Chapter 119: Chapter 118 I Choose To

Olivia’s chest rose up and down, only a few inches from touching Lucian’s chest. Her fierce eyes locked with his calm ones.

"I’ll tell you, but first you have to heal first," he struggled to loosen her grip on his collar.

"I want to know, now!"

"Didn’t you see what happened before? You want to chase after him, in the state you are?..." Lucian pulled closer to her, his lips only a breath away from hers. "I’ll make sure he doesn’t escape, Olivia... believe me."

Deep down, Olivia knew what he said was right, how she carried out her revenge in this state without being a burden. But as stubborn as she was, she didn’t want to accept just like that.

"But you can just tell me the location first," her eyes flickered from his eye down to his lips. She swallowed, then she saw his lips slowly curling into a smirk.

She abruptly pushed him away, ’he is mocking me... what is wrong with me? I can’t be distracted by him.’ She tried to regain her composure again.

"Olivia, I’m really sorry for your loss," he said, the sincerity in his voice brought a strange warmth in her heart. She blinked, pushing down the emotions that were rising up her chest.

She turned, walking towards her bed. "Did you find out who he was working with?" She changed the direction of the conversation, she just didn’t know how to respond to him.

Lucian stared at her with sadness flickering through his eyes. "Not yet, but I’ll try to find it out."

Unconsciously, Olivia fidgeted with her hand with her head down. "Okay, thank you."

"I..."

Before Lucian could say the door burst opened. Olivia turned to the door, thinking it was Abigail, but surprise flickered through her when she found out that it was Klaus.

Every step he took closer made her skin twitch in annoyance. It had been a long time since she last saw him. Only now was he showing up, it was not like she needed him to stay beside her or care for her.

But it made her blood boil, that he had abandoned her this long. According to the nurses, he had not stepped a foot in the hospital since she was admitted.

Klaus’ eyes shot daggers at Lucian before landing on Olivia’s face.

"I see you’re doing just fine," he said, his tone flat but laced with bitterness.

Lucian straightened, his posture calm but guarded. Olivia stood in the middle, feeling the sudden tension swell like a thick cloud ready to burst. Her hands instinctively clenched the sheets beside her.

"Klaus..." she muttered, unsure of what to say.

He looked her over, his gaze lingering on her bandages. "So, after everything, he’s the one here beside you?"

"I didn’t call him," she snapped, her voice sharper than intended. "He came on his own."

Lucian’s lips twitched, but he didn’t say a word. His calm and cold expression was overbearing, and Klaus didn’t like it.

"How convenient," Klaus scoffed, stepping closer. "Always hovering, aren’t you?"

Lucian finally met his gaze. "Because I choose to, and don’t see anything wrong with that." He shamelessly admitted.

The words struck a nerve, and Olivia noticed how Klaus’s jaw tensed. He stepped even closer now, stopping just a few feet from Lucian, as if daring him to say more.

"You think I don’t care?" Klaus asked, looking past Lucian at Olivia. "I wanted to come. But I knew I’d just make things worse."

Olivia frowned. "So you stayed away instead? That’s your excuse?"

She didn’t yell, but her voice cracked. The weight of everything hit her all at once—Luke’s death, the fight, the secrets, the overwhelming grief. Her chest felt too tight.

"You left," she said again, softer this time. "And I don’t care what your reason was. You weren’t there." She didn’t know why she was getting worked up over this.

Klaus looked like he wanted to defend himself, but no words came out. He lowered his gaze, clenching his fists.

Lucian couldn’t take it anymore. "If you’re just here to dump your guilt on her, then leave," he said, voice low.

Klaus glared at him. "And you? You think you’re the hero now?"

"I never claimed to be," Lucian replied, calm but firm. "But I’m here. That’s more than I can say for you."

"Stop it," Olivia’s voice cracked. "Both of you. Just stop."

She leaned forward, clutching the edge of the bed as a wave of dizziness hit her. Lucian immediately moved toward her, but Klaus was faster. He reached out to steady her, his hand brushing her shoulder gently.

"Don’t touch me," she said, pulling away. "I’m not some glass you both can fight over."

Lucian froze. Klaus stepped back.

"I don’t need anyone right now. I just need to figure out what comes next."

Lucian nodded slowly. "Then let me help you with that. When you’re stronger, I’ll tell you everything. We’ll take him down together."

Olivia looked up at him, eyes red-rimmed but sharp. "Promise me he won’t escape."

"He won’t," Lucian said without hesitation. "Even if I have to burn the whole city to find him."

Klaus watched them both, and something inside him sank. There was a shift he could feel but didn’t understand. Olivia was slipping further from his grasp, and Lucian was already occupying the space. ’Who are they looking for? Is it me and Gauss?’ His fist clenched. He needed to go back to make sure there were no loose ends.

Olivia can’t find out he was behind this. "I should go," Klaus said. "Just... take care of yourself."

He left without waiting for a reply, the door shutting behind him with a soft thud.

The silence returned, but this time, it was almost peaceful.

Lucian walked to the chair beside her bed and sat down.

"You didn’t have to defend me," Olivia said, her voice softer now.

"I wasn’t doing it for me," he said. "I just didn’t like the way he looked at you... like he still had the right."

Olivia didn’t respond. Her body relaxed slightly as the tension slowly left her shoulders.

"Get some rest," Lucian said, reaching over to adjust her blanket.

She didn’t fight him this time.
