Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Grandpa Xu

The old man almost choked on his own breath.

"500 high-grade crystal cores?!" he sputtered, slamming a hand against the armrest. "Girl, are you out of your damn mind?"

Liora blinked innocently. "Is that too much?"

The old man clutched his chest like he had just been stabbed. "Too much? TOO MUCH?! Do you even know how many people would kill just to get their hands on one high-grade core? And you’re asking for five hundred? Are you planning to buy an entire country?!"

"Even if you got the high-grade crystals from all over the world, it would hardly be 500 high-grade crystals. And 500 high-grade crystals mean 5 million low-grade crystals."

Liora tilted her head thoughtfully. "You know it’s a very rare item. I have gotten my life in danger, so this much is worthwhile."

The old man groaned, rubbing his temples as if dealing with a severe migraine. "Do you take me for some kind of bottomless treasure vault? Where do you think I’d even get that many high-grade cores? Pull them out of my beard?!"

Liora squinted at his beard as if genuinely considering the possibility. "It does look suspiciously thick..."

"Don’t look at my beard like that!" the old man snapped, covering it protectively. He let out a long sigh and shook his head. "Listen, brat. I’m a businessman, not a miracle worker. You might as well be asking for the moon while you’re at it."

Liora pouted slightly. "So you’re saying you can’t afford it?"

The old man’s eye twitched. "Of course, I can afford it!" He puffed out his chest indignantly. "But I’m not an idiot who would pay such a ridiculous price!"

Liora sighed dramatically. "That’s a shame. I was hoping to do business with someone who actually had money."

The old man nearly fell off his chair.

"You little—!" He took a deep breath, muttering something about how he was too old for this before glaring at her. "Be reasonable. I’ll offer you 50 high-grade cores."

Liora snorted. "Do I look like a charity case?"

"Then how about 80?"

"400," she countered smoothly.

The old man gasped as if she had just threatened his ancestors. "You lowered it by a whole hundred and still expect me to take that seriously?! 100. That’s my final offer!"

Liora sighed again, shaking her head. "You drive a hard bargain, old man."

"That’s the first sensible thing you’ve said!"

"350," she said immediately.

"Are you even listening to me?!"

Liora grinned. "I am. I just choose to ignore the parts that don’t benefit me."

The old man groaned, slumping back into the couch. He looked like he had aged another decade in the last few minutes. "I swear, you’re going to be the death of me..."

Liora tapped her chin. "Well, if you don’t want it, I can always find someone else." She reached forward, making a motion to take back the fruit.

"Wait!" The old man snatched it up before she could even touch it.

Liora smirked. "So you do want it?"

The old man scowled at her but didn’t let go of the fruit. "Fine. 200 high-grade cores. Take it or leave it."

Liora pretended to think about it, dragging out the silence just to watch the old man sweat.

Finally, she smiled. "Alright. If I get something precious, you will be the first one to know."

The old man groaned but nodded. "Deal. At least this brat has a conscience."

Liora extended her hand, and he reluctantly shook it, muttering under his breath about "greedy little brats."

As she watched him mumble to himself while counting the cores, she couldn’t help but grin.

She had a feeling this wouldn’t be their last business deal.

The old man chuckled. "Clever girl. If I lowball you, you’ll walk away. If I overbid, I’ll be bleeding myself dry." He studied her carefully. "But since I like you, I’ll be fair. This fruit, if auctioned, would easily go for at least a hundred high-grade crystal cores. Maybe more, depending on the buyers."

"But I have already given you the highest price, so you benefited from me. Don’t forget about this old man in the future when you get something good," he added without another pause, afraid that this little brat would disappear if he was a second late.

"Don’t worry, old man. I will not forget you." Liora said with a confident smile while patting her chest with pride to show that he should trust her.

"Call me Grandpa Xu. Now we have been acquainted. ’Old man’ sounds so old," Grandpa Xu said with a sighing expression.

Liora could not help but think, Grandpa does not sound old, huh? But she could only sigh and let it slide. Now the most important work was to get her hands on 200 high-grade crystal cores.

Soon, Liora left his house while driving a brand-new Hummer H1, humming a little. She had bought this vehicle from Grandpa Xu with 100 high-grade crystals. It created a big hole in her pocket, but Liora did not mind because it was very necessary. She could not always run around without a vehicle. It was too hectic.

It would be very useful for doing missions because she did not know when the new missions would arrive and where she would have to go to complete them. And don’t ask her how she knew how to drive it. It was very easy. The system guided her at every point, and even though she was clumsy at the start, she would soon become better at driving.

She had even loaded the generator in the back seat of the vehicle. It was already very convenient, or she really did not know how she would take it inside her space. And she also did not have that much space left to store anything else after storing all those supplies. In the inventory, she could only store the rewards and items she got from the system or for completing the missions.

Liora was just driving outside of Grandpa Xu’s manor when she looked in the rearview mirror and saw another, more advanced and heavy military vehicle entering the gate.

"This Grandpa Xu really has an extraordinary background. Or from where is he getting so many crystals and such an advanced-level military vehicle and even selling me one?" she mused.
