Chapter 183: The Beast Beneath the Ground

Chapter 183: Chapter 183: The Beast Beneath the Ground

The air was heavy with silence after Liora’s words. Everyone stared at her, their eyes filled with curiosity and worry.

"What do you mean?" Yun Shou repeated with slight confusion.

Instead of answering right away, Liora simply raised her hand. The area around her fluctuates slightly. The ground nearby trembled, and with a flash, something massive appeared right in front of everyone.

A loud gasp swept through the crowd as they stumbled back instinctively.

A gigantic corpse slammed onto the ground with a dull, heavy thud. Dust rose into the air as the ground groaned under its weight. Before them lay a mutant beast so large that its body was easily the size of a two-story building.

Thick, dark brown skin covered its muscular body. Its claws were like sharpened steel, each one longer than a man’s entire arm. Its head resembled that of a monstrous mole, but twisted and mutated, with thick bony plates covering its snout and glowing, lifeless eyes.

The silence was broken as everyone’s eyes widened in horror and awe.

"My god..." Chen Wei breathed, his voice barely audible. "How big is this thing?"

"It must be above level 10!" Yang Ming whispered. His face turned serious. "No, no... probably level 12... or 13?"

"I have never seen such a giant beast," Mei said softly, her hand covering her mouth.

One by one, the survivors moved closer, forming a cautious circle around the enormous corpse. Some of them slowly reached out, their hands trembling slightly, and touched its rough skin.

"It’s like stone," said Liang Zihan, running his palm along its side. "I can’t even dent it with my full strength."

"Look at those claws," another survivor muttered in awe. "Each one could tear a person into pieces like paper."

"What kind of monster is this, Miss Liora?" asked a survivor, finally breaking the stunned silence.

Liora smiled softly as she spoke, her voice calm and steady. "This is the cause of the earthquake you all felt earlier." This giant mutant mole accidentally wandered into our territory. While digging its tunnel underground, it disturbed the ground above, shaking the entire area."

Everyone exchanged glances, their eyes flickering between the corpse and Liora.

"So... you’re saying the earthquake wasn’t natural?" asked Zhou Yinuo, blinking in disbelief.

Zhou Yinuo and Eli also came when they saw everyone gathering around the Mei’s small clinic.

"Exactly," Liora nodded. "It was not a natural quake. It was caused by this beast’s digging."

"But even so," one of the younger survivors said hesitantly, "can just one creature really cause such a powerful quake?" The whole ground was shaking like it would collapse."

Liora’s smile faded a little as her tone grew serious. "You’re right. If it had only been this one mole digging, the quake wouldn’t have been so violent. The truth is, there were actually two of these creatures."

Everyone’s expressions darkened instantly.

"Two?!" someone gasped.

She nodded. "Yes. They were both digging separate tunnels, but by pure chance, their paths crossed underground. When their tunnels collided, a fight broke out between them deep below the surface."

The survivors shuddered as the image of two gigantic beasts battling beneath their feet formed in their minds.

"A fight between two monsters of this size..." muttered Chen Wei, wiping sweat from his brow, "no wonder the ground shook like that."

"How powerful were they, Miss Liora?" asked another survivor quietly.

Liora paused for a moment, glancing at the massive body before them.

"This one was a level 16 mutant beast," she said.

The moment the number left her lips, everyone stiffened.

"Level... sixteen?" Liang Zihan whispered in shock, his voice nearly cracking.

"Impossible..." Yang Ming’s legs wobbled slightly. "How did you even manage to kill it?"

Liora shook her head softly. "I was able to defeat it because it was already severely injured from its fight with the other mole. Otherwise, even I would not have been able to face it so easily."

The survivors stared at the dead beast once again, but now with even greater fear and respect. They imagined what could have happened if both creatures had surfaced while fighting. The base would have been completely destroyed without them even having a chance to resist.

For a few moments, no one spoke. Only heavy breathing and nervous shuffling broke the silence.

"Miss Liora," one of the older survivors finally asked in a worried voice, "if beasts of this level can appear near us... Are we truly safe here? Is this base still secure?"

Others nodded nervously, their faces pale. The previous calmness they had was now replaced by fear once again.

Liora looked at them gently, her voice warm but firm. "There’s no need to worry. What happened was an accident, a rare clash deep underground. Outside of this incident, everything is still within our prediction and control. No danger will befall this base."

"But... what if more such beasts appear?" Mei asked softly, her eyes filled with concern.

Liora smiled reassuringly. "Even if stronger beasts come, we’ll face them together. This base is growing stronger every day. We have the means, the people, and the preparations to handle whatever comes next."

Her words slowly brought a sense of calm to the nervous crowd.

The survivors exhaled quietly, some nodding in agreement, some still worried, but no longer panicked. Because they believe in Liora. If anyone could protect them, it was Miss Liora. Even the survivors who came previously than them start respecting Liora after her good deed and finding that she is related to the base leader.

"We trust you, Miss Liora," Lin Ci finally said. "As long as you’re here, we believe this base will stand strong."

"Yes," Chen Wei added, his voice firmer now, "we’ll work even harder to keep building this place."

Liora nodded, her gaze sweeping across their determined faces. "Good. Let’s focus on the future. Together, we’ll make this base unshakable."

The mood slowly lightened as everyone turned back toward their work, some still casting glances at the massive corpse but now with a mix of fear and awe rather than panic.
