Chapter 964: Fighting Back
Chapter 964: Fighting Back
Well, he wasn’t being deliberately attacked, but the bread had very small traces of chaos-infused herbs or ingredients.
It was definitely not enough to harm, but enough to acclimate the townsfolk to its presence. As for an Immortal like him, he was completely immune to it.
However, he simply didn’t expect to sense it from the food he had just eaten. In any case, he just continued eating it since it wouldn’t affect it.
"Delicious," he said while tossing her a coin. "What’s your secret?"
The seller just winked and laughed. "It’s a family recipe."
Chad then gently nodded and left the stall.
’They don’t look like practitioners... But I can be wrong.’ Chad mused as he continued looking around.
Soon, he noticed a forge where a few blacksmiths were working. One of the blacksmiths was a burly man, and he was hammering a blade when he noticed Chad approaching.
"Interested?" The smith asked. "This one’s for hunting. If you need something for a beginner or for practice, you can find it in front of the store."
Chad nodded as he indeed looked like a newbie in his attire and physique. He wasn’t as fit as these blacksmiths, who had very defined muscles. Furthermore, his clothes seemed like he was from a well-off family.
"You have fascinating craftsmanship..." Chad said as he also felt a hint of Chaos Energy within this forge...
"Where’d you learn it?"
The smith, realizing that the man was most likely not a customer, could only nod. "I just learned it around."
After this quick visit to the forge, Chad continued to find traces of the Chaos Arts in the tavern, in the town square, in the residential area, and in many other places.
There was no doubt that this place was indeed a hidden base or hideout of the Chaos Arts Practitioners.
Even if the Chaos Immortals weren’t here, they would surely capture a few practitioners of the Chaos Arts and interrogate them.

Chad was ready to leave the town but after some thought, he decided to visit the second pub.
It was The Rusty Anchor.
It was quieter than the others and that was the reason he chose this place... It had dim lanterns and he like the vibe here...
Furthermore, there was the smell of aged oak and spiced ale... It’s been a while since he had a drink, so he might as well enjoy this even for a bit...
Soon, Chad took a seat at the bar, ordering a mug of the local brew—this time, thankfully, free of Chaos-infused additives.
He then took his drink while his ears were tuned to the conversations of the few people around him. It wasn’t really important. They were just conversations about harvests, trade routes, and the occasional hushed mention of "evil creatures" near the forest.
Well, with the existence of Arcane Energy... It wasn’t really that surprising to see ghosts, mystical creatures, and other strange phenomena.
Then, a man slid onto the stool beside him. It happened so silently that Chad hadn’t even sensed his approach.
For an Immortal like him, there was no way Chad would miss such a thing even if he was not on guard.
"You’ve got a sharp tongue for a traveler," The stranger said... "I heard you’ve been asking about bread recipes and blacksmith secrets..."
Chad’s fingers tightened around his mug. This person, who had suddenly appeared to him, was definitely not a normal Arcanist.
That meant one thing.
Immortal.
Chad wasn’t afraid or nervous. As a matter of fact, after becoming Immortal, he hadn’t really had a chance to make use of it aside from practicing with other Immortals within the Shadow Domain.
Furthermore, he could only produce a small amount of Divinity, so he was no match for Vale and others. However, Vale informed him that if he killed another Immortal, he could obtain their Divinity Core and perhaps increase his current strength.
Although it could cause a problem since the Divinity Core of Immortals could not be suited to him, it would still slightly improve their power.
Chad smiled as he calmly observed the man.
This person looked unremarkable—the kind of face that blended into crowds. However, Chad knew that there was more to it... Especially the man’s eyes. They burned with the same restrained power Chad had seen in himself.
"Gyn," the man introduced himself and raised his own mug. "And you’re not here for the ale. Who are you?"
Chad exhaled slowly as he took a few gulps from his mug before giving a reply... In any case, there was no point pretending anymore.
"Chad."
The bartender, sensing the tension, wisely moved to the other end of the counter.
Gyn took a mouthful of his drink as well and replied... "Relax. If I wanted trouble, we’re already fighting... I really like this place."
Chad studied him for a moment and gently nodded.
"What are you planning to do here?" Chad asked.
The question was broad, but Gyn knew what he wanted to know... "We own this town now. We just want to make this a safe haven for us..."
Chad leaned back. "Own it how? By feeding Chaos to civilians?"
Indeed, Chad could tell that they were trying to make the people around capable of practicing Chaos Arts or perhaps, become a part of Chaos Spell. He wasn’t exactly sure.
Gyn’s expression darkened.
"Don’t worry... We’re not poisoning them. We’re preparing them. The world’s changing. They’re all incapable of practicing Arcane Arts. Don’t you think they should be given a chance?"
"You’re giving them a chance?" Chad repeated as he shook his head. Gyn was simply trying to make it simple, but he knew from Vale that these Chaos Arts Practitioners would want to create trouble and take control of the realm.
"There are several Arcane Arts Factions... We’re just trying to create our own faction... We do not wish to harm them or any other people."
Chad frowned. It was most likely not the truth since Chaos Arts Practitioners could never be trusted.
"No... There’s no way you don’t want to harm other people." Chad said. There was no hesitance in his voice, as if he was so sure this Immortal wasn’t here to become their friend.
Gyn laughed... It was sharp, but there was a hint of bitterness.
"Call it survival. You think we like hiding? The Twelve Paths declared war on us centuries ago. We’re just fighting back."
