Chapter 955: The Hunt
Chapter 955: The Hunt
The mission board seemed to be made by a runemaster or a formation expert, as it could easily get updated with new requests.
Some arcanists crowded around it, discussing missions, and many of them even started forming teams as they realized they were going to accept similar tasks.
Kent and Thassa certainly knew that these missions could help them gather resources and information while blending in with the locals.
Kent initially thought to start doing something simple among these missions since he planned to establish themselves as trustworthy members before they could access more sensitive information...
However, he was stunned as soon as he saw the mission Thassa pointed out.
[ "Hunt for Chaos Arts Practitioners" ]
[ Priority: Arcane Dominion Emergency Directives
Requirements: Combat Arts, Holy Arts, Psychic Arts, Dark Arts
Reward: 10,000 zen + Arcane Dominion Warrant of Authority
Location: The Obsidian Forest ( Former Chaos Stronghold )
Description: The Arcane Dominion has confirmed the presence of a Chaos Arts Practitioner in the Obsidian Forest. Recent intelligence suggests they are attempting to reconstruct a dangerous Arcana. More information will be provided to those who will accept the mission. ]
As soon as they read this information, Kent and Thassa looked at each other.
’Are there other Chaos Arts Practitioners who were exiled and managed to return?’
This was a question that came to their minds at the same time. Now that they think about it, the previous Paragons or even the Council had probably dealt with other Chaos Arts Practitioners differently.
Perhaps, not all Chaos Arts Practitioners were sent to the Shattered Expanse!
This realization stunned the two of them.
If it was true, then they might be able to find allies that they didn’t think they would have. Perhaps, they should also make their presence known to assist those other Chaos Arts Practitioners who thought they were alone.
"We can’t be hasty." Kent said which seemed like something he also wanted to tell himself.
"That’s true. Let’s consider what’s the best for now. In any case, once the messenger calibrated itself, you should immediately send a message to the expanse that we are doing fine here and they should prepare to go here as well." Thassa reminded.
Well, this was still a different realm, so the special messenger they had needed some time to familiarize themselves with this realm’s coordinates.
"I will... Don’t worry about that. For now, we can think that this mission isn’t something made for us. It must be made for other Chaos Arts Practitioners." Kent.
"Of course... However, there’s also a possibility that these Chaos Arts Practitioners weren’t exiled from another realm but someone who had just inherited something from us. After all, we still have a lot of textbooks and other resources to study the Chaos Arts. Some other people might’ve taken it and practiced it." Thassa said after analyzing it.
"Yes... And it could also be a trap." Kent said.
"Trap? Is it to lure out real Chaos Arts Practitioners?" Thassa never considered this option but it was certainly a genius move if it was true.
However, they also couldn’t ignore it since if it was truly another Chaos Arts Practitioner, they couldn’t just leave them be.
After all, they hated the council and didn’t want them to succeed by suppressing them ever again.
For now, however, as beginners, they selected a mission that involved gathering rare fire-aligned herbs from a nearby forest. It was something that would not get too much suspicion.
Furthermore, it was a straightforward task, but it would give them an excuse to explore the area and gather intelligence.
As they accepted the mission, a notification appeared on their badges, confirming their assignment.
As they turned to leave, Kent noticed a group of Arcanists discussing a more complex mission. One of them mentioned the Arcane Dominion, and Kent’s ears perked up.
They weren’t aware of this Arcane Dominion at all.
"Did you hear? The Dominion is offering a hefty reward for information on rogue Arcanists," one of them said. "They’re cracking down on anyone who doesn’t follow their regulations."
"Well, with the appearance of that Philosopher’s Elixir, everyone could now become an Arcanist. It means anyone with evil thoughts who obtained it would surely use it for horrible things."
"That’s why the Arcane Bureau made the Dominion anyway."
As Kent and Thassa listened, they soon realized that the Arcane Dominion was basically a special organization under the Bureau that hunts Arcanists who weren’t following the rules of Arcanists.
This was such an interesting detail, showing how much this world had evolved ever since they had left this realm.
’Philosopher’s Elixir... That’s incredible.’ Kent thought to himself as he couldn’t believe that an elixir that could make someone an Arcanist was actually made.
It was no wonder that there were so many Arcanists right now.
The things they were learning in just a single trip to the Arcanist Association were certainly a lot.
In any case, the Arcane Dominion was clearly vigilant, and their presence here could easily be discovered if they weren’t cautious.
As they left the Arcanist Association and made their way back to the forest, Kent and Thassa discussed their next steps while they waited for the other group.
They had successfully infiltrated the Association and gained access to its resources, but the real challenge was to move silently and create a stronghold for other Chaos Arts Practitioners without being noticed by their enemies.
The world had changed, and they were no longer the masters of it.
They would need to adapt, learn the new rules of this world, and find a way to reclaim their place in it.
"Isn’t this exciting?" Kent said, grinning.
There would be a huge change that was coming, and Kent Draven would be at its center!

Soon, the other group led by Gyn finally returned, and they also obtained useful information about this world.
They confirmed that the nearby settlements, towns, and cities were under the control or perhaps guarded by the Arcane Dominion, and the people seemed to regard the Shadow Immortal in the Shadow Domain as a divine figure.
They also learned that the Council of the Twelve Arcane Paths was no longer in the scene, and even old Arcanists weren’t aware of this name.
"So it seems that this Shadow Domain is our main concern if we want to operate in silence until the other Immortals of our Path arrive..." Kent muttered.
