Chapter 38: A human leg or a robot leg?
She looked at them slowly, one by one. They looked back at her like a herd of rabbits gathered and waiting to collect carrots for lunch.
"Something bad is going to happen." She started. "I am afraid that your services will no longer be needed as of tomorrow."
Cathy whimpered and grabbed a chair.
Sunshine continued, "This is not because Hades has gone bankrupt or because you have served the family poorly. It is because that apocalypse Moon was talking about is real." She ignored their frowns and added, "You all know better than to assume that Hades and I are believers of Pastor Salem.
What I am telling you is news that we received from a scientist working on a special project and some whispers among the rich and connected. They got this information from sources high up in the government."
Rakel gasped.
Hades arched his brows. Now this was a good way to tell people about the apocalypse. It was better than I had a dream.
"What does this mean?" Cathy asked in a trembling low voice.
"It means shit is going to hit the roof, water and food will become scarce. Medicines will run out; people will kill each other."
Some of the maids turned pale, other gulped.
"Now, some of you may believe it and others may not. It is up to you and how you use this information is your prerogative. There are some options that I am going to give you.
One, you can bring your families and go with the rest of the Quinn’s to Westbrook Mountain and continue to serve us. In return, we will feed, pay and protect you.
Two, you can still come to Westbrook on your own with your families. We will provide you with shelter and nothing else. This offer is being made because you have served the family loyally.
You have just this night to decide. Tomorrow the move to Westbrook will begin. Hades and I will still be around for a few days, but we are leaving as well."
She handed them the pamphlets with guidelines on surviving in an apocalypse. Each had ten pages in total.
"Goodnight." She said to them and left.

Hades was ready for bed and so was Sunshine. She was still dressed in her clothes while he changed to pajamas. Her reason for sleeping in clothes was that she was used to it.
One never knew when they would to wake up running in an apocalypse.
"I like the way you handled the servants." He told her as she slipped into the bed.
"Thank you." She raised her lips in a tired smile. "It was necessary. We can afford to feed them so we can take them with us if we wish. And, I will not have much time to cook when I am on patrol, in battle or repairing things. It will be nice to have someone cook for me.
You were wise to think ahead and acquire fifty million worth of gold. It will be enough to pay their wages and take care of other things."
Among the things that had been put away in her space tonight gold and one hundred fifty boxes of cash were included.
He smiled. "I actually acquired one hundred ten million worth of gold. I wanted more but the timing is short and....."
Sunshine whistled. "One hundred ten million worth of gold! Damn, sometimes I forget how rich you are."
He merely laughed. "We.....Sunshine, we are rich."
"The weather absorbent suit would beg to differ." She muttered.
They were earth rich but interstellar poor.
He laid his head on a pillow and looked at her. "Thanks for not being angry with Ariel."
"What is there to be angry about? He is a good boy that cares for his siblings." Softly, she added, "He is as dependable as his father."
Another smile blossomed on Hades’s face. That was the second compliment she was giving him this night. Even though her compliments always evolved around his ability to provide, he liked hearing them.
"Fifi, Damien and others left." She said in a curious voice.
"Mmm." He looked away from her and faced the ceiling. "You were right, not everyone was loyal. They took thirty million each and left. It made me wonder...if we were in the apocalypse and we split.
They would demand that I hand over half of my supplies even though they contributed nothing. And Cassius, I checked on him too. You were right he is not completely ill; he has been recovering slowly over the years.
He bribed the doctor to fake his reports, five million. He was also involved in the theft at the company. He joined hands with three senior executives and Damien."
"Wow!" Sunshine exclaimed.
Hades added, "He took the deed to the villa his father left him. The house has already been sold. The neighbor was always looking to purchase it, and he sold it to him. Warren received a call about it today because he was being asked to move his property out within a week."
He closed his eyes, and she failed to tell if he was brooding or sleeping. She did not share in his heartbreak for what his relatives had done. What she could do was fix his leg.
So, she vanished into the space.
"System, what will I need to repair a human leg?"
[Normal or upgraded?}
"Upgraded."
[Nano-scalpel-10 points.
Bone stitch plasma needle-25 points.
Neuro-sync callibrator-40 points.
Hydraulic joint adjuster-5 points
Cybernetic leg components package-3 points
Organic skin-1 point]
"83 points!!" She exclaimed. She could not afford it, nearly all of her points had gone into upgrading the space. She had only four points so she could only afford the cybernetic leg components and organic skin. It looked like she would have to wait for another day.
[Host can borrow points and pay back with a small interest of 1%.]
She did the math in her head. She would simply add one point roughly.
"Deal."
The points were added and now she had 84 points. She purchased everything that was needed. All that was left to do was inform the patient.
"Hades." She shook him awake.
He opened his eyes and pulled away from her when he saw her holding a drill in her hands. This was the kind of thing one woke up to in a horror movie.
"I want to repair your leg." She said flatly.
He sat up, frowning. "What do you mean and why are you saying repair?" She made it sound as if his leg was a leaking engine.
Sunshine nodded. "I have a way to fix your leg, not just fix it but make it stronger."
"Stronger!!" he exclaimed.
"Robot strong, robot speed...basically a cybernetic leg."
Hades blinked a few times, puzzled by what she meant. Impatient, Sunshine waved her hand and took him into the space.
He arrived on his butt, sitting as he had been doing in the bed. His eyes bulged as he looked around what seemed to be a giant supermarket and repair shop in the middle of nowhere. There were no walls, just what looked like an enclosed and yet open space.
"So, this is what it looks like on the inside." He took some steps forward,
She walked up to him with an injection in her hand. "Yes or no. In case you don’t awaken in the apocalypse, a robot leg will be your life saver. Your injured leg on the other hand will only burden you, me and the children. I am not going to debate this with you for hours Hades. Yes, or no to the robot leg?"
