Chapter 956: Disguised Immortals

Chapter 956: Disguised Immortals

While Kent and his team were trying to integrate themselves into the world, more and more Arcanits took an interest in the mission to hunt the Chaos Arts Practitioners.

Just a few days later, the Arcanist Association of the city was filled with practitioners of various paths. The mission board, a massive slab of rune-inscribed stone, would display various missions.

However, only one of them had become really popular.

A group of five arcanists stood before it, their eyes scanning the latest directives.

At the forefront was Thane, a Beast Arts practitioner draped in silver-white robes... Beside her was Zarall, an Elemental Arts specialist.

These two were familiar figures within the Shadow Domain. As a matter of fact, they were two of the Immortals working for Vale.

It had been a while since these two had come out to do some missions.

Previously, Thane had defended the southern continent and was known as Immortal Beastmaster after controlling thousands of creatures to fight against the Abyssal Demons.

On the other hand, Zarall was the one who had defended the western continent and was the one who had been truly known as the Thunder Emperor. His feat was so incredible that the previous Thunder Emperor had been completely forgotten.

The two were normally together with other Immortals, Aurion, Micah, and others. However, only the two of them were assigned to find or lure the Chaos Arts Practitioners who could’ve entered the realm already.

They even had to seal their Divinity to avoid getting found out.

In the meantime, the three others in their team were just local Arcanists...

There was Jessie, an Elementalist, and finally, the twin Knights, Cynthia, and Cyril...

Soon, under Thane’s lead, they accepted the mission to hunt the Chaos Arts Practitioners.

[ "Hunt for Chaos Arts Practitioners" ]

[ Priority: Arcane Dominion Emergency Directives Requirements: Combat Arts, Holy Arts, Psychic Arts, Dark Arts

Reward: 10,000 zen + Arcane Dominion Warrant of Authority

Location: The Obsidian Forest ( Former Chaos Stronghold ) ]

The ten thousand zen doesn’t excite any of the Practitioners at all. However, what the Practitioners wanted was the prestige of hunting them down and a chance to get connected to the Arcane Dominion.

Then, after they took the mission, the receptionist confirmed that they were qualified to accept it and was soon brought to a room to receive more information about the mission.

Soon, Thane’s team learned about the three teams of Arcanists that had vanished in the Obsidian Forest.

It was no wonder that they had to be briefed thoroughly.

Of course, Thane and Zarall already knew of this matter, but as they were on a mission that Immortal Vale had given to them, they had to act like this was their first time hearing about it, to immerse themselves in their role...

On the other hand, the three others felt a bit nervous.

After all, they were just a new team that had completed a few easy missions. Missions like eliminating ghosts, evil creatures, and hunting some weak cultists were something many groups of Arcanists could do.

"We can do this... Lady Thane and Sir Zarall can surely do something about this." Jessie said as she looked at the two reliable Arcanists.

Ever since they had teamed up with these two, all the missions had gone smoothly for them.

Hearing this, the official from the Association looked at the two leaders of the team. He doesn’t recognize Thane and Zarall but he had been working as an Arcanist Branch Leader and Arcane Bureau’s Secret Agent, he could tell that the Arcanists weren’t simple.

He already secretly checked their records and only found out that they came from the Shadow Domain. Just with that information, it was enough for him to know that they were special.

"You’re the fourth team to accept this mission," he said... "The others never returned, not even any information about the situation in the forest."

Jessie swallowed hard after hearing this. "What? We don’t even know what happened to them?! Is it possible that we’re not dealing with Chaos Arts Practitioners but other threats instead?"

The Branch Leader’s eyes darkened. "No bodies. No traces... Even after sending Beasts Scouts, using Divination, and other trackers, we didn’t find anything. If someone were capable of eliminating any traces... They’re definitely Chaos Arts users..."

He then paused for a moment before he stood up...

"Follow me..."

Soon, he led them to a private chamber, where a rune-projected map of the Obsidian Forest appeared above a stone table.

"The Chaos Practitioners aren’t just hiding," he explained. "They’re most likely rebuilding something. We knew this through a piece of information given by some Immortals of the Shadow Domain. However, they’re also unsure of what it was. Unfortunately, if anyone with Divinity enters the forest, all the traces of Chaos Arts Practitioners will disappear... This is why we’re not making great progress."

Then, the Branch Leader pointed out a few important locations in the forest that they might have to visit.

"Your mission is simple," He said. "Find them. Stop them. And if possible... bring back survivors."

Zarall nodded as this was an obvious mission. "And if we bring back more than just survivors?"

The Branch Leader then turned to Zarall and smiled. "Then the Dominion will reward you..."

After the Branch Leader wished them good luck, Thane’s team decided to make preparations first.

They had decided to visit the city’s black market, where they found various stalls or tents selling items that they might need.

Here, even the most forbidden artifacts could be acquired—for a price.

Jessie, the Elementalist, passed a stall selling fire-bound daggers. Unlike Zarall, who practices Lightning Element, she practices both Fire and Wind, so it caught her attention.

"This place is... intense." She muttered.

Cyril and Cynthia, on the other hand, were already used to this place.

"It would be good if we could find something to help us against Chaos Arts Spells. Right now, we’ll just be relying on our Arcane Energy to deal with their attacks. I don’t feel comfortable with this." Cyril muttered, although he was supposedly with the highest defensive ability among them.

"That’s true..." Cynthia nodded as she looked at Zarall.

"If they do appear, we will do something about them. The main concern is whether they’re the only threats in the forest." Zarall said, assuring his members.

Soon, they started to purchase various items they needed before they headed to the forest to track the Chaos Arts Practitioners.
