Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Doomed to Die?

"Ouch!" Liang Zihan shrieked as he felt his forehead hurting. When he touched it to confirm, it was indeed red, and even a bump had appeared there. Clearly, Liora had struck him with the apple core. But with her strength, it was a little too much for him to bear.

"What? What did you say? Why can’t I be alive? Are you praying for me to be dead?" Liora asked with a baffled expression. Her hand was itching to give this fool a good beating. How dare he call her a short-lived ghost?

Now, Liora was overly sensitive about this topic. Dying once was already enough; she did not want to die again. And she certainly would never want any jinx-mouthed person to jinx her to death. She was sure someone had jinxed her in her previous life. Otherwise, how could it be possible to die just from overdrinking? She had never heard of such logic anywhere, and neither did she want to believe it.

But before she could teach this fool a lesson, a soft figure launched at her, almost tackling her to the ground. She almost flung the person into the wall but stopped herself when she realized who it was.

Zhou Yinuo clung to Liora’s body like a baby koala and started sobbing uncontrollably.

"You... you... how could you do this...? I thought... you... left us and... and sacrificed yourself for us," Zhou Yinuo said between hiccups, her small face washed with tears, her voice coming out in a broken tone.

Liora was surprised by the emotional Zhou Yinuo and did not know how to handle her. Even her question did not make sense to her.

Sacrificed myself? Liora doubted her ears, wondering if she had heard it right or not.

Soon, Liora realized what they were implying. Her eyes twitched at Zhou Yinuo’s words. She suddenly found herself tongue-tied and speechless. How could they think that she—Princess Liora—would sacrifice herself? Dream on. She scoffed in her mind.

Looking at Zhou Yinuo clinging to her, Liora didn’t know how to explain that it wasn’t her intention. But she quickly decided against it. If she explained, then all those tears would have been for nothing, and the situation would only become more awkward. It was better to leave things as they were.

Liora sighed, feeling both warmth and exasperation as Zhou Yinuo clung to her. The girl’s small frame trembled against her, her tears soaking into Liora’s already-dusty clothes.

Liora awkwardly patted Zhou Yinuo’s back. "Alright, alright, enough with the waterworks. You’re getting me all wet," she grumbled, but there was no real annoyance in her voice.

Zhou Yinuo only tightened her grip, refusing to let go.

Seeing this, Chen Wei and Liang Zihan finally lowered their weapons. The tension that had gripped them eased, and the heavy guilt in their hearts began to fade.

"How... how are you alive?" Chen Wei finally asked, his voice hoarse. He wasn’t the type to show emotions easily, but right now, he was barely holding himself together. "We saw you—" His throat bobbed. "You were surrounded. There was no way out. We thought you were—"

"Dead?" Liora finished for him, arching a brow. "Well, surprise! Turns out, I’m harder to kill than those zombies."

Liang Zihan huffed, rubbing the bump on his forehead. "Yeah, yeah, we can see that. But how did you even escape? We thought for sure you—"

Before he could finish, Liora reached up and flicked his forehead again. "Oi, you guys really need to stop jinxing me! How many times are you going to say ’we thought you were dead’? Keep saying it, and maybe it’ll actually happen!"

Liang Zihan yelped, covering his forehead as he took a step back. "Alright, alright! No need to resort to violence, woman!"

Zhou Yinuo, still crying, finally looked up, her red-rimmed eyes glaring at Liora. "But why did you do that?! Why did you stop at the back and not follow us?! We thought we lost you! Do you even know how much we cried?!"

Liora’s expression softened for a moment. She glanced at the others, then sighed. "I didn’t ’let’ myself get separated, alright? The situation was bad, and I had to make a decision. If I had stayed with you guys, we all could’ve died. So I figured, ’Hey, why not make myself the bait and lead those ugly bastards away?’" She grinned. "Worked out pretty well, don’t you think?"

It was a lie. She couldn’t possibly tell them that she had wanted to kill all those zombies just for a few rewards.

Chen Wei frowned, his jaw clenching. "That was reckless. You could’ve really—"

Liora cut him off with a dismissive wave. "I didn’t, though. So no need to get all dramatic about it."

Zhou Yinuo sniffled, still looking unconvinced.

Liang Zihan sighed. "Fine. So you survived. But that still doesn’t explain how you got out of there. The last we saw, you were surrounded by at least a hundred zombies. What, did you suddenly grow wings and fly out?"

Liora smirked. "I might as well have."

She took another bite of her second apple. No one even noticed where she had gotten it from. Deliberately pausing for dramatic effect, she waited until all three of them stared at her expectantly before finally relenting. "Alright, alright. I found a building, climbed up, and waited until they got bored and wandered off. Simple as that."

Chen Wei narrowed his eyes. "That’s it?"

"That’s it."

Liang Zihan deadpanned. "You make it sound so easy."

Liora shrugged. "It kinda was. You guys really underestimate how dumb zombies are. I just threw some rocks, made some noise in another direction, and boom, they all ran that way like headless chickens."

"See? It’s so simple. And you make it sound like I was doomed to die with those ugly zombies."

She crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow. "Give me some credit—I’m not that easy to kill."

Zhou Yinuo wiped her tears, still clinging to Liora’s arm. "But what if they didn’t? What if you were trapped there for days?"
