Chapter 32: When an alpha wolf moves.
That same morning in one of the highest sky scrappers in Babel city, Jon Kingsley giggled as he read a thread of comments that were written under Sunshine’s picture on one post online.
In his mind, he pictured Hades seething and shouting orders to his assistant Owen, telling him to get in touch with everyone he could to take down the picture online. But it was all useless. Jon had decided to print the picture in physical newspapers because they could not be tampered with or recalled.
"Serves you right Hades." He stated, giggling even more.
Deliberately, he rested his legs on the small mountain of newspapers beneath his feet. He had read all the articles written in each of them and satisfied his craving of making Hades’s life miserable. Now, the papers were no longer of use to him.
His plan of humiliating his business frenemy had turned out even better than he had expected. Jon was about to ask for the papers to be destroyed when he realized that he needed to get some cut outs and frame them. Maybe he could wait for Hades’s birthday and frame the pictures. He could send them to him as a gift along with an expensive bottle of wine.
Or maybe he would make a big poster of all these pictures and articles combined. He would hung it on the former headquarters of the Quinn group.
He drifted his attention to his personal assistant that was waiting for his next orders.
"Trevor, I have to say that for the first time in a long time you have done something truly commendable. Good job. I am going to give you a raise and a bonus for this." Jon praised and promised, a quick thumbs up sealed his approval.
Trevor’s nervous laughter bubbled up, tension melting away. If he had known that he would be rewarded, he would have dug deeper and found more embarrassing photos of Sunshine Quinn. As horrible as it was, business men did worse things to sabotage each other.
"Thank you sir." He pushed the big ill fitting round glasses closer to his face. He was so busy that he had no time to get then fitted properly.
"Leave." Jon waved his fingers dismissively. "Keep your eyes on Hades. It is your number one priority right now outside of assisting me. For any useful information that you bring me, I will reward you well." He instructed.
Trevor offered a small bow and turned to leave, then he suddenly paused in his trucks. "Sir I do not not know if this is important but..."
"Is it about Hades Quinn?" Jon asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Yes sir."
The grin on Jon’s face curdled into a grimace. "I told you that right now everything about Hades Quinn is important. I want to know the real reason why he is selling off his damn companies. I want to know why he bought so much food that my breakfast and lunch have been ruined.
He is up to something that wolf. I don’t know what but he is up to something. Tell me everything Trevor, pay off all the servants at Quinn manor if you must. I need to know when he wakes up, what he eats, what he thinks, even when he takes a shit!" He barked, bolting up right.
Trevor was not sure if he wanted to know when Hades took a shit but if his boss cared, he would find the means to get his hands on that information too.
"Mr. Quinn paid a visit to his land in West brook Mountains. He has bought more land in that area and started working on it. There is already a rumor spreading that he is going to construct a resort and an entertainment city on that land." Trevor reported.
"What?" Jon’s laughter arrived in installments; first a scoff, then as groan, then as surrender to hilarity. "Where did you hear this absurd rumor? Have you been to Westbrook? It is not attractive enough or populated enough to become an entertainment city. Who told you this?" He quizzed.
Trevor wiped invisible sweat from his palms onto his pants. "It is the mayor of Westbrook, he himself is telling everyone that has an ear and cares to listen about Mr Quinn’s investment in Westbrook. Mayor Townsend is quite pleased about all the jobs this will bring in, the tourists and votes in the next election." He answered.
A scoff came from Jon. Over the years he found Hades’s moves predictable but he was always able to take general guesses on what his rival was planning. But this time, he just couldn’t understand him.
His people had done their investigations on the Quinn group, it turned out that the company was not bankrupt in any way. In fact the past month alone they had a revenue increase of 19%. This sudden selling off of the group had come out of the blue, even to the senior executives and Hades’s friends.
The question on the lips of everyone that had figured out this much was why Hades was selling off his company and assets? Something was definitely happening.
Jon did not know what it was but it made him feel panicked and uncomfortable, which he hated. If the alpha wolf was voluntarily running away from the mountain it had dominated for years, there was a possibility that a bigger predator had moved in.
But, there was no such predator in the business world. If there had been, smaller companies would have been swept away and everyone would be talking.
"What are you up to Hades Quin? A resort my ass, you must be planning something else." He spoke to himself.
Trevor placed a file before him. "Sir this is the evidence of what is happening on the land right now." He said as he took a few steps back.
Jon hastily opened the file and flipped through the pictures like his life depended on it. "Why does he need a swarm of workers? Are these three walls and what look like watch towers being built? It seems like he wants to construct and finish this in the shortest time possible." He aired his thoughts.
His fingers drummed on the desk as he thought really hard. Hades’s wife, according to Trevor’s investigation was buying a lot of food. His wife’s cousin was on Tv talking about apocalypses and such nonsense.
Jon Kingsley knew that Hades was not the kind of man to be involved in conspiracies. Maybe he actually knew something that the rest of them did not.
The finger drumming stopped and he looked at his assistant. "Trevor get in contact with my real estate agent and buy all the land that Hades has not gotten to just yet." He ordered, his fingers moved in a dismissive way.
Trevor’s trembling fingers scratched his brow. "The thing is that the land has become so expensive way above its value...."
"Just buy the damn land! All of it and some houses. Also, find me a list of all the things Hades or his wife have purchased recently. Start buying them too and transporting them to Westbrook." Jon barked, throwing the stack of papers at the assistant who scurried out like a scared wet cat.
Immediately, Jon called a trusted construction company and expressed his desire to construct a resort on the West brook Mountains. He wanted exactly what Hades was constructing and it was to begin immediately.
"If you are constructing a resort there I will do the same thing as well. Don’t think that our competition will end just because you run away." He quietly said, a triumphant smile formed on his face.
Next, he called the Merger and acquisition team, he wanted to know which subsidiaries of his own company he could sell off in order to gather funds to construct his resort. If that failed, he planned on securing a fat loan to finance it.
Whatever Hades did, he would do. If the alpha wolf was seeking a new home, the wise wolves needed to follow.
"Should I tell others?" he winced, pondering on what to do.
