Avery's Game Of Revenge -
Chapter 118: The Bitch.
Chapter 118: The Bitch.
"Yes?" she said into the phone, as soon as the call connected.
Silence ensued for the next few seconds, before she continued, "Totally. I will make out time to do that... Yeah, I’ll be waiting for the email. Sure; I can manage with that time."
The call didn’t last a full minute she hung up with a beep, and before Jodi could even ask who the caller was, she said, "It’s CS Agency. They say they no longer need to evaluate my performance after Broken Hearts is concluded before accepting me. Apparently, their team has already finalized an image for me, and they would like to meet up to discuss it further."
"Oh my god, really?! Congratulations, Ava!" Jodi exclaimed, cupping her palms over her mouth to stop herself from screaming, "But, isn’t that good news? Why do you look like a child that got his candy snatched from him?"
Avery could not help but roll her eyes at that. Yes, she knew she wasn’t expressing as much excitement as she should, but it wasn’t as bad as Jodi was saying.
"I do know it’s good news and it makes me happy but why do I feel like something has gone wrong somewhere? Like I won’t be happy with the image their team wants me to project," she wondered out loud.
Jodi shrugged. "That’s still no reason not to celebrate. If you end up not liking the image they present, then you refuse it and wait for them to judge with Broken Hearts end result. Trust me, you’ll get signed with them. And it’d be on your own terms, not theirs," she reassured.
Flashing her an appreciative smile, Avery nodded.
"Uhm...to celebrate this, I’ll buy lunch today," she succumbed.
Jodi wriggled her brows, her eyes glinting with genuine astonishment.
"Really? I can order whatever I want?"
Avery nodded, the smile on her face matching her partner’s excitement.
Within minutes, they had arrived at the floor Leroy had mentioned to them in his email earlier that morning. The 6th floor of the entire building. Jodi led the way through the cluster of crew members setting up the props and costumes, towards the door at the end hallway which she guessed led to the apartment they would be using.
"Leroy and the others should be in there. I hope they are busy so we get enough time to rest before starting," she murmured beneath her breath.
"I’d say enough time to touch up on the lines," Avery corroborated. She called out greetings to the crew members along the way, "Hey... Good morning, Rae." She waved at the make-up artist who had helped her the other day on her first shoot at the beach. That was the only worker whose name she knew among the crew, and therefore, the only person she addressed directly.
It didn’t matter that no one returned her greetings but by the time Avery was halfway through the hallway, she could already sense something was wrong. The suspicions in her eyes were mirrored in Jodi’s; the latter also stopping dead in her tracks.
"Is it just me or everyone looks like they are hiding something?"
Avery shook her head slightly, instantly unlocking her phone and muting the incessant beep of notifications.
"Doesn’t look like they are ready to talk though. We’d have to find out ourselves," she stated.
Still standing in the middle of the hall, Jodi had her phone out in a second. As she had fewer notification alerts than Avery did, it was easier for her to comb out the one post that was the cause of their search.
Not even a post; it was a comment left within a section beneath the selfie Avery posted earlier from the username: Valentina, and a trending post from the same person. Seeing the blue tick mark right beside the name was enough for both ladies, Avery and Jodi, to confirm who the person behind the name was.
Valentina McCAllum; someone that was supposed to be their colleague on this movie set.
"I found it," Jodi announced.
Avery hummed, "I just did too. Makes sense why they didn’t want to tell us, but acted suspicious enough to help us guess something’s wrong." She had a slight smirk tugging at the corners of her lips as she talked, but the low tone she used made Jodi think she was downcast.
"Don’t take it to heart, Ava. The bitch is only desperate," she cussed. "It’s obvious she only did this to chase clout. She’s hungry for people’s attention, and needs it to be directed back to her."
"Why did she have to use me then?" Avery asked, pretending like the comment deeply affected her. Her voice increased in pitch as soon as she noticed the people around were now starting to look at her, "It’s more than enough that her family aren’t saying anything to debunk the rumors that I am a murderer; And now, I have to take this from her too?! Do I look like a fool who doesn’t know her right?" she yelled.
Jodi took a step back, glaring at anyone who attempted to speak up or signal Avery to calm down. She needed this show down. If she couldn’t fight a bitch by herself, then she would be more than elated to fight the bitch through her more powerful friend, who also happened to have more reason to challenge the bitch.
Especially when she had had to endure the past few days watching Valentina talk down about her friend at every single opportunity she got. If she wasn’t scared of making Ava feel worse, she’d have told her everything.
"Don’t take it this time," she whispered, loud enough so that Avery could hear. "You have to make her apologize for doing this or she’ll only continue to get on your nerves. And don’t worry about Manager Leroy, the comment was left just 6 minutes ago so he most probably doesn’t know anything about it yet. He won’t scold you for this."
