Chapter 91: Chapter 90 Plan and Doubts

The tension that once cloaked the academy like a thick fog had not vanished, but it had simply shifted. Olivia noticed it in the way people whispered less and avoided Alexa entirely. The wild rumors that once bounced off the walls like a bullet had dulled into silence. No one dared to say a word now, not after Alexa had sent Lydia to the infirmary with one blow.

Fear had a funny way of purifying gossip. Olivia had watched it happen. One violent outburst, and suddenly, Alexa wasn’t a target—she was a warning. A living one.

As she walked through the academy’s courtyard, her boots crunching on loose gravel, Olivia felt the growing conflict in her chest. Everything had changed so quickly. Her mission was complete, her system was quiet for now, and yet... nothing felt settled.

Lucian walked a step behind her. Silent, observant. Ever since he caught her from the tree, he had become unusually distant. Not cold exactly, but preoccupied.

"You’ve been quiet," Olivia finally said, breaking the air between them.

Lucian blinked, his gaze trailing toward the sky before meeting hers. "Have I?"

"Yes," she said, then hesitated. "You’ve been thinking a lot."

Lucian didn’t answer immediately. His brows furrowed slightly. "So have you," he answered back.

Olivia studied him carefully. Something about his tone stirred a strange unease in her chest. Lucian looked the same—silver hair, calm presence—but the more time she spent with him, the more she felt that something old and wild lurked beneath his skin.

"True," she muttered.

Meanwhile, far from them, someone else was busy nursing wounds deeper than any bruised ego. Klaus slammed his hand on a training dummy, splintering the wood with one blow.

Lucian had humiliated him. In front of everyone. The crowd hadn’t even cheered for him, but they had been afraid of him.

Klaus’s grip tightened around the hilt of his sword. Olivia was slipping further from him by the day. And Lucian, that freak, was always one step closer. Always the one catching her, saving her, making her laugh.

"If I can’t have her," Klaus growled, "no one will."

He turned to a large scroll laid out across his desk, various names scribbled in rough ink. Their illustrative weaknesses, system profiles. A smirk formed on his lips as his eyes lingered on Lucian Drakenhart. The plan was almost done.

And he would make sure Lucian would not survive it. He was going to pay him back for the humiliation he had suffered.

...

Later that afternoon, Olivia made her way toward the student campgrounds, where Diana and the others were housed. Her gut hadn’t stopped twisting since their last encounter. Diana had seen something. That much was clear.

She found her alone, seated beneath a shade tree, flipping through an old spell book, but not really reading.

"Diana," Olivia called softly.

Diana looked up, then back down again. "You shouldn’t be here."

"Why did you react that way earlier?" Olivia pressed, stepping closer. "When you saw Lucian, it was like you’d seen death."

Diana didn’t speak right away. She closed her book, fingers trembling at the spine. "Because I did see death."

"What?"

"I can’t tell you everything," Diana said, rising to her feet. Her eyes were hollow, her voice cracked like dried glass. "But you need to be careful of him. There’s something inside Lucian, something older than you can understand. He is not what he seems."

Diana sighed. She didn’t even know why she was telling her this—not when she was supposed to kill her. She couldn’t let her heart soften now. She had to do this for the safety of the future, she assured herself.

Olivia’s heart thudded. "Are you saying he’s dangerous?"

"I’m saying he’s more than what he knows. And if he ever remembers who he truly is... none of us will survive it." Her words cut through Olivia like a glacier. Her heart turned cold.

Olivia stepped back, startled by the certainty in Diana’s voice. But before she could ask more, Diana turned and walked away.

Olivia had no idea whether to follow her or not. But how could she doubt Diana’s words—a Seer’s word? A bitter smile etched on Olivia’s face. She thought she had someone she could trust, but now he is dangerous?

Her gaze followed Diana’s retreating figure, heavy with questions. But was she supposed to avoid Lucian now? Her brain believed that was the right thing to do, but her heart had other plans of its own.

...

Across the academy walls, Lucian stood on the balcony of the old west tower with Dimitri beside him. The wind tugged gently at his shirt, but the tension in his body was anything but calm.

"She recognized me," Lucian said, arms folded. "She was terrified. I could see it in her eyes."

"Should I follow her?" Dimitri asked.

Lucian didn’t answer at first. His jaw clenched, unease flickering in the depth of his irises.

"I want everything," he finally said. "Her name. Her history. Her family. I want to know what she saw that scared her like that. And if it has anything to do with me..."

Dimitri nodded, bowing slightly. "It will be done."

Lucian didn’t speak again. He only stared into the far horizon, haunted by a past he couldn’t remember and a future he could feel breathing down his neck.

"Was this about the voice I heard in my near-death encounter?"

’This is no longer your home. You are hereby banished. Your rebellious and evil act deserves your death, but since we cannot kill you, we will send you to a place where powers will be greatly restricted. Oh, look how you have fallen.’ The taunting words echoed in Lucian’s head again.

.....

And somewhere below, Olivia stood between both worlds—between the boy she thought she trusted and the shadow he might soon become.

She stood under the sun, basking in its rays. Who is Lucian? The question etched on her mind.

Maybe she could investigate him.
