Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Something is very strange....

Back on Liora’s side, after the group had fought through wave after wave of zombies, there was finally a brief silence. The area around their houses seemed a little more manageable. It felt like they had killed hundreds, and for a second, they thought it was finally over. But that hope didn’t last.

The difference was barely noticeable. The air was still heavy with the scent of blood, and the ground was covered in corpses. Liora wiped the sweat from her forehead and glanced around, ready to face more enemies.

Then something strange happened.

In the midst of fighting, no one noticed at first. Everyone was too busy hacking, slashing, killing, and surviving. But slowly, they began to realize.

The zombies weren’t moving at all.

They weren’t growling or charging anymore. They stood there, rooted in the same place, completely still. It was unnaturally eerie.

"What the hell..." someone muttered.

Just as confusion spread among them and they tried to understand what was happening, a single drop of water landed on the cracked ground before them.

Plop.

Everyone froze as their expressions shifted from confusion to terror. Panic swept across their faces like a wave. Everyone’s eyes widened in horror, and a chorus of terrified voices rose all at once.

"Run! Get inside! NOW!"

Liora blinked with a stunned expression. Everyone was running inside while screaming and stumbling toward the gate with all the strength they had left. Their fear was terrifying and real, but she didn’t understand why.

"What’s happening? Why are they running?" she thought. She turned her gaze to the unmoving zombies, who weren’t even chasing them anymore. It made no sense.

Before she could piece it together, someone grabbed her arm tightly. She stumbled and turned to see Chen Wei dragging her toward the gate too.

She tried to speak, to ask what was going on, but one look at his face shut her up instantly.

He looked terrified.

Liora stopped resisting and allowed herself to be pulled along. In her mind, she made a note: I’ll ask later. I need to know what the hell just happened.

They rushed back into the villa. Behind them, the last of the group slammed the gate shut. But the door was broken, half-hanging on its hinges, practically useless now.

Just as Liora tried to catch her breath, the stranger group started speaking quickly and urgently.

"Go deeper inside! Find a room far from the outer walls and practically no windows or leakage!"

They looked frantic. One of them added, "Preferably the first floor. Ground floor’s too exposed. We don’t know how long this will last."

Everyone nodded, they were all angry with his words. Zhou Yinuo picked up the sleeping child and clutched him tightly. Chen Wei and Liang Zihan rushed to gather supplies. They started hauling everything they could upstairs.

The stranger group immediately began searching the villa for a safer room, as they had nothing to secure.

Liora was about to follow them when she suddenly remembered something very important.

Her Hummer.

No way in hell was she leaving her baby behind. If everyone else was dragging their supplies upstairs, there was no reason she couldn’t take her Hummer with her. It was her lifeline, her backup plan, her everything.

"Damn it," she cursed and bolted outside again.

She dashed across the living room. The zombies were still standing there, still frozen. That only made the atmosphere creepier. It felt like they were being watched by statues.

Liora didn’t waste time, she ran straight to her Hummer, and with a wave of her hand, she stored it in her system space.

Then she ran back inside the villa as fast as her legs would carry her.

By the time she returned, the group had made it to the first floor. The villa wasn’t designed for so many people, and there were no rooms without windows, but they found one where the windows were sealed tightly with thick glass. It would have to do.

They all squeezed inside—ten people and a child. It was cramped and claustrophobic. Supplies were stacked in every corner. But no one complained.

They were too scared to even complain.

Liora finally couldn’t hold back any longer.

"What the hell happened?" she asked, glancing around. "Why were you all running? What’s going on?"

All eyes turned to her.

She felt like a ghost. Like she was the only one who had no idea what kind of monster they were hiding from.

She gave a nervous smile. "I’m not a mind reader, you know. Someone tell me what this is all about. What’s with the zombies? What’s with this rush to find a sealed room?"

The metal-type ability user looked at her, then pointed toward the window.

"Look outside," he said quietly.

Liora turned and walked to the glass.

At first, all she saw was mist.

A thick, white fog had swallowed the night. It was impossible to see past it. But the sound—soft, at first—began to grow louder.

Pitter... Patter... Pitter-patter.

Rain.

It was raining.

But it wasn’t normal rain. The drops hitting the glass looked... off. It was thick and dark. And the longer she watched, the heavier the rain became.

The sound grew sharper, more aggressive, like small bullets striking the glass.

Liora leaned closer and stared out into the fog. The zombies, they were still standing there. Still frozen in their places.

But their heads were all tilted up slightly, faces turned toward the sky. Toward the rain. As if they were in some kind of trance.

She shivered at the scene. Just what is going on? Was it the same rain that once she had heard about from Zhou Yinuo?

But it had rained only after the apocalypse began, then never again. Then why now? Or was this the reason that all the zombies were behaving strangely and their high number?

A strange chill crept down her spine as a terrible realization began to settle in her gut.

Something was very wrong with this rain.
