Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 48: Another Woman.
Chapter 48: Another Woman.
"Why should I wait when we could share the ride?" Jodi questioned. From what she could see, there was space enough in the car for three more people as long as they had the same physique as her.
"Just leave when I tell you to, Jo please!"
Hearing that, Jodi felt a strange sense of deja Vu wash over her. These were the exact same words he had used then but her stubbornness had made her refuse, thereby placing them both in the peculiar situation they were currently in.
However, that did not mean she was going to back down now. She had not regretted her actions then and now, she would do the same.
"Did something happen, Neil? Are you okay?"
"I am not, Jo. But I will feel much better in your absence so–"
Jodi cut him off, her eyes glinting in realization, "You were drugged."
He didn’t reply and that only confirmed her words.
"If you were drugged, why are you asking me to leave then? Won’t I be of help to you?"
Staring at her like she had grown horns on her head, Neil gritted his teeth in annoyance.
"That’s the point, Jodi. Are you ready to help me out? Riding in the same car with me won’t be helping me but making things hard for me instead!" he stated.
"Why would you think I’m not ready to help you?" Jodi deadpanned. "I could help you make a call to some of the girls on your contact list and surely, one of them would be willing to relieve you for the night with—"
"Keep your suggestions to yourself, Jodi," he interjected, shutting his eyes tightly as discomfort etched on his brows. He continued, "If you can’t help me yourself, then just forget it. A driver will pick you up in five minutes." He gently pushed her back and tried to pull the door shut but she was faster than he was and held the door open.
"I–You know I can’t help you, Neil. I...I am not...I don’t think I can," she stuttered all through her short refusal, making sure to avoid his eyes as she talked.
"I wouldn’t want you to either. Disrespecting you once is more than enough for a lifetime," Neil replied. When he made to shut the door this time around, Jodi willingly moved back. It was probably out of shock or cowardice, but whichever it was, she was only able to say one more sentence before the car drove off.
"Don’t go to another woman."

’This would have fitted Emma perfectly,’ Avery thought as she lowered her gaze to her dress for the umpteenth time that night.
It was the thought that had crossed her mind the moment she saw the dress hanging in the closet earlier that day and that had prompted her to chose it, disregarding the fact that it was very provocative and much more exposing than the dresses she was used to wearing.
She fished out the elevator card from the small bag she was carrying, but wasn’t able to find it before the doors opened, revealing Archie standing in there.
"Arch–"
"Get in," he ordered, his deep voice husky with desire.
She obeyed, her sense of wariness growing with each nanosecond that passed.
"Why did you ignore me while we were—"
His lips descended on hers, forcefully burying the words she had meant to say and erasing it from her mind.
"You were supposed to stay there..." was all Avery managed to hear him whisper, as her back hit the cold wall of the elevator.
While the kiss sent her gasping for breath, Avery felt his finger trailing up her arm to stop at her shoulders. Her brain already muddled with desire was still able to register him pushing the strap down her left shoulder until it was completely off her hand and her left breast was exposed to the cold air. However, his large palm cupped her breast the very next moment, replacing the chilliness with warmth.
She moaned into his mouth, unable to fathom what kind of feeling was overcoming her entire self when his lips left hers and went down to her collarbone, sending her head backwards. He left a trail of wet kisses down her chest and the rise of her breast when–
Ding!
The sound was like a wake-up call for Avery, her eyes flying open to reveal undisguised desire. However, it was not the same for Archie who had moved away from her not because of the elevator sound but because his phone rang.
A string of curses aimed at no one in particular spilled out of his lips as he connected the call and placed it on his ear.
"Is he awake?" he asked, his brows pulling up at whatever reply he got from the other end. His eyes refused to leave Avery throughout the entire thirty seconds call while his free hand worked on lifting her strap up to its former position and covering her exposed chest.
"What...was that about?" Avery asked, the moment he dropped the phone.
Instead of answering her, he pulled her out of the elevator and bent slightly to press his lips on her nose.
"It’s late. You have to sleep and I have somewhere to be," he informed.
"But I also had—"
He interrupted, "Upstairs, Ava. I will be back so early you’d think I never left."
Since he didn’t seem the least bit interested in what she had to say, Avery decided to keep her questions to herself and obey him.
"Goodnight then," she murmured as she walked away. By the time she got to the top of the stairs and turned to see if he was still in the spot where she left him, she saw that he had disappeared. Yet she had heard no single sound of movement.
’Is he a ghost?’ she wondered.
