Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 134: DNA Test
Chapter 134: DNA Test
Kathy, on the other hand, could not help but let out a sigh of relief when she saw the direction in which her children’s thoughts went.
"Are you two stupid? Why would I attend confessions when I know that’s equivalent to putting my new found position, which I worked hard for by the way, at risk? You think it’s easy to annihilate a whole family just for the title of madam, and then go throw it away when I’m only just settling in the position?"
"Then why do you waste time going to church so much?" Roberts insisted, suspicion creasing his brows. "It was understandable when Grandpa and our cousins were still alive. At least, we know that was just a guise for them to think you are religious and contented with a simple lifestyle. It’s different now, don’t you think?"
Kathy let out a loud sigh of exasperation.
"You see, Rob. There are moments I can’t help but think Valentina has always been right when she calls you stupid." She hissed, "Don’t you think it would be more suspicious to stop going to church after they died, when I never missed a program when they were alive? You think the press would let us off that easily, when Valentina still needs to ride on Emma’s coattails to gain ground in the industry?" She gritted her teeth. "I have just thirty minutes left to listen to whatever you have to say. So get straight to the point and stop wasting our time."
Instead of growing offended by how his mother just called him stupid, Roberts only felt relieved when she explained why she visited church so much. The manic smile that had earlier disappeared from his face returned, and he faced his sister.
"As I was saying, Avery is dead. I am sure of this not only because I confirmed her dead body at the morgue, but also because I kept it. Safe," he smirked.
"What did you keep? Your confirmation?" Valentina scoffed.
Roberts shook his head, "No, her body, the exact way it was found at the accident scene."
"What?!" the question was a collective chorus from both Valentina and Kathy, their eyes widened in disbelief as they waited for Roberts to tell them he was joking.
However, one glance at the other males present in the room as of that moment told them this wasn’t a joke. Brian and Jon had known about this for a while now.
"Wait," Valentina shook her head vigorously, as if trying to clear her head of what she just heard. "Is this why you and Dad have been more than relaxed, while I’ve been pulling my hair out thinking Avery survived the accident and is alright and back for revenge?"
"That isn’t the question you should be asking," Kathy countered. "The question should be, if you have Avery’s body, then which body was buried by the state?"
Roberts scoffed, "You think the state government care about some dead bodies of criminals when they organize mass burials for them?" He pointed to Brian sitting behind him, "Anyways, Brian helped me in smuggling her body out and we were able to embalm it that same night."
"Eewww," Valentina winced in disgust, "Why would you keep her body? As a trophy or something on the line of that?"
"I’m not deranged," Roberts snapped. "I kept her body just in case a situation like this one arises, where you are doubting that she’s dead because of the sudden appearance of someone who probably just looks a little like her. You can just go check the body to reassure yourself."
"Like the burnt face that will stare back at me will serve any good purpose other than traumatizing me." Valentina gave him a pointed look.
Her brother shrugged in total indifference.
"If you can’t recognize your dead cousin just because she got burnt in a car, then carry out a DNA to reassure yourself."
"DNA?" Valentina scoffed, her brows hiking in disappointment. As much as she was convinced Ava Donovan was Avery, there was still a part of her that wanted to believe Avery was really dead. That part of her had been kind of delighted when Roberts said he kept the body just now, and she’d thought she could finally put her mind to rest. Only to hear this. She hissed, "Pray tell, brother dear, whose DNA are we to compare hers with to make sure she really is the one? None of us here bear even a ten percent match with her. Neither can we try checking the state records for former samples of her DNA, because this is supposed to be discreet! Can you just say something more convincing please, than lifting our hopes high and crashing it to the ground?"
"Valentina is right," Brian spoke for the first time since he stepped into the room, his voice deep and commanding attention. "Now that there’s someone out there who looks similar to Avery, then there’s a high chance the body we have with us is not hers. Especially since there’s no way we can confirm it."
"Are you guys hearing yourselves?" Roberts asked, running his hand through his hair in frustration. "Okay, let’s say Avery is this person Tina is talking about, and the body we have is a fake, then how did Avery escape and how did the ’fake body’ get to the car? Remember, we singlehandedly tampered with the car brakes and put it under risk of inflammation. We even bribed some men to track the CCTV cameras on the highway, so we could know when the car crashed and when it caught fire. We monitored all these closely so how could Avery have been able to escape?" He paused, nodding, "Another insight? Okay, let’s say she escaped. You think she wouldn’t have fleed to the end of the world just to escape from us? Someone like her that has the whole country against her already, would come back here when she has no power, and start a new career as an actress. Is it that easy to audition at Litters agency and get a job? We know how many times Tina tried while Emma was still in the spotlight."
