Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 72: Causing Trouble.

Chapter 72: Causing Trouble.

Sucking in a deep breath to calm herself down, Avery turned and walked back to her.

"I’m listening," she said through gritted teeth.

"As you should," Mia smiled. Pretending not to notice the reluctance Avery was showing as regards helping her, she instructed, "There’s a bouquet of flower and a gift box on the desk in my office. Drop it off at Young Master Arthur’s friend office."

"Arthur’s friend?" Avery echoed, her brows raised in questioning arches. Not only was she confused as to why she was being asked to drop off a gift for one of brother’s multiple friends, most of whom she had never met, but she was more confused as to the reason Mia wanted to gift the friend. There was only one explanation there could be for that. "Is this an official business?"

"It’s personal," came the nonchalant response.

"Personal?" Avery echoed. "You have a personal...deal with one of my brother’s friend and you want me to help you deliver a gift to him. If I must, can I know what kind of deal you had with him?" she asked. As far as Avery was concerned, Mia Riley was one woman who was never known to mind her business. Few minutes ago, she had mentioned her relationship with Brian in public, indirectly trying to pressure her into breaking up with him. It wasn’t a far fetched idea to think she was trying to set her up with the person she was referring to as Arthur’s friend.

Mia’s face contorted in displeasure at the firm tone Avery was using.

"We are in the office, Avery. I am your superior!" she reminded her, to which the younger woman could not help but roll her eyes.

"Mrs Riley, we are in the office but you’re sending me to help drop something off at my brother’s friend office. If it was professional, I would have no problem gifts to a business partner but this is personal," Avery said. Without waiting for an answer, she added, "I think I have the right to know."

"You mean to say I am only superior to you within office walls?" Mia countered.

’What the hell is this woman thinking?’ Avery thought as she shook her head and replied out loud, "That’s not it, Mrs Riley."

"It better be so," Mia said. "I don’t mind telling you why I am gifting the man though; since the reason I’m sending you there is so you can thank him for saving you from potential destruction. He’s the one who informed me of your immoral relationship with The Walker group scion."

The shock that awashed Avery at that very moment was replaced by anger in a few seconds, as her mind went straight to Arthur’s only friend—his best friend—who knew she was dating Brian.

Archie Donovan.

The man, though older than her by years, seemed to be on a mission to irk her, like a child chasing for a source of amusement and who didn’t care about other’s feelings as long as he got his own happiness. It wasn’t at all surprising that he turned out to be the one who told Mia about her relationship with Brian, since she had gotten into a quarrel with him during the previous week when she found out he was the one who now owned the car she had been aiming to get for Arthur’s birthday.

When she asked why he bought the car even though he was well aware she had wanted it too, his simple answer had been,

"Why do you think?"

Could that even be regarded an answer?

Avery was further convinced Archie Donovan was the snitch, as that would explain why Mia wanted to gift the man who had told her such ordinary information. Her aim was to get in the favor of one of the most powerful men in the country without being obvious. That, and the fear of being turned away without seeing him, contributed to the reason why Avery was the one she sent to deliver the gifts.

A quick glance at her watch, she gave a curt bow to Mia.

"It’s just a few minutes to closing, Ma’am. If I am to meet Arthur’s friend at his workplace, I have to leave now."

Without waiting for approval, she turned swiftly on her heels and headed towards the elevator doors without picking up the gifts she was supposed to deliver or stopping by at her cubicle to take her bag.

’Wasn’t I sent to deliver a gratitude message? I will definitely make sure the one to accept it is utterly satisfied,’ she said in her mind, her eyes flickering with determination.

Behind her, Mia called, "Won’t you get the address and name of the person? And the gifts?!"

But Avery was far too gone to hear her.

"Nonsense," Mia hissed. "Will she be wise enough to know i was referring to her cousin Roberts as her brother’s friend?"

She turned and headed back to her office, a low sigh escaping her lips. When the hell would she get accustomed to her habits of referring to her boss’s adopted son and grandchildren as such, and stop referring to them as friends?

It didn’t take long for Avery to arrive at the headquarters of A² Corporation as it was located just a few kilometers away from The McCallum Group’s. As she had driven her car there, the journey didn’t last long and within 45 minutes after leaving her workplace, she was pulling up at the underground garage.

With the burning need to cause trouble running through her veins, she didn’t hesitate to park her car in the most awkward way possible where she would be hindering most cars from driving out. However, she couldn’t be bothered as she recognized the group of cars she was hindering. Archie Donovan’s, his assistant’s, and a few other familiar cars that usually arrived together with him during public functions. She didn’t need anyone to tell her before knowing it was owned by other personal subordinates of his. Since their boss was the one who offended her, it shouldn’t hurt to let them suffer with him, right?

’I won’t be staying up for longer than ten minutes anyways,’ she reassured herself inwardly, trying to erase the guilt that was creeping over her skin. ’I am not an evil and vengeful person. I’m simply trying to stand up for myself and avoid being bullied.’

No, you aren’t. You are simply evil,’ a voice in her head argued.
