Avery's Game Of Revenge
Chapter 147: Co—Model?

Chapter 147: Co—Model?

Avery’s eyes slid down to the screen of the phone, reading the displayed message in her mind.

Mr Donovan: Angel, are you intentionally stalling so I can postpone the date? Or wait... (a smirk emoji) are you wasting time so our date can advance well into the night, all because you want a repeat of last night?

"So?" Jodi’s voice, laced with a teasing lilt, flitted into her ears. "What happened last night?"

Avery shot her a glare, her cheeks red from embarrassment as she snatched the phone and pressed on the voice message icon.

She spoke through gritted teeth, her voice not too low and not too loud, "Getting above yourself, aren’t you? Some of us are actually busy and have better things to think of, than an ordinary date and a boring last night. I won’t be coming down now. I have classes to attend. If I finish early, I might have mercy on your ass and join you on whatever unexciting date you’ve planned up. Bye... Donovan."

With a devilish grin spread on her face, she clicked on the send button and didn’t have to wait five seconds before the phone began ringing. She looked up at Jodi and asked, "Permission to move him to blacklist on your phone. You can remove it later on."

Jodi laughed, a dry one that could be expected of someone stuck in between the devil and the blue sea. She had to chose between offending the most dangerous man in the city and offending his wife, could the answer be any more obvious than it already was?

"You are going to protect me... Neil too, you’re going to protect both of us if he gets angry, right?" she asked.

Stuart chimed in, pushing himself between the two ladies.

"Who are you protecting who from? Ask me instead of asking Ava. I can do a better job—Ow!" he winced.

Together, Jodi and Avery pushed him from their midst and sent him a chilling glare that rooted him to one spot. The latter sent a reassuring smile to the former, "If he wants to direct his anger at someone, it’d be me. You and Neil have nothing to worry about," she said.

Jodi laughed, like that was the biggest joke she’d heard in her whole life.

"Just promise me. I only need your promise."

"Okay, I promise. I will protect you," Avery replied with a slight roll of the eyes.

"Then you can move his number to blacklist."

Avery disconnected the incoming call and blacklisted the number. "I’ll go change out of this," she said, returning the phone to Jodi as she headed towards the room where she’d dropped her backpack and clothes earlier that day.

"I thought we agreed to wait together!" Stuart called out after her, but Avery didn’t spare the time to reply him. Especially as she could hear Jodi already doing it on her behalf.

Shedding the bathrobe off her body, she hung it on a rack and fished out a white tank top from the backpack. Next, she pulled it over her head and slipped into the white overflowing skirt she’d worn with it. As she slipped on her sandals, she could not help but think that there was something off with her dressing. Maybe not her dressing... But there was something she took off earlier today, but wasn’t wearing now.

She brought her hands to her ears to feel her earrings, and when she found it, her mind settled the slightest bit, but not completely. Something had to be missing.

"They are almost done packing, Ava! Everyone’s leaving already!" Jodi’s voice came from outside the room.

"Coming!" Avery yelled back.

She took out her phone and switched it on, then slung her bag over her shoulders and walked out of the room. Stuart, now dressed in casual t-shirt and shorts, was standing in one corner, talking in hushed tones with one of his assistants.

"See you in a week. Can’t wait to say goodbye," she called, not wanting to distract him from what he was doing. The scenes she would be featured in were ending in one week, and as a side character—even though she was one that was treated more like a main character—she wouldn’t be required to join them for the remaining shoots, until the movie’s premiere.

Stuart, however, turned away from his assistant when he heard her voice.

"Sorry to disappoint you, but we won’t be saying goodbyes. Not after the way you acted today."

"How did I act?"

"How did she act?"

Sharing glances after asking the same question in unison, Avery and Jodi turned to Stuart, waiting for his answer. And perhaps, daring him to say she acted any less than good, judging by the challenging looks they had in eyes.

"Chill, ladies," Stuart chuckled. He turned to Ava, "And you acted well today. Your eyes and body language, they were so on point that I almost thought you really were turned on by—"

"What?!" Jodi exclaimed, while Avery averted her gaze from both of them. Not because she was shy but because of what she did to perfect that face expression and body language Stuart said was perfect.

When he slipped his hands around her waist and pressed a chaste kiss to her neck, she’d zoned out of the scene and thought of Archie doing that instead. And that was it. She got the perfect shot.

Clearing her throat, she interrupted Stuart who was now explaining to Jodi what he told her yesterday and how she seemed to have brushed up her acting on that aspect.

She said, "So? What does my ’on point’ acting have to do with us not saying goodbyes?"

"Your ’on point’ acting, that scene in particular, will qualify you for a casting audition as my co-model for an upcoming commercial ad. The fact that we have amazing chemistry, and I like you is also a bonus point, and provided you end up qualifying for the position and signing the contract, we can be voted in as the company’s brand ambassador if our shoot turns out perfect." He flashed her a smirk and continued, before she could ask any questions, "And before you ask what company we’re talking about here, I’ll ask my assistant to send you the details. I bet you won’t be able to resist when you see their names."

Eyes shining in anticipation, Jodi palmed her hand over her mouth.

"Woah! I feel left out," she joked.

"Sorry, Blondie. Doesn’t suit your image," Stuart deadpanned. He patted his assistant on the back and said, "We will leave now. I am late for an event. See you next week, Jo. And you, Ava. Send me a message when you see the mail from my assistant."

"Sure," Avery nodded absentmindedly.

As she watched the man and his assistants walk out the apartment door, she turned to Jodi.

"Did he just ask me to co-model a brand with him? With Stuart Salvador?!" The man was an actor far above their own level, and even if he had been acting more like a friend than a co actor these past few days, they’d thought it was simply an habit of his. They’d thought it was something he did to foster chemistry with his co-actors, and it had been working pretty well.

But he extended such an offer to her?!

"Yes, baby." Jodi pulled her into a mushy hug, "Congratulations in advance cause I know you’ll beat whoever it is that wants to compete with you. The only downside here is that Stuart will be the main model. Pose so well that you snatch the position from his smug ass, will you?" she stated, a broad smile on her face.

"Of course," Avery replied, laughing. The only one who had exhibited genuine joy whenever something good happened to her, like Jodi was currently doing, was Emma and Arthur. And she loved the fact that she had found a genuine friend. Even with her walls held up, Jodi was cracking it open with her simplicity and genuineness.

"Thank you," she murmured.

"Thank me?" Jodi scoffed. "No, baby, I’m going to give you all the support in the world so I can go as your plus one whenever the company has a brand event. I need to meet some finance men and remind myself how handsome they are. Been seeing too many actors these days that I forgot how rough other men can be."

Avery linked her arm into hers and the two walked out of the apartment, biding Leroy and some of the others that were still waiting around goodbye.

"Miss Sinclair, aren’t you being greedy for wanting that? Your boyfriend is a finance man already."

"Exactly! I haven’t been seeing other finance men lately because of him. Cause of the whole ’i have to stick to my boyfriend’s side and support him with my all’ shit. How interesting would it be if we were to meet their rivals and go for lunch with them?"

Finance Men*: an informal term for men that work in the finance industry.
