Chapter 72: Chapter 71 Not Even The World

He kicked the door open, but suddenly stopped in his tracks. He was stunned by the sight in front of him. He saw the man on top of Olivia, their eyes locked, rage flaring in both.

Gauss hissed out of irritation, his eyes glinted with anger and impatience. He turned back to Olivia, becoming more aggressive, as he wanted to get the deal done as soon as possible.

As he charged forward, Bummy suddenly crossed his path, hurling fire toward him. It happened so fast, but Lucian swiftly dodged his attack.

Before he could think of how to get to Olivia, Pubby lunged and latched onto him, pushing Lucian down. He clawed at Lucian but missed by a few inches, leaving a deep, angry claw mark on the ground.

Pubby growled in annoyance. It was mad for missing its target.

Lucian swiftly got on his feet, his chest heaving. These monsters were not like the ones in the domains. These ones were well-trained and calculative. Their speed and their strength were like an S-level monster.

Meanwhile, earlier when the door burst open, Olivia and Gauss had snapped their heads toward the door. Hope flooded through Olivia, knowing that someone was here to save her.

She struggled more, putting up a fight. But she froze, all her nerves refusing to move, as a punch landed on her face, splitting her lips. The metallic taste of blood dripped into her mouth.

Lucian’s eyes darted toward Olivia. When he saw her get hit, something snapped inside him. Red, fiery blaze surrounded his fist. His golden eyes locked on the monsters.

A gust of wind followed as Lucian vanished into motion, he dashed toward the charging Pubby. Both aiming for a kill.

They both passed each other by a few inches. Pubby let a low growl before dropping to the floor. Dead.

Lucian glanced over his shoulder at the dead monster, before returning his gaze to the dark purplish core pulsing in his hand. His gaze snapped to Bummy, who took a few steps back. It barked and growled aggressively as Lucian closed in, its paws pouncing on the ground.

Before the snap of an eye, Bummy dropped to the ground, a small dagger dug into its stomach. Its eyes fluttered between light and darkness, before welcoming the warmth of darkness.

"Stay still. You are making me hurt you, and trust me, I don’t want to," he said in a broken, hoarse voice.

Olivia went still.

Her eyes closed as the pain shot through her skull. Her skin began to tingle; it was as if something was shifting underneath her skin.

Her body temperature began to burn. Faint energy of flames crackled around her fist.

"Sh*t! Why are you burning so hot?" Gauss yelled in pain, releasing his grip on her. His eyes widened when realization dawned on him.

"How..." Before he could finish his question, Olivia yanked his beard, pulling him closer to her. His bewildered blue eyes locked with her fiery green ones.

AAAARGH!

A deep yell tore from his throat as his beard was on fire. Olivia stared at him with no emotion. Flames engulfed her body like an armor, burning everything in contact with it. The bed burned like it was tossed into hell. The fire flowed down to the floor, burning everything in its path. Soon, the room turned into an inferno.

"No... please, wait..." his voice cracked, cut short as Olivia hurled him against the wall. The wall shuddered from the impact, a cloud of dust spilling down.

Gauss groaned, his eyes unfocused from the impact. Blood dripped down his face. "Bummy, Pubby, attack them now," he ordered as he staggered to his feet, groaning in pain, as his body was covered with blisters.

But only silence and the crackling of fire answered him. His heart skittered in his chest, fear running down his spine.

When he raised up his head, he saw the burning body of Pubby, while Bummy was unconscious but protected by a barrier.

"No... My babies!" he cried out, falling to his knees. They were supposed to make him invincible. Instead, they’ve burned for his greed. All he wanted was power. Now he had to pay the price. He had lost his companions. Pain and regret shot through him.

His fist clenched. It was all because of her. If he had succeeded, he would have become the most powerful person in this damn world, but she was so adamant in refusing him this power. ’It is all her fault, and I will make her pay dearly for my babies’ lives,’ he thought inwardly, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

In the midst of the flame, he saw her walking closer. Her steps were deliberate. The fire licked up her feet like a dog clinging to its master. Her fierce emerald green eyes shone like a torchlight in the flames.

Gauss bit his lips. He stood no chance of winning now because he couldn’t use his powers, as they were being suppressed. He still didn’t know how Olivia and the intruder were able to use theirs.

Now he had to escape.

His eyes flickered to the door, but he saw the man standing guard. His throat tightened, anxiety creeping into his body.

"Since you pushed me this far, don’t blame me for fighting back," Gauss muttered underneath his breath, his hand pulling a dagger out from his back.

Lucian watched as he guarded the door. He wasn’t going to let him escape. He dared to lay a hand on her. Lucian gritted his teeth. If it were up to him, he would have tortured him until he begged for death. But this revenge wasn’t his to take. He would let her do it as she deemed fit.

His eyes caught a silvery glint. His body turned alert. Before he could think, his feet were already dashing toward them.

Fear gripped his heart at the thought of her getting hurt.

Gauss launched himself toward her, aiming for her chest.

Olivia walked closer to him. As she swirled her hand, the fire heeded her command, forming a whirl around her. Before she could react, Lucian threw himself in front of her, his arms wrapped around her.

"You’re safe now," he whispered. The firelight danced in his golden eyes, shadowed by the pain shooting through his back. "Not even the world can take you from me."
