Chapter 40: An otherworldy hammer
All the men in the room had money and all of them were experts at reading and analyzing contracts. They silently read and studied the brochures from the beginning to the end.
It was a quick read; five minutes was all one needed to peruse through the content.
Sheldon Sagan, the youngest of the millionaires in the group was the first to speak up. "You are telling us that this brochure originated from Hades’s manor."
Jon nodded. "Boxes were carried out and handed to part timers for distribution all over the city. Some were flown out on helicopters."
"His wife’s sister is in bed with the cult dude." Karl tossed the brochure on the table dismissively. "Maybe he has joined them."
Cory scoffed. "Hades Quinn believes in Hades Quinn and he trusts in Hades Quinn. There is no way the wolf would fall for Pastor Salem’s scams."
Jin nodded. "I agree. If he was with Pastor Salem, he would be planning to move to that so called holy land the cult is preparing. Instead, he decided to sell off his assets, expand the land he owns in Westbrook, build three walls, stock food and supplies and buy enough weapons to start his own private militia.
I don’t know what is going on, but I just thought that I should share what I know. We are all businessmen, and we have all lost deals to the son of a bitch. When your opponent is doing something unusual then you should start taking notes--you never know when odd becomes genius.
That is how Hades squeezed his way into the business world. So, do with this information what you will." He stood up and grabbed his coat. "Oh, he also bought a lot of gold and apparently took a lot of cash from his bank. I am getting a sense of crisis, which is why I also acquired gold, silver and diamonds." He gave his friends a two-finger salute. "Stay alive and safe until we meet again gentlemen."

Sunshine had only managed to get two hours of sleep when she woken by a ringing in her head. She grumbled as she looked at the time on the screen that flashed before her.
"4:10am! System this better be good." She grumbled, loudly yawning.
[Host, I have news that may excite you. I am in touch with the seller of a Nullfire F10 weapon on planet Obrixa. There is better news, and it is that she is also a merchant that sells the Phasium alloy.]
Fatigue that coursed Sunshine’s bones melted away and was replaced by a surge of energy. "Great! That means that I can start remodeling the guns now. Go ahead and connect me to this seller."
[Alright host]
She looked over at Hades, he was still sleeping. She flipped the covers open and looked at the leg and she gasped. All traces of cutting were gone; it was if she had not touched his leg at all. It looked normal, with the exception of two jagged red streaks on the sides of the legs which looked like bolts of lightning etched in neon plasma.
When she touched them, she felt some light current pulsing through the body and she pulled her hand away.
[Host I have created a digital dead pool; this channel is untraceable and secure which is necessary since the gun is an illegal weapon.]
"Good thinking system." Sunshine returned her focus to the system, vanishing into the space.
On the virtual screen a face of the seller appeared. She had been expecting to see an alien, instead she saw a human woman’s face. The system cleared up her confusion very quickly.
[Faces of the seller and buyer have been altered for anonymity. Your name and details are also indicated as anonymous.]
"That is actually a good idea." She muttered.
Exposing herself easily was not a great idea. She knew nothing about other worlds, and she was not willing to be identified as a criminal before she ever visited them.
"The name is Bjorn 2-k, greetings friend." The seller introduced herself.
"And I am Sun---Sunlight, greetings friend." She answered. It was an odd way of greeting, but she would not say so.
"Odd name." The seller responded
They got down to business, Bjorn accepted to sell the gun and phasium alloy, but it did not want money in exchange.
"What is it that you want?" Sunshine asked, hoping that it was something that she could get her hands on.
"Your broker said that you are a repair man?" Bjorn’s words came in form of a question.
"Yes, I am, is there something that you want me to repair for you?" She asked.
My brother sliced a shadow scourage beast with my sword and left it shattered. If you can fix it, we have a deal." Bjorn sent the sword over to Sunshine.
She unwrapped the packaging and looked over it before picking up the half that was not broken. It was heavier than the usual steel swords she was used to. It was dark in color forged from an ore she did not know. It almost looked like stone etched with swirls that shimmered.
"Can you fix it?" Bjorn asked.
"I will try but I make no promises." Sunshine answered.
"Good enough." Bjorn answered and ended the call.
Sunshine would contact her after the job was finished--or unfinished if she could not fix it.
After Bjorn left the screen, Sunshine exhaled loudly. It had not been able to show during the call, but she had been awfully tense.
"System is there a way to repair this sword?" She asked, already defeated.
The system scanned the sword. [Host, it is actually not that complicated, just fix the core crystal in the heart of the hilt and the broken parts will come together like glue. But the old core crystal is completely unusable, so you need a brand new one.] The system advised.
"Where can I get this core crystal?" Sunshine asked, perking up.
[There is an intergalactic trade market, I am aware of a seller of such crystals that other repairmen use. Would you like to buy one?]
"Yes." She said eagerly.
Within the next five minutes the system had delivered the crystal, it had cost her four merit coins.
As for the core crystal, it looked like a shiny round transparent empty pearl. Other than the fact that it pulsed from time to time, it looked ordinary. She would have studied it closely if she had the time, but she did not.
"Let us get to work."
[Start by shattering the rest of the sword with a hammer and then arrange the pieces around it like a jigsaw puzzle.]
She got her hammer and brought it down. The sword remained intact.
"System, upgrade my hammer."
[10 points deducted]
Once again, she brought it down, but the sword remained intact.
"What the hell!" She exclaimed. "System, upgrade it again, two times."
The more she upgraded, the bigger in size the hammer grew, and she worried that she would not be able to lift it. It was now quite literally her size! Aesthetically, it was pleasing, black like the earth with blue pulsing lines around the large rectangular head and handle. In the middle of the head was a fiery pattern that looked a flash of fire connecting to little stars that were also on fire.
[Congratulations host for owning your first otherworldly upgraded repair tool.
Reward: A packet of energy drinks and a light sword.]
"Yeey" she muttered. "But the question is, can I lift it?"
[Every repairman is blessed with extraordinary strength which increases as they repair more gadgets. The hammer is as light as a feather in your hands.]
She lifted the hammer with all of her strength and leaped up once. Then, she brought it down with one loud shout. Pieces of the sword fell apart.
Sunshine flipped her hair back. "That is how you get the job done." She bragged. She glanced at her hammer in smiled.
Maybe it was wrong, but she was suddenly looking forward to the apocalypse even more. With this otherworldly hammer, how much damage could she do?
