Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 44: Invite To The NightClub.

Chapter 44: Invite To The NightClub.

DOVE’S BUILDING.

Avery sighed, stepping into the general elevator with Jodi’s arm linked with hers.

"I really do not think we should do this, Jodi. First of all, I know absolutely nothing about her and—"

"You know nothing about her because you do not want to know," Jodi interrupted. Watching Avery punch in the button of the floor they would be getting off, she could not help but roll her eyes, "You can find every single information about Alice Sherman on the internet, as long as you search it. She’s a public figure, Ava."

"Exactly. Why would a public figure who doesn’t know anything about me except my name, suddenly invite me to a night out with her friends?" Avery exhaled out of exasperation. Alice Sherman had invited her on a night outing with her friends and just when she wanted to refuse, Jodi had interjected and told her they would think about it. She could not understand why an actress of that caliber would extend an arm of friendship to her, as early as this.

"Cause she likes Orion, wasn’t that obvious?" Jodi questioned. "She believes the best way to get to him is through you and since she now knows your career aim, she wants you two to be allies."

"How can going to a nightclub with her make us allies?"

At this point, the two friends were both frustrated, no one more than the other.

"Oh my god, Ava!" Jodi raised a finger up as if to prove an objective, "The key point here is she’s coming with her friends, more actresses. Those people, and we too of course, won’t pass an outing by without selfies and you’re definitely gonna be in one. By the end of this week, you’d have your own fans already."

"But..."

She rolled her eyes, "What harm can it do, Ava? The nightclub is at the first floor of the building where you live and it’s also a private one that cares a lot of its reputation so rest assured there won’t be any sort of foul play. What else is making you hesitate?"

"You, Jodi. You," Avery deadpanned. "If you know so much about this already, then why don’t you come with me? You could benefit from all these you told me about, and protect me as an additional privilege."

"I wasn’t invited."

"Oh no, you were. Setting aside the fact that she invited me in your presence and the invitation was automatically extended to you, you have known Orion for longer than I have. In short, she’d need your help more than mine," Avery insisted to see Jodi shake her head immediately.

"I don’t support your view one bit. Orion has a softer spot for you than for me cause tell me why he called you alone to sit in the professor’s chair when there was space enough for two?" the latter asked.

"And is that jealousy I smell? Maybe he had no idea you were also there."

"He did. We made eye contact more than once and he saw me standing too," Jodi said, a small laugh escaping her lips. "I guess he was in his professor mode then and couldn’t be bothered."

"I guess," Avery agreed.

"That’s it. Enough of anything about Orion and Alice; let’s go find dresses for you to wear."

"And for you too. There’s no time to go home and then return."

"I can’t resist that. You do have a very enticing wardrobe," Jodi joked.

At that moment, the elevator doors slid open and a group of nurses walked in, engrossed in a conversation. In an attempt to make space for the new entrances, Avery and Jodi had to press themselves against the back wall of the elevator, in the hope that the nurses would get off early.

However, it came as a surprise when the nurses got off on the exact same floor Avery was supposed to. She frowned and turned to Jodi, the surprise in her eyes mirrored in the latter’s.

"I used to think only people who are headed up to the penthouse need to take the stairs," she whispered to Jodi as they walked up the stairs, trailing behind the nurses.

"Same here. But I’m used to taking the private elevator during the few times I’ve been here so I can’t really say..." Jodi shrugged.

"That’s telling us to mind our business," Avery teased, before adding after a short while, "As long as they are minding theirs too."

RNW, also known as Red Night World, was an elite nightclub which occupied the prestigious first floor of the city’s tallest building. Its prime location and exclusive membership made it a hotspot for both thrill-seekers and savvy business professionals, who leveraged the club’s vibrant atmosphere to seal deals and entertain clients, perfectly blending pleasure and profit.

However, Archie chose the club to meet with Benedict Sherman not because of any of those reasons stated above, but because it was close to his home. He didn’t have a business deal to settle with the heir and neither did he consider him a friend to seek fun with; but for the first time in forever, he needed the fucker’s help. Even though he was supposed to be at a disadvantage since he was the one who needed help, he had still been the one to chose the place to meet.

And he had chosen RNW, with the thought that he would only be 80 floors away from his home and would be able to leave early in case anyone irritated him.

But now, seated in the most private room in the bar beside Neil and opposite Benedict, he feared he had chosen a wrong location. He should have chosen one by the countryside where no laws existed and where he would be allowed to break this idiot’s nose for ignoring his question.

"Ben, I just asked what you put in this drink!" his voice was steely, and if Avery was present, she’d discover that the cold voice he always used with her was the softest he could go.

Benedict sighed, running his hand through his hair as if to show he was utterly frustrated by what was going on here.

"This is shit, Arch," he shook his head with pity. "If I were in your shoes as the sole owner of A² Corp, I wouldn’t be such a party pooper as you are. I’d enjoy my life to the fullest since there’s no one else to chastise me for—"

Archibald slammed his book on the table and sat up, shedding off his relaxed front.

"That, was not my question, Ben. What. Was. In. That. Drink?" he asked, stressing on each and every word he spoke.

"Aphrodisiac."
