Chapter 45: Just Let Me Do My Damn Job!

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Just Let Me Do My Damn Job!

Liora could not believe her luck could be so rotten. When she was busy as hell and had an important mission to do, everyone had to come just to stop her?

"Can’t they just leave me alone?"

Liora had a lot of things to do. She could not waste time, and dealing with a bunch of petty, jealous girls wasn’t on that list.

So when she heard their approaching figures toward her, she did the only logical thing.

She ran.

"If she stopped, they would only waste her time and maybe not allow her to leave. If she were free, she would have stopped to teach them a lesson, but not now—there would definitely be trouble afterward."

She spun on her heel and bolted like her life depended on it. She didn’t care how it looked. Pride was a luxury. Survival was a necessity.

"HEY! STOP RIGHT THERE!" Chen Ruolin’s angry shriek sounded behind her.

Liora didn’t even glance back and turned a deaf ear. "No thanks!" she shouted over her shoulder, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

The girls chasing her all froze for a second, stunned.

"...Did she just—"

"—SHE’S RUNNING AWAY?!" Wang Xueyi blurted out in disbelief.

"What the hell?!" one of their lackeys gasped. "Is she serious? We have not even done anything?!"

"Is she crazy? We just want to talk to her," another chimed in.

"Maybe she was scared of our Chen Ruolin," another said with a smug expression.

Chen Ruolin felt smugness creeping onto her face. It looked like she knew her place. Maybe in the future, she would consider taking her into their group. But first, she had to catch this little bitch, or that bitch Zhou Yinuo would be very arrogant. It would be fun to see how her face changed color when she recruited her friend into their group.

For a solid moment, the others stood there dumbfounded, watching Liora speed off. She was fast—way too fast. It was like she had been training for this exact scenario her whole life.

Then Chen Ruolin shouted, "Stop her!"

The group took off after her.

Liora’s heart pounded as she weaved between people, dodging crates, sidestepping stalls, and leaping over an abandoned cart like an action hero. "Leave me alone! I didn’t even do anything!" she screamed in her mind. "Go fight Zhou Yinuo if you want revenge!"

But no. These lunatics had decided that since they couldn’t get to Zhou Yinuo, they’d take it out on her. Why? She had no idea. All she knew was that she was not getting dragged into whatever nonsense this was.

Behind her, Chen Ruolin and Wang Xueyi pushed through the crowd, knocking over a stack of wooden crates in their frustration.

"Why the fuck is she so fast?!" Wang Xueyi huffed.

"WHO CARES?! JUST CATCH HER!" Chen Ruolin snapped, her face red with anger.

Liora glanced back just in time to see them gaining on her. "Oh, hell no!" she hissed, picking up speed.

The moment she ran faster, the girls instinctively sped up too.

It became a ridiculous game of chase, with Liora sprinting for dear life while her pursuers refused to let her go. They weren’t even thinking anymore—they just knew one thing: catch her.

And then something even more ridiculous happened.

A few onlookers saw them running and, out of pure human instinct, joined in.

More and more people started taking notice. A few bystanders, curious about the commotion, began jogging alongside them. "Wait, what’s happening?" one guy asked.

"I dunno! Just run!" someone else shouted.

And just like that, the crowd grew. People who had no clue why they were running joined in purely out of instinct. A survivalist’s worst nightmare was being the last one to react. Maybe there was a zombie outbreak! Maybe supplies were being given away! Maybe the base was on fire! No one wanted to be left behind.

Soon, what started as Liora being chased by a petty college-level revenge squad turned into a full-blown stampede.

A guard at the base entrance saw the horde of people sprinting toward him and paled. "SHIT, ARE WE UNDER ATTACK?!"

The alarm was almost sounded. Almost.

But Liora, seeing the sheer size of the crowd behind her, screamed in her mind, "WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?! WHY AM I LEADING AN ENTIRE BASE IN A MARATHON?!"

She was out of breath, she was tired, and worst of all, she still had shit to do.

"STOP RUNNING, DAMN IT!"

Liora didn’t know who yelled that, but she wasn’t taking chances. She made a sharp turn, dived into an alley, and pressed herself against the wall, panting. The stampede of people rushed past her, still running with no idea why.

From her hiding spot, Liora wiped sweat off her brow. "I fucking hate this base."

Liora stayed pressed against the wall, chest heaving as she watched the ridiculous stampede disappear down the road. A few slowed down, looking around in confusion.

"Wait... why were we running again?"

"No clue. But that was fun!"

Liora rolled her eyes. Fun? FUN?! She nearly died from sheer exhaustion, and these idiots thought it was fun?

She exhaled sharply, gathering herself. She had wasted enough time. She still had an important mission to complete. Now that the chaos had moved on, she could slip away unnoticed.

She couldn’t care less where this ridiculous crowd ended up or what happened to them. But apparently, the universe had the same attitude toward her—it also did not give a fuck about her.

Because just as she thought she was safe, that same shrill voice sounded behind her—the kind that could make even the dead cover their ears.

"Found you, bitch."

Liora groaned, dragging a hand down her face. "Oh, for fuck’s sake, can someone strangle this banshee already?"

Liora locked eyes with her and sighed. "Why won’t she just become a zombie’s snack?" But then she doubted even a zombie would swallow her—more likely, it would spit her out in disgust.
