes seem—"
"Shut your mouth," Avery cut him off as she stepped away from him, breaking the momentary spell that had hung in the air previously. "You seem to be after everything that makes me happy, aren’t you?"
He didn’t give an answer so she continued, "Then don’t blame me when I destroy things that make you happy too."
With that, she reached over to pick up one of the files he had been reading earlier. Holding his sharp eyes with her bright, angry ones, she tore the papers into shreds and flung it over his desk.
"Do your worst! And don’t forget, hurt me and my brother will fucking make you pay!"
"Ava..." Archie called, his deep and husky voice complimenting the flames of fury in his voice and making it seem like he dragged the name out of the dredges of his chest.
"Yes? I won’t apologize too since my apology won’t glue those papers back. That’s your theory, isn’t it?" she questioned. And when she saw his small nod, declared, "I fucking hate you!"
She turned and stormed out of the office, completely turning a blind eye to the silver haired man that walked right past her into the room.
