Chapter 29: Some forgotten things.
"Did you think that I was in here sobbing my eyes out?" She asked him.
He shrugged. "I was raised on the belief that family is important. They are your only blood related family and as far as I recall, you were on good terms with them until ...err...the whole marriage thing."
Sunshine scoffed. "You already know that I loathe Moon and as for my aunt and uncle, I have two less mouths to feed and people protect. They might as well get knives and stab themselves because Moon will dump them when times get hard." She lifted her shoulders with indifference.
That settled the topic. She went back to work, ignoring him as if he was not there at all and this went on for twenty minutes. Even though the house actually did belong to him, Hades felt awkward especially because he was standing there like a statue.
He was not so good with indulging in small conversations that is why he kept himself busy with his work. Right now, with the closure of his company, he did not have work anymore. He also did not have much sleep.
Sunshine took note of his slight uneasiness, so she offered him a seat. "You should not move that leg around too much otherwise you might actually cause severe damage to it."
He placed the wine on the table right next to some metallic materials. "I thought that you might want to drink and forget all your troubles, but I was very wrong." His eyes pinned to what she was constructing.
"Nice rabbit, is that a gift for Castiel? I am sorry that with everything that has been going on you have not formerly met the kids."
Sunshine’s face twisted as she focused on the robotic animal wondering if something was off with her great creation. "A rabbit! seriously?" She asked in an irritated voice.
"Yeah, a very cute one, especially those sharp ears." Hades answered, oblivious to the implications. His hands stretched towards it, but Sunshine slapped them away.
The glare she cast towards him was enough to let him know that he had somehow offended her, but he did not know how.
"First of all, this is a dog. A robot dog and Secondly it is mine I do not know why you would think that I am making it for Castiel." Sunshine got other parts of the dog from the space and assembled it. "See, dog. Not rabbit, dog. German shepherd fierce big dog."
Hades wanted to laugh at how her face morphed into a thousand expressions at the same time as she reassured him about her creation, but he held back.
"Well, you and Castiel are friends. Of all my children, he is the one that you are closest to. I heard that my mother confiscated the knife you gave to him, so I thought that maybe you were building him a toy." Hades responded, then paused before speaking again. "Medicine! Have you stocked any of it? Castiel is a sickly child...."
"I know that and I have stocked as much as possible." Sunshine chimed in, reaching for the papers in her bag.
"Here let us look through the lists together just in case something has been missed. After the apocalypse begins, there will not be many chances to stock anymore. Factories will shut down, houses will be abandoned, fuel will become scarce.
We need to move faster and then leave for Westbrook before the rain turns acidic." She brought out glasses from the space and poured wine into them, it was going to be a long night.
"That gets me every time." Hades said when the glasses appeared out of nowhere. "I hope that you will soon trust me enough to take me with you into your space. I would love to take a look in there."
She gave him a once over and looked away. She did not respond positively or negatively. This to Hades meant that there was some hope.
"So, there are some supplies that I have ordered for, but I am unsure if they will be useful in the apocalypse. I hope you can confirm for me. If they are useless, we will leave them here. Water, a lot of it."
"Boxes or tanks?" she asked.
"Both."
She nodded. That was a great move.
"Alcohol, I ordered for different varieties. Enough to supply a large bar for at least six years." He told her. He twisted his face because even to his ears, it sounded stupid. Nobody needs that much alcohol in an apocalypse, especially some of the high-end stuff he had ordered for.
"Alcohol is good too." She pulled her voice, torn as it was not a necessity like food, water and breathable air. "It can be used to clean wounds, currency in some cases, fuel. Let’s be honest, every once a while people just need to drink, to escape reality for a moment. But it must be controlled because an apocalypse is not a time for intoxication. One’s brain must always be sharp."
Hades had already ordered for the wine. After all she said, he decided that most of it would be stored at Westbrook rather than letting it take up room in her space. The space was only for necessities.
"I just mentioned breathable air and recalled oxygen masks." She gave him a curious hopeful glance. "Can you get your hands on a large number of those? As many as we can get."
Hades groaned. "The air too!"
Sunshine nodded. "In some places, the mist made it hard to breathe or released toxic fumes. Sometimes, the sun was just too hot that air burned people’s lungs. This was remedied when someone named Solina discovered a mutated herb which was named solspire.
It was synthesized into a gas that could be breathed in through a small tube. The leaves themselves could be sown into clothing or woven in face masks directly. It was one of the most expensive herbs or medicines in the apocalypse."
Once more, it fell on Hades that she talked about the apocalypse as if she had lived through it. She did not even realize it, or she knew and she did not care.
"Alright. So, I also bought tea leaves because I noticed that they were not on your list. Not just tea leaves all sorts of tea spices." He added.
"I forgot about that." She muttered.
"I was thinking about poisons..." He brought this up in an unsure voice. "Rat, snake and other types."
"Great idea." She clapped her hands once. "I was only thinking about mutated animals that I forgot about ordinary ones. With a space I don’t have to worry about rats but I cannot expose my space so we will need to have food reserves on the ground. So, get all animal poisons.
And also have more fruits transported here in the next three days. I did not get enough. With Moon gone, we don’t have to hide anymore, and we can stockpile in peace.
Get fuel, Hades, as much gasoline as you can get your hands on. I got some generators, but you can get more. Solar panels too."
"I already took care of that." He waved the list in his hands. "Just as I ordered for ATV’s and motorcycles because we will be living on a mountainous terrain. I have also been thinking that we should recruit people that you know of who will make great accomplishments in the apocalypse. If we can form a premature team of super humans, it will make our base more secure."
In a very cold voice, she replied, "No."
