Chapter 183: The Angels Are Falling

[Everything is under control. I kept my promise to you.]

The person who sent this message to Atlas was none other than Hermes.

Atlas’s mind had completely blanked out. What he had wanted for so long, what he had wondered and thought about even before his death, must have come true. If Hermes had sent such a message, there was no way he could be lying; it must have been completed for sure.

Still... Atlas wanted to be sure. He knew Hermes wouldn’t lie, but he wanted to be certain that what he had been thinking deep down was true, that everything was accurate.

"What do you mean...What are you even talking about, sir?" Atlas asked suddenly.

[I saved Michael. Heaven has been released.]

Atlas’s eyes widened. While Cassandra looked at him with eyes trying to understand what was happening, Atlas was only trying to comprehend what he had read.

His entire body trembled from head to toe; no one could understand the meaning of those words for him. Each of them might have seen his memories. They might have known everything about him, but none of them could understand the meaning of Michael being saved.

"Is the reason for these thunderclaps Michael’s release?" Atlas asked suddenly, his eyes curious but also filled with concern.

[What do you think? There is a massacre taking place within Heaven right now. Literally. The moment Michael stepped outside, he began killing every Archangel other than the ones who tried to save him. The number of angels dying is now close to a billion and continues to rise every second.]

After these words, Atlas took a deep breath and then turned to Cassandra and asked, "Can you strengthen the barrier?"

Cassandra immediately nodded in agreement and vanished in an instant, moving to strengthen the barrier that Juliet had created—a barrier spanning thousands of kilometres, capable of housing millions of people, and covering every settlement, mountain range, and numerous other regions of the city of Shorekeeper.

Atlas opened his inventory at that moment and took out a communication parchment. Using this parchment, he sent a message that appeared in his mind, warning everyone within and around the city to remain calm.

With that, the waiting began.

The thunder continued as if nothing had happened, and the lightning strikes were now becoming visible to the naked eye. They were incredibly bright lights, truly bright. If there had been no barrier, the lightning would have been bright enough to blind everyone in the city or at least render them unable to see anything but light for several days.

The fact that there were so many half-humans in Shorekeeper City, even if it was slightly less than a quarter of the population, made everything worse.

After all, the light was hurting them the most.

After a short while, the lightning stopped and everything came to a standstill. When Cassandra, Juliet, and Irene entered the room where Atlas was, the bedroom made for Atlas and Cassandra, the same question was written on each of their faces:

What was happening? And why was it happening? And mostly, why now, out of all times, was it happening?

"Will you explain what’s going on?" Irene asked with great curiosity.

When Atlas heard the question, he looked at Cassandra and Juliet, then asked, "Do you remember the favour I asked of Hermes?"

The moment he asked that question, both Cassandra and Juliet smiled where they stood. Before Irene could understand what was happening, the question had already come out of Juliet’s mouth:

"Archangel Michael... Is he free?"

With Juliet’s question, Atlas nodded his head up and down and replied without a moment’s hesitation, "Yes. Heaven is free now. The angels will never cause us trouble again."

Irene managed to understand what was happening at that moment and let out a deep breath. It was indeed good news. Especially for Irene, who had learned about her previous life, or rather, her life before time was reversed, everything had suddenly turned out very well.

After all, even though she didn’t seem like it, Irene had been under an incredible amount of stress.

The group of four was smiling happily and even going so far as to hug each other in joy when something else happened that no one had expected.

"RUMBLE!"

Another thunderclap had sounded. Still, no one felt pain or felt the need to cover their ears. But this sound... was much louder than any thunderclap that had come before.

As Atlas and the others walked slowly toward the large balcony, they were met with an unexpected sight.

The thunderclouds had dispersed. The sky, which had begun to darken, now looked crystal clear. Yet there was something odd. There were dozens of flames in the sky, growing larger, moving, and approaching the earth.

Atlas understood what they were with just one glance. Each of the 7 Sages, who had witnessed his memories, could now understand what this event, occurring all over the world, meant from where they were.

Atlas had seen this before. He had seen it when, during the great battles with the angels, they had almost succeeded in driving them from the world, and the rumour of Archangel Gabriel’s surprise attack had emerged.

It was a very sad sight. It symbolised death. It symbolised the end and the extinction of life, but...

Despite all this, it was a beautiful sight. A mesmerising and captivating sight. The bright flames falling from the sky like stars...

"Atlas... What is this?" Cassandra had asked. The Ancient Woman might have seen Atlas’s memories, but like Juliet and Irene beside her, or Cordelia, Talon, Constantine, Cain, and Bellatrix standing in Herria City, Cassandra herself couldn’t help but wonder.

"Yes, Cassandra... It’s happening, my dear," Atlas said suddenly, his eyes wide as he stared at the image in front of him.

His heart was pounding, he was happy, incredibly happy, but there was not a trace of joy on Atlas’s face... Only the thoughts in his mind.

And the way he expressed those thoughts.

"The angels... they are falling out of heaven..."
