Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy -
Chapter 970: New Companion
Chapter 970: New Companion
The Half Immortal Enforcer still tried to activate the Immortal Artifact, but Vale stomped on it before it gathered enough divinity to be released.
Crash!
A pulse of divine energy erupted from beneath his heel, shattering the unstable artifact and sending fragments everywhere.
Vale wasn’t sure how to stop the artifact with the Teleportation Rune from activating, so he could only shatter it.
"Ahhh... That’s Teleportation Artifact...You shouldn’t have destroyed that." Corvin suddenly commented after seeing him shatter the expensive Immortal Artifact.
As expected of the merchant, he was actually thinking of profiting all the time.
In any case, the failed teleportation triggered a recoil, and it seemed to have caused some internal injuries to the Half Immortal. His body seemed to be in pain as his muscles started seizing.
After a few moments, the Enforcer stopped moving.
Vale then turned to the girl and noticed that she was about to collapse.
’Ahh...’
Vale quickly moved and caught her gently before she hit the ground...
As he looked at her, he realized that this woman was indeed beautiful despite the silver hair stuck to her bloodied face... Nonetheless, he confirmed that she was still breathing despite being weak... She must be treated immediately.
"You’re safe now..." Vale said quietly as he carried her like she weighed nothing.
Corvin approached behind him, letting out a low whistle.
"You didn’t even use Immortal Spells during the whole battle..." he murmured. "Remind me never to get on your bad side."
Vale sighed and stared at the girl in his arms...
Then, he turned in the direction where those who had escaped ran to...
"Don’t worry about them..." Corvin said as he noticed that Van was considering chasing after them.
Vale chuckled and nodded. "If you say so..."
"But still we’ll need answers..." Vale said quietly.
Corvin nodded. "We’ll take her to the wagon. When she wakes up... I’m sure she’ll have plenty to tell us."
And with that, the forest quieted once more.
The journey resumed in relative silence.
Vale sat near the edge of the floating wagon...
They were moving a lot faster now... The forest they were passing through seemed just like streaks of green and shadow.
For some time, the girl lay unconscious on the padded bench across from him... After Corvin treated her for a bit, her breathing was now steadier.... Of course, Corvin still planned to take some payment from her once she had woken up.
Although it doesn’t look like she had any money with her, she still has some decent accessories that could be worth a lot...
During all this time, Corvin sat up front, guiding the floating wagon lazily.
Then, some time had passed and the wagon ascended slowly toward a narrow mountain pass... It was the edge of a cliff trail known as Sunderwind Crossing, a shortcut to the Luminis Hold.
From here, the valley below was filled with trees and streams. However, several large ruins of previous human civilizations could also be seen half-swallowed by time.
Then, as the Vale and Corvin no longer had any topics to talk about, the woman finally opened her eyes.
"...Where am I?"
Vale turned his head.
The girl’s silver hair shifted slightly as she tried to sit up. However, she just winced in pain as she suffered some internal injuries.
Even if she was half-immortal, she was injured by the Divinity of other half-immortals, and recovery wouldn’t be easy even with their potions and natural healing abilities.
"You’re safe," Vale said gently. "We took care of them. You passed out, but your wounds are stable."
Her eyes immediately focused on him...
"...You’re the one who stopped them."
"Not alone," Vale said with a faint smirk. "But yes."
Corvin turned his head back and offered a casual wave. "Also the guy who stopped you from face-planting into the forest. You’re welcome."
The woman blinked. Then, after a moment’s hesitation, she bowed her head slightly in gratitude.
"My name is Aeris..." she said. "Former disciple of the Nightingale Clan."
Vale narrowed his eyes. "Former?"
She clenched her fists tightly in her lap. "Their Patriarch, Reid Nightingale, is a monster. A coward hiding behind tradition and power. He demanded I become one of his... personal concubines."
Vale exchanged a glance with Corvin.
It seemed that they were caught up in the drama of this Nightingale Clan.
"I refused," Aeris continued. "I thought that was the end of it. But when I left the clan, he labeled me a traitor. Sent those enforcers to drag me back, dead or alive. Preferably alive. So he could ’break’ me properly."
Her voice trembled at the edge of rage. "I would rather die on the roadside than serve that wretch."
Corvin whistled as he heard this.
Indeed, he liked the woman’s spirit.
"Interesting... Reid’s one of the most dangerous Half-Step Sky Immortals in this region. His reputation’s blacker than voidsteel, but most nobles pretend he’s respectable just because he throws grand festivals."
"And no one would question his men abducting someone from his own clan," Vale muttered.
Aeris nodded.
She then explained how the chase would soon start once again since they had some sort of Immortal Artifact that could help them find her location. It seemed that it was the reason why she couldn’t escape from them, no matter how hard she tried.
Corvin’s eyes lit up as he realized why Aeris couldn’t escape at all...
"Now that is a problem I can help with." He reached beneath his seat and pulled out a small crate. He then started unlocking it with a twist of Divine Energy.
"Luckily for you, I carry a selection of premium appearance-altering products. One-time-use products, arcane pills, and this—"
He lifted a veil with silk strands dangling from it.
"A Ghostly Veil Talisman. High-end stuff. This is made of Abyss-thread and soul-cloaking enchantments. It’ll suppress your Divinity signature down to background trace levels. Unless a High Immortal is chasing after you, you should be fine."
Aeris looked shocked. "I’ve only heard of items like that... I thought they were priceless."
"Oh, they are," Corvin said cheerfully. "But I’m a sentimental soul. I’ll part with it... at a steep discount. Let’s call it repayment for not dying on my watch."
In the meantime, as they were talking about it, Vale was now curious about the various levels of Immortals here.
