Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 55: Idiotic Brother.

Chapter 55: Idiotic Brother.

Few Minutes Ago

"Isn’t that Mr James?" Valentina asked, pointing at the retreating backs of James and Avery who were further down the hallway from her.

"I believe so. I think he came to check if you were in the dressing room," her assistant replied from behind her.

Knowing her assistant was trying to tell her she was late in a subtle manner, Valentina ignored her and continued with her questions, "Who’s that with him? She looks familiar but I can’t point out where I’ve seen her. Is she an actress?"

"I don’t think so, Miss Valentina. I’ve not seen an actress with hair as long that long in our agency. She might be one of the cast members for Broken Hearts though," the assistant replied, trying as much as she could to disguise her dislike for the lady walking in front of her. Even with the knowledge that it was not this lady’s fault that Emma, her former boss died, the assistant could not help her dislike for her.

Who wouldn’t hate someone as snarky and demanding as Valentina?

"Are you trying to say my hair isn’t long enough?"

"Of course not, Miss Valentina. Long hair doesn’t determine beauty," the assistant replied. Quickening her steps so she could get to the door before Valentina, she pushed the door open for her, "Will you leave for the conference hall after resting for a few minutes?"

"I will leave after changing. I feel like there will be a lot of actresses wearing this designer brand today and I can’t afford to look any less expensive," Valentina replied, her lips curling into a proud smile.

She stepped into the room, heading straight to the mirror so she could get a good look at herself. The assistant was right. Long hair didn’t determine beauty and she, with her shoulder length hair, would be the prettiest actress in there today.

"There’s no way they would cast an actress prettier than the female lead anyway," she assured herself. "Tilly, get me that dress my cousin got from FBB. The blue one. I’d like to change into that now," she instructed. "And do not bother calling the make-up artist, I had one on from home so it’s..." Valentina trailed off as she caught sight of the magazine’s torn out page.

"What is this, Tilly? Did you put it here?" she asked, but received no answer as the person she was addressing had gone to carry out her orders.

She picked it up with the aim of scanning the page but her eyes stopped at the top, taking in the large bold texts that served as the heading of the article.

There was, ’McCAllum SISTERS: EMMA and AVERY’S DOMINANCE’ and right beside those in smaller texts, her own name was scribbled.

Her hand shook as all memories of this article and the incidents surrounding it came rushing into her mind. She had been angry on the day it was released and had intentionally complained— when she knew Grandfather McCAllum was within earshot— that she was feeling left out of the family because her name had not been added to the article.

Soon after her complaint, the article was banned and people thought it was because the McCAllum sisters didn’t like that they were being compared in that article. No one truly knew it was because of her so who...who sent this?!

She ran her eyes over the article for any other strange additions and when she found three lines of text at the bottom of the page, she went ahead to read it. The first paragraph of the article had talked extensively about Emma and her achievements, the second had been about Avery and her achievements while this last three lines which had never been there stated,

’Not disregarding the achievements of the the McCAllum sisters stated above, I would like to say their cousin sister also achieved an enormous feat. What is it, you ask? She murdered them!’

Valentina’s hands began to shake faster, but she didn’t drop the magazine.

"This is all shit!" she growled. "It might be Roberts. The idiot might be pranking me! Does he think this is funny?"

Fuming, she placed her hand at opposite edges and tore the page into shreds as she walked to the trashcan to discard it. However, she stopped herself at the last minute, deciding to pour the pieces into the small compartment at the side of her bag.

"I will show Mom this. They have to warn Roberts against throwing expensive pranks like this," she mused. Her stupid brother had successfully tampered with her mood and now, she was in no mood to dress up.

"Forget about it, Tilly. Let’s not keep Mr James waiting," she called out loud and walked out of the dressing room.

Pulling a chair out, Avery was about to take her seat when the door opened and her very familiar ex-cousin waltzed in.

"The leads are finally here. Means there’s hope of leaving early," she heard Jodi whisper and turned to face her. "Can I swap seats with you, Jodi?"

"Swap seats? Why?"

"I’m nervous and can’t help but feel like there are numerous eyes on me. Your seat is hidden from most of the people in the room so it would be much more comfortable," Avery replied.

Jodi nodded in understanding and stood.

"I understand. My first script reading had my nerves in a wreck at the presence of countless big shots in the room with me. What I find hard to understand now is why Archibald Donovan’s wife is nervous in the presence of mere actresses," she joked, moving aside to take Avery’s seat.

"Archibald Donovan’s wife or not, I am just a small fry in the acting industry so it’s totally normal to be nervous in the presence of my seniors," Avery argued.

"Well, I guess that’s acceptable."

While Jodi went back to reading her script after her small banter with Avery, the latter committed her attention to watching Valentina and the few cast members who had crowded around her to greet her.

’Interesting,’ she muttered, settling down to study Valentina’s expression.
