Chapter 104: A soul realm?
Chapter 104: Chapter 104: A soul realm?
Liora gasped as the flickering, ghost-like thing that had hovered inside the injured insect’s body—shot toward her like a streak of light.
Before she could even scream, it plunged straight into her.
A cold shiver ran down her spine. Her body jolted like she had been touched by lightning. She clutched the edge of the car door, her breathing uneven and her face losing all its luster from the fright.
Her eyes flew open wide. Nothing looked different on the outside, but something inside her had shifted. She could feel it. The soul had entered her.
Did I just... suck in a soul? A bold thought appeared in her mind.
Liora turned her head sharply toward the insect’s body. It was motionless, not twitching, not breathing, and it was truly dead.
And as if to confirm her thoughts, she heard a ding in her mind, a new notification popped up in front of her.
[Successfully Killed Level 1 Mutated Bug]

She stared at the floating text in disbelief. Her lips parted, but no words came out. The system had never given her rewards like this without a physical fight.
"I... I really killed it?" she whispered. But how? Just by taking its soul?
Liora’s fingers trembled slightly as she leaned forward, eyes locking on another insect just ahead. This one was alive and not wounded, just twitching its limbs and flapping its ugly wings on the cracked road.
Her heart pounded as she activated her soul sight again. Her vision blurred for a moment, then sharpened—and there it was. The faint shimmer of a soul inside the insect.
She stared at it and deeply focused. And then, just like before, the soul flickered... and darted toward her.
She stiffened as it pierced into her again. The insect’s body slumped over the ground, its lifeless body lay on the ground without moving.

Liora sat frozen in place. This was real and not a dream. She could really kill them by just sucking their souls.
She could kill without touching them. Without hurting them physically. The body remained untouched, but the soul—the very core of life—was taken by her.
This power... it wasn’t just about seeing souls. It was taking them. Her breath grew shaky. What kind of ability was this?
She closed her eyes, trying to sense the place where the souls had gone. She reached inward, not just into her mind, but deeper.
And suddenly, her consciousness slipped. She found herself standing in an entirely different space.
It wasn’t physical, and yet it was.
It looked like a vast, swirling void. Not dark or empty, but full of soft, floating lights—each one pulsing slowly, as if breathing.
And there were two. Two lights, faint and flickering inside the void. They were the souls of the insects she had taken.
They weren’t screaming or struggling. They just floated there, peacefully... like they were asleep.
Liora took a step forward in the strange space. It didn’t feel like her body was moving. It was more like her mind was flowing through this space that existed within her... yet also not.
"This isn’t my mind," she murmured, voice echoing strangely in the space. "It’s not my body either..." It was something else.
Maybe a space created only to hold souls.
A soul realm?
The thought sent a chill down her arms.
She reached out toward one of the souls, but before her hand could touch it, something invisible pushed her back, gently but firmly. Like a barrier.
She could bring the souls in... but she couldn’t touch them yet. What kind of ability is this...
Still staring at the floating souls, Liora’s thoughts raced. What kind of monster am I turning into?
She slowly pulled herself back to reality, her eyes opening as the sound of battle and insect screeches returned around her.
Chen Wei glanced over, noticing her odd expression. "You okay?"
Liora nodded faintly. "Yeah. Just... figuring out how to get out from this place, unscathed." She said with a small smile. But she was in a huge turmoil. Even if she wanted to calm down, she couldn’t.
Liora stayed seated, her back pressed against the seat of the car, but her eyes slowly swept across the swarm of mutated insects crawling and flying in the distance.
Her fingers tightened slightly around the edge of her seat.
They were everywhere—on the road, on nearby walls, even on abandoned vehicles. Mutated creatures, some the size of cats, others as big as dogs. Their wings buzzed. Their legs clicked and scraped against the asphalt. But she realized that all of them were still weak and not much of a threat, maybe they were just level 1 or still mutating.
As her gaze swept over the massive number of insects, her thoughts raced. Before, she would’ve needed to leap out and slash them down one by one. But now... she looked at them differently. There was no fear in her eyes, only a strange, cold calm.
Liora narrowed her eyes, quietly activating that new sense again.
Immediately, her vision changed. It blurred—then refocused.
And she saw them. Hundreds of faint glowing fires trapped inside each insect. They looked fragile, like glass marbles hanging inside ugly shells.
Her gaze locked onto one, a fat, swollen bug chewing on the tire of a damaged car.
Without moving a muscle, she focused on it. The soul flickered and struggled. Then it ripped free from the body and shot toward her, slicing through the air like a bullet. Then it hit her chest and completely disappeared.
Her body jolted faintly. She was still not accustomed to this sensation of sucking souls, it felt very strange and uncomfortable, but before she could dwell more on it, her mind soon was distracted as the insect collapsed near the tire.
