Chapter 98: Chapter 97 Five Minutes of Trouble
Olivia blinked back to herself, confused by her own footsteps. She wasn’t supposed to be here. And yet, here she stood, outside Lucian’s dorm.
She pinched the bridge of her nose and muttered, " Seriously?"
She had been deep in thought, as she was supposed to head back to her dorm, but here she was, standing in front of Lucian’s dorm.
"Of all the places to wander into..." she muttered under her breath, glaring at her feet. " Traitors."
She turned to head back to her dorm, but the person she wanted to run from so badly was suddenly in front of her.
Her gaze locked with Lucian’s, and it held, far longer than it should have. The world narrowed, just the two of them, until she yanked herself free from it and tried to walk past him. Trying her best to ignore him.
As she walked past him, just a few inches apart, his hand suddenly held hers. "You came to see me, why are you leaving so soon?" Lucian asked, his voice warm and hoarse.
Olivia quickly removed her hand from his grip as if his touch burned. "I didn’t come here to see you," she denied without batting an eye.
Lucian stared at her with different emotions swirling in his eyes, his heart tugging with pain. He wondered if maybe she didn’t forget him, maybe she wouldn’t be on her guard like this. He was one step from jumping in joy that she had come to see him, as he wasn’t expecting her to come around this soon.
Olivia felt her heart squeeze when she saw Lucian’s expression flickered with hope, pain and something else she could not name. He looked like a boy caught between fear and longing, like her presence alone was the answer to a question he didn’t know how to ask. ’Why does he look so sad? Don’t care about that, it’s none of your goddamn business. I should avoid him as much as I can,’ she thought inwardly.
"Can we talk for a moment?" The words rolled off Lucian’s tongue before he could stop them. He bit his lower lip. He didn’t mean to ask that. He wanted to respect her wish for more time. But his eyes still looked at her with hope, his body coursing in anticipation.
Olivia’s eyes followed every single movement. The way he bit his lower lip sent jolts of shivers down her spine. The way his eyes widened, sparkling with hope, was so heart-tugging that she couldn’t bring herself to say no.
But she couldn’t let him think she had grown soft for him. ’Speaking of growing a soft spot for him, when did that happen?’ she asked inwardly. ’Was it when he was saved from the underground world?’
She cleared her throat, her eyes stealing glances at him. "What do you want to talk about? I only have five minutes to spare," she answered curtly. She didn’t miss the look of relief and excitement that flickered through his eyes.
Yeah, she knew she had made another bad decision. She had disregarded Diana’s warning. She knew she should be avoiding him like acid, but how could she say no to that droopy, cute look?
It’s not like it’s today she started making bad decisions. She low-key fidgeted with her hand.
"Thank you. Do you want to come inside?" he asked with a smile.
Olivia rolled her eyes inwardly at him. She had given him a piece of pie, but he wanted to have it all.
"Sure," Olivia bit her lip in frustration. Why was her body betraying every thought of hers?
Lucian was taken aback by her quick acceptance. He wasn’t expecting it. He had just asked to test how deep the level of her resistance to him was. But a smile graced his lips.
"Make it snappy," she tried to sound as if she didn’t give in easily.
"This way," Lucian immediately led the way as he turned his back to her. A grin formed on his lips.
Olivia’s eyes stared daggers at his back, not because she hated him, but because she was unable to refuse his request.
"Come in," Lucian said, after he opened the door to his room.
She hesitated at the doorway. Every instinct told her to turn back, but his soft voice pulled her in like gravity.
The smell of cologne and that of earth and woods invaded her nostrils—the scent that always brought relief to her body. Her eyes browsed through his room.
She wanted to protest the stark contrast between his room and hers. Why does he get to live alone in this massive room while she has to share hers with three other people? This is unfair. The same applies to Alexa and Klaus—they both live alone in their rooms.
The wall was painted navy blue and white. She hadn’t noticed it before, how clean it was, and how lived-in it felt. Her eyes caught on the beige couch. Heat crept up her neck, as she remembered the way their little kissing escapade.
Lucian rested his back on the wall with his hands tucked in his pockets as he watched her browse through his apartment. It seemed like she had forgotten about the time limit she had set. He smiled as his eyes followed every single movement of hers.
Olivia continued to walk around the room as she stared at the painting of a forest hanging on the wall. Her brows furrowed. ’This place, why does it look so familiar?’ she thought inwardly. The trees, the disposition of the ground—everything looked so familiar, like the place where she had awakened from the fall in the monster’s domain.
As she turned to ask him why he had exactly this painting, she stumbled into a chair. A yelp escaped her lips as she lost her balance. She closed her eyes, expecting the welcome of the hard floor.
But she suddenly crashed into a warm, hard-toned chest. The scent of Lucian invaded her nostrils. Her eyes snapped open. She blinked her eyes multiple times. ’Why is he so close? Is he going to kiss me?’ Her heart thudded in her chest.
But that wasn’t what made her heart race in her chest.
It was the hard, warm thing poking her groin. For a moment, her mind went blank. And that... that definitely wasn’t his belt buckle. Her face burned. Her heart stuttered. Damn her legs for bringing her here.
