The room fell silent for a brief moment before Zhou Yinuo cleared her throat and repeated their earlier discussion. Liang Zihan and Chen Wei also added details, going over everything they had already discussed before Liora entered. She listened without interruption, nodding along even though she already knew most of it.

Once they finished, she tilted her head slightly and asked the question that had been on her mind. "Chen Wei, what level are you?"

Chen Wei stiffened at the unexpected question. He shifted uncomfortably before replying, his voice laced with shame. "I’m just at Level 2. I awakened three months ago, but I haven’t been able to level up any further."

He clenched his fists, frustration evident on his face. "I’ve only managed to kill Level 1 Rotter zombies. And they don’t even drop crystal cores. The probability of getting one from them is one in thousands, so I’ve never been able to gather any."

Liora nodded in understanding but did not say anything. Instead, she stood up and walked toward her room. The others exchanged puzzled glances as they watched her disappear behind the door.

Moments later, she returned, carrying her backpack. She reached inside and pulled out a single crimson-red crystal core, placing it on the table in front of them.

The moment their eyes landed on it, their breath hitched.

Chen Wei, in particular, felt his entire body freeze. The glow from the core was mesmerizing, almost hypnotic. A strange pull made him want to reach out and submerge himself in its power.

But he clenched his fists, forcing himself to remain still. He did not know why Liora had brought this out or what her intentions were. And this wasn’t his to take.

Liora settled back into her seat and, after a brief pause, finally spoke. "I found this last night while wandering around. It was in a dead zombie’s brain.

Someone probably left in a hurry and didn’t even bother checking. The place was filled with slaughtered zombies, so it’s not surprising."

Liora made a lie that no one doubted. After all, there was always a chance that someone had left a zombie crystal in a hurry and later forgotten about it.

Her tone was so casual, her words so convincing, that none of them doubted her. After all, it was already nearly impossible to obtain a crystal core from a Level 1 zombie.

But if she had stumbled across a battlefield where high-level zombies had been killed, then it made sense that a core had been left behind unnoticed.

She needed strong allies. She couldn’t afford to rely on weak people if she wanted to survive. Going on simple missions alone wouldn’t be enough. And living alone was out of the question. If she stayed isolated, this world would eventually break her.

She turned to Chen Wei and pushed the core toward him. "Here. See what kind of core it is."

Her tone was deliberately light, as if she didn’t fully understand its value. She wanted to appear as clueless as possible, as if she had no idea what kind of power this core truly held.

The others were too overwhelmed to even question why the crystal was showing its true color. Normally, cores only revealed their original hue when held by an awakener of the same element. But none of them thought about that. They were too stunned by the sheer presence of such a rare crystal.

The others fell silent, unable to question her logic. If she had truly looted it from a battlefield, then there was no way she could have known exactly where it came from.
